++ Perhaps it's been such a long devastatingly crapsack of a year for news coverage that I'm in a "this might as well happen too" headspace, but let me tell you I've been incredibly fascinated with the events that have been happening surrounding the United Healthcare CEO shooting, mainly the public reactions in the aftermath and the reports that follow. It's like a surreal movie plot happening in real time, from the carved bullets to the backpack with Monopoly money, the method of how he got away, and recently NYC held a look-alike contest. Seriously, I haven't witnessed anything like this before. What will come out from this? I don't know. But as of right now as it's still ongoing it's been slightly making up for the depressing political outcome from November, that's for sure. Also yes, it goes without saying that while the act itself is bad, considering how shitty the American healthcare system is and how insurance companies are greedy assholes who deny claims constantly and ruin the lives of so many people who are in dire need of medical help, nobody should be surprised this happened or how the people have been reacting to it.

Between this and the failed coup by the president of South Korea (albeit a more serious situation), it's been one interesting last month of the year for news.

A lot of things happened in such a short period of time during this past week that it sort of feels like a fever dream, but that's just kind of on par with what 2020 is.

++ Biden won the U.S. election. Thank fuck.

++ Apparently, Dean/Castiel was made canon in the third-to-last episode of Supernatural? (Sorta? Kinda?) I stopped watching the show eons ago, so imagine my surprise when I saw this whole thing explode when the episode aired (it was trending on Twitter, there's been tons memes, the fandom side of Tumblr reverted to what is used to look like circa 2012, etc). Yes, when I watched Dean/Castiel was my OTP, so this definitely kind of took me aback, but other than that I don't know how to feel about it. I don't have much of a leg to stand on with what's been going on in context of the show since I don't pay attention anymore aside from things I know through fandom osmosis from people I follow online. Although I will say that this whole thing went viral the moment it happened and I've read some pretty...interesting "hot takes" surrounding it, some that I agree with and others that I don't, but mostly I do want to say the criticism towards the show and its handling of things is absolutely valid and fair since it absolutely deserves it.

++ Johnny Depp has been fired from the Fantastic Beasts movies. Finally. Good riddance.

It's also been reported that the third installment has been delayed until 2022, but they really should just scrap the entire franchise, to be perfectly honest. Nobody really wants these films, especially not after the disastrous second movie. Hell, I was only interested in the first movie because of Colin Farrell, so unless he's coming back (which, while preferable, I highly doubt) this was just something I was never that invested in. And yeah, most of it was because of the JD casting, but everything surrounding these films are just a mess from the start. And quite frankly, with how much of a controversial figure JKR herself has become recently with her openly bigoted views and quickly becoming unfavorable in many people's eyes, unless she relinquishes creative control over it entirely it would be easier and waste less money to just axe the whole thing.

I know many are feeling overwhelmed with everything that's been happening, the feeling of anger and frustration and helplessness and utter disgust in the face of such brutal injustice and racial discrimination, and the frightening reality that those in charge aren't doing anything to stop or protect others but further perpetuate this state of fear and racial injustice towards black lives, but please don't feel discouraged from doing something. Every little thing still counts as an act of protest even if you're not doing so from the streets, from signing petitions to donations to even streaming the video above. Keep sharing any legitimate links you find, and keep talking about it.

BARACK OBAMA HAS BEEN RE-ELECTED AS PRESIDENT

Seriously, this has been one long, tense, highly stressed and anxiety-inducing election and it has left me completely exhausted, but regardless I am just so happy and utterly relieved right now. Not just for the fact that this election is finally over, but also that my President got re-elected for second term. Bless everyone for making this happen. ♥

Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) has finally been ruled constitutional by the Supreme Court

Republicans are now drowning in their own tears. Some of them are now threatening to move to Canada, even though universal healthcare has been part of their system for a long time now, same with the support of gay marriage and other things Republicans actively hate and despise. Other GOP members are thinking about having an "armed rebellion" to overturn the Supreme Court decision. The latter is quite frightening, though not surprising, that these people would resort to violence to actively oppose something so harmless and peaceful and humane as universal healthcare.

Needless to say, not even the tiniest violin is playing for these idiots who lack human decency and compassion.

In any event, I am very happy with this news. It's not a perfect system, but at least it's a step in the right direction. It's something that has been needed for a long time, and it's just sad that it took this long for people to officially say that healthcare insurance is a constitutional right.
