This question I saw on [personal profile] author_by_night, which I gave my answer there but I wanted to elaborate more here:

What's a fandom that honestly made you quit the fandom and/or the piece of media itself?

Out of all of the fandoms I've been involved in, the only one that has truly made me quit both the media and its fandom was Supernatural. Anyone who was around back then on LJ knew how deep I was with the show during the very early seasons (S1-S6), I was quite invested with not only watching the show but also engaging with the online fandom. I participated in fan discussions, wrote episode reviews immediately after watching an aired episode, wrote metas, did fanmixes, it was also the fandom that I ended up going to my first convention for and met some online friends in real life. Those were some of the upsides to my fandom experience, however the downsides sadly far outweighed all of those positives. There was a lot going on with my frustrations with the direction the show was going during the sixth season along with the aggressively toxic nature of the fandom itself, which unfortunately that negativity regretfully bled into my own attitude and behavior at times upon interacting with the fandom, something that I am honestly ashamed of. It was all becoming too much for me to handle, mentally and emotionally. Stepping away from both the show and the fandom itself turned out to be the best decision for my own sanity. It truly became a hard lesson for me to learn about quitting something that was making me unhappy, that even if I wanted to stay with it for a particular character/actor or even for the online friends I had made along the way, it's just not worth it.

Interestingly, now that the show is over I have just recently been returning back to reblogging things about it on my Tumblr once again. I guess time and distance, and also having a closed canon, was all that was needed, as well as a very different fandom atmosphere then when I had last left it. Less toxic and more introspective, the never-ending memes, etc.

Why is it that whenever a female angel is introduced they have a humanized name as opposed to the other angels we've met?

I've seen arguments claim that it's because the names have biblical meanings, however that doesn't make much sense. Just because a name has biblical meaning doesn't make it celestial in its origin. Angels have unique names unlike our own because they aren't human; they have their own language predating any form of human language, their names should be foreign and strange and something completely otherworldly and ethereal. It's not that hard to research the different kinds of angel names and their origins (of religious and cultural background) to see which one fits the character they want the name to portray. There are literally thousands of names to choose from, most of them androgynous and all of them incredibly beautiful.

I don't know. It's just something that's been bugging me for a while.

And yes, it's apparently the cartoon episode. )

And in case anyone has missed it: new preview for 8.07, includes some new footage, along with some ~intriguing effects on our angel.

SUPERNATURAL )

I have a feeling that I may start watching this season sooner than I anticipated, if this kind of quality keeps up.

Just in case anyone hasn't seen them already.... )

As for the sneak peeks everyone seems to be freaking out about, I'm actually not that worried about it? With all the interviews and general overview of what this season is going to be exploring, I'm mostly neutral and optimistic about where the story direction is heading. Every character is going to be going through something, giving their arcs some individual attention separately from one another and yes, that means some of them will go through the wringer because of it. But I'm positive all will come together by the end of the season regardless. Besides, Carver has already stated a while back that nothing is what it appears to be, which means that what happened in Purgatory, and in turn what happened to Castiel, is going to be the mystery that will be gradually revealed for at least the first half of the season.

Aside from that, I'm also very pleased with the casting of the new group of characters that will be introduced this season, particularly with the new angel. Now that was a pleasant surprise I didn't see coming.

There will be a 10th anniversary Firefly panel at Comic-Con.

With everything else that will be going on, this will no doubt be the biggest event of the entire weekend. Joss and his crew are considered rockstars at this convention, adding in a Firefly panel on top of everything else, I won't be surprised if the room will be completely packed and overflowing with Browncoats and other Whedon fans alike. It makes me sad that I won't be attending, since if there's one thing I would kill for would be to see and meet this man, and the entire Firefly cast, in person. One day, though. One day this wish will come true.

I'm mostly just looking forward to seeing the outcome of this panel, tbh. You know shenanigans are gonna happen, as they always do.

Speaking of which, is anyone actually attending Comic-Con this year?

For anyone going to the Supernatural panel, which will have Jeremy Carver and Ben Edlund, I really want someone to ask them intelligent questions. Like, actual legitimate thought-provoking questions that we need answers to, not to mention certain things that need to be properly addressed regarding the direction and writing on the show and the development of the characters. At other conventions the actors answer the best they can, but this is one of the rare moments when the writers/producers can actually answer such questions directly themselves. It's one of the reasons why I wish I was going because believe me, I have a shitload of questions that I really want to ask that only come up during online discussions and debates, but rarely, if ever, asked or taken seriously at fan conventions. So I find this to be a great opportunity to ask those important questions that we've hardly gotten a serious answer to before. Never mind that I really am interested to hear what Jeremy Carver has to say now that he's the new showrunner.

The representation of demons possessing humans on Supernatural, and why the concept nowadays is incredibly problematic in itself... )

I kinda also want to address the whole "anything that isn't human deserves to be killed" aspect of the show, which is equally problematic. Never mind how the Winchesters, more often than not, tend to play God in deciding who lives or dies, and in deciding who is "more human" or not. Just, ugh. That is another rant for another time though. :/

++ So, capslock aside I have managed to fully understand everything that happened in last night's episode and I still stand by praising Edlund for giving the fans what we've been wanting all this time. Granted the season is still sloppy and a mess and is a huge DNW in general, but there was something worth by mentioning Castiel in the right manner by acknowledging him being a dear friend, and Dean not being Dean because of it such a huge loss. Thank you, Edlund. ♥

++ I am, sadly, not participating in GISHWHES, however I wish everyone who is good luck! :D

++ I did a little friendslist clean-up over the last few days. Nothing major, just communities and journals that haven't updated in over two or three years or those who I haven't communicated with at all/have nothing of common interests anymore. I'm getting a lot of spambots randomly friending me though, that's a little disconcerting. :S In general, LJ hasn't been much of an interactive beacon lately between all the screw-ups the site has been experiencing lately, hence me spending a lot of time on Tumblr. But I'm hoping that gets redeemed though, since I miss talking with you guys.

++ Matt Smith as the Doctor in the Children In Need skit + DOCTOR WHO CHRISTMAS SPECIAL TRAILER!!!

THE DOCTOR + NARNIA-INSPIRED CHRISTMAS SPECIAL? MOFFAT WHAT ABSOLUTE BRILLIANCE HAVE YOU DONE THIS TIME? Also, nice little fanservicey skit considering it's a benefit and the need for bidding on his clothes, lol. Awesometastic. "Bowties are, and always will be, cool!" Yes indeed, Doctor. Indeed they always will. ♥
