"Oh man, are you cereal?"
Sep. 12th, 2025 02:24 pm++ I don't have Internet/cable for one day and I miss quite a wild day with politics, huh?
++ Although I was aware of it as it was happening, just reading about the kinktober shenanigans that happened a while ago, from the various posts summarizing it to the jokes, not only was I baffled and amused it also got me thinking that this is the kind of fandom nonsense I much prefer reading about. Less exhaustingfandom wank "discourse" and more just pure ridiculousness.
++ It was recently announced that Life Is Strange is getting a television series adaptation. This technically isn't news as fans of the game have long been waiting for it since the initial announcement about a television show being made since 2016, however aside from that there were no further information of anything going forward so most assumed that this was yet another project either silently dropped or in development hell. With Amazon acquiring the rights to produce the show, this makes it more likely to become a reality.
( As someone fond of the first game, I have thoughts on this reality. )

Carry on my....well, you know.
Aug. 29th, 2025 01:19 amThis question I saw on
author_by_night, which I gave my answer there but I wanted to elaborate more here:
What's a fandom that honestly made you quit the fandom and/or the piece of media itself?
Out of all of the fandoms I've been involved in, the only one that has truly made me quit both the media and its fandom was Supernatural. Anyone who was around back then on LJ knew how deep I was with the show during the very early seasons (S1-S6), I was quite invested with not only watching the show but also engaging with the online fandom. I participated in fan discussions, wrote episode reviews immediately after watching an aired episode, wrote metas, did fanmixes, it was also the fandom that I ended up going to my first convention for and met some online friends in real life. Those were some of the upsides to my fandom experience, however the downsides sadly far outweighed all of those positives. There was a lot going on with my frustrations with the direction the show was going during the sixth season along with the aggressively toxic nature of the fandom itself, which unfortunately that negativity regretfully bled into my own attitude and behavior at times upon interacting with the fandom, something that I am honestly ashamed of. It was all becoming too much for me to handle, mentally and emotionally. Stepping away from both the show and the fandom itself turned out to be the best decision for my own sanity. It truly became a hard lesson for me to learn about quitting something that was making me unhappy, that even if I wanted to stay with it for a particular character/actor or even for the online friends I had made along the way, it's just not worth it.
Interestingly, now that the show is over I have just recently been returning back to reblogging things about it on my Tumblr once again. I guess time and distance, and also having a closed canon, was all that was needed, as well as a very different fandom atmosphere then when I had last left it. Less toxic and more introspective, the never-ending memes, etc.

Crossovers.
Jul. 9th, 2025 02:58 amSometimes I wished fandom fucked with crossovers more like it used to. *
Maybe I'm not looking in the right places since I know it stills happens, it's just that I remember when fandom crossovers were a massive thing especially during my early days in fandom. Yeah, fanfic fusion AUs exist, but it's not the same. There would be fanworks of various kinds where alternate universes featuring different fictional worlds would visit each other, either already existed in or created a kind of wormhole or portal to go into each other's world. It didn't need to make sense, it just needed to be like "how would these characters from this story interact with these others from this other story?" and that's that. But I rarely see those kinds of fanworks anymore, at least not in the way that it used to thrive in fandom spaces. I only see aspects of it now among the cdrama fandom. Of course, this is mere speculation on my part, I kinda theorize that the rise and fall of SuperWhoLock sort of got people to shy away from doing crossovers in such a way, because it was viewed as "cringe" since it was everywhere and dominated a lot of the fandomsphere especially on Tumblr. Which would be a shame if that were true. There is something amazing and uniquely fannish about crossovers, whether it be fanfiction, fanart, fanvids, or classic image manips, it's always been interesting to see the kinds of creativity fandom can come up with. You might not always know the fandoms in question, but it's nice to see people having fun.
(* I'm including myself in this as well, since I had once created some crossover fanworks in the past but have also unfortunately fallen off that wagon and need to get back on.)

( Hai Yunfan and Wang Lu. )
My Comments: One of the enjoyable aspects of Once Upon A Time In Lingjian Mountain, a silly and ridiculous cdrama, is the dynamic between Wang Lu and Hai Yunfan, their whole relationship is one built from a sworn brother element but it's played a lot like a bromance with a lot of winks and nudges. It's adorable with a lot of ridiculous moments, as with the comedic nature of the drama itself, but it's also heartfelt as well with the companionship between them. These two fanvids are ones I discovered and liked the presentation of, with the accompanying songs to match the tone and vibe going for this relationship. The second fanvid requires captions to be turned on for the dialogue featured.

Challenge #15: Talk about an unexpected joyous moment you experienced last year.
When I discovered the global girl group, XG.
I talked about this briefly before, but I constantly discover and listen to music artists on the regular and there's a lot out there that I like and tend to become my favorites over time. But sometimes there will be an artist or group that will just automatically speak to me and I will instantly fall in love at first listen. XG became that group for me last year. Their sound, their concept, their style, their dancing (especially the dancing), it's the entire package and I ended up going down the rabbit hole of not just listening to all their music, but also all their music videos, their performances, their behind-the-scenes documentary videos they have. It's funny because I had only vaguely heard of them prior, and somehow, on just a random day, I decided to check out one of their music videos out of mere curiosity and immediately became obsessed with them. It's that dopamine high you get when something just clicks with you at that right moment, you know?

Fanvid Friday: Yellowjackets
Apr. 4th, 2025 04:30 am( I think shit is gonna get a lot worse out here. )
My Comments: Continuing on with my current interest with Yellowjackets, this is a fanvid that I came across that absolutely floored me. Not only does it feature a very haunting song by Paris Paloma, the pacing of the editing matching the music is so mesmerizing. I also liked the way the vidder structured the video by giving the events that happened in the wilderness (at least what was presented in the first two seasons, so spoilers for at least some character deaths) to tell the story of their survival. It's such a wonderfully crafted fanvid.

( Let the darkness set us free. )
My Comments: While I haven't watched Yellowjackets yet, that hasn't stopped me from looking at fanworks from the show including fanvids. This one is dedicated entirely to Lottie Matthews, mainly during the teen timeline of the first season. Lottie is the character that I grew attached to based on what I've been seeing. Her arc is just so fascinating to me and I'm immediately drawn to her, and this fanvid, set to Halsey's "Castle", is beautifully edited to show her journey and transformation in the first season alone.

Fandom Snowflake Challenge: Interaction
Mar. 20th, 2025 04:42 pmChallenge #13: Interact with someone in fandom you haven't talked with before.
I've actually been doing that thanks to
snowflake_challenge, going through the various submitted entries through all of the challenges this year and commenting on them. It's something I hadn't done before in previous Snowflake challenges, including linking my own answers to the prompts to allow people to see my posts and interact with me, as well. As someone who has talked constantly about missing the sense of community in fandom spaces, this was a great opportunity to actually do something about that this year and I'm glad that I have been and will be continuing to do so. I've had some great conversations with other fandom people who I haven't previously talked to, and it makes me yearn for more of that interaction that I hope to keep up from now on, now just with Snowflake but in other places too. :)
Speaking of, I'm also active in
tv_talk, and I like getting able to participate in the weekly discussions and even have done some reccing of shows over there.

Fandom Snowflake Challenge: Fandom Recs
Mar. 17th, 2025 10:03 amChallenge #12: Create a Rec Countdown.
This took a while to figure out how to format and get written out, but I finally did it. This is my own version of a recommendation countdown rather than what was instructed in the challenge, as this is mainly a fanfic rec post with a handful of individual media recs afterwards.
