++ Richard Armitage appeared at Sundance this past weekend to promote his new film, The Lodge, a horror film that some are claiming is the new Hereditary so that's something, it also seems to have gotten a distributor so that's pretty exciting news. It was also announced that he will star in the upcoming Netflix thriller, The Stranger, which is an adaptation of a novel by Harlan Coben, which I'm deeply intrigued by. I keep saying this whenever something new is announced, but I'm really happy that he's been branching out into different areas and genres. Granted, horror/thriller is my favorite genre so obviously these projects seem right up my alley, but I'm still happy for him nonetheless. He's also been doing incredibly well with audiobooks, too. I'm always on the look out whenever they get announced because who wouldn't want to listen to something narrated by him?

++ Speaking of audiobooks, Colin Farrell has recently narrated one for James Joyce's novel, A Portrait of the Artist of a Young Man. Much like with Richard, I love Colin's voice and especially with how well-spoken and articulate he is in general. It makes sense that he'd do something like doing an audiobook. He's also doing the narration for a three-part VR animated series, Gloomy Eyes.

++ When it comes to newer shows, I've talked about how a lot of times when they are announced it's a huge hit-or-miss, and I haven't been exactly excited about some of the shows that were announced lately. However, sometimes it takes a while before finding something and it usually unexpectedly springs up on you as something worthwhile to check out. Kingdom is a South Korean thriller drama on Netflix that is essentially a zombie horror story set during the 15th century. I had only found out about it a couple of days before the first season premiered (which was on the 25th, and it's already been renewed for a second season, though I kinda figured that it would be based on what I read about its production), and while I haven't watched it yet I'm deeply intrigued by it. Another upcoming show is Siempre Bruja, a Colombian series that is about a young woman who is sentenced to death for being a witch, but she manages to escape her fate by time-traveling to the future. I'm curious simply after watching the trailer, it looks interesting, it reminds me a bit of Sleepy Hollow, like the whole "fish out of water" and adjusting to modern life sort of thing.

And finally, Miss Sherlock, which already was out since last year but I had just watched the first episode recently. It's a Japanese re-imagining of Sherlock Holmes, but with women as both Sherlock and Watson. I'm just so enamored with it already that I can't wait to continue watching the rest of the series.

++ Learning about Eliza Dushku's sexual harassment claim against Michael Weatherly while her time on Bull is absolutely horrific, especially knowing the shit she's been through already from the industry. Not only was what he did reprehensible and disgusting, but the fact that CBS attempted to blacklist Eliza by showing "proof" that she was the more unstable one by sending in a tape of her using profanity. I'm glad it backfired on them, though, since what they had was actually evidence of the harassment itself thereby backing up Eliza's claims. But still, they gave her hush money to make her go away with this, and that is just so gross regardless. I always wondered why Eliza's character didn't come back, since it was originally announced she would become a regular recurring character and where things left off it made it seem like there would've been more down the line. I guess now we know the real reason. I mean, CBS is the home of shows like Criminal Minds and NCIS, where both have repeatedly treated their actresses horribly, not to mention that they previously passed on the opportunity for a Nancy Drew reboot because it would've been "too female". So, this goes to further demonstrate their attitudes regarding women, and it just makes me even more angry with what they did to Eliza.

Also, I haven't been watching Bull for some time now, initially not out of disinterest but because I was catching up on other stuff and it kind of got put to the side. But knowing this, alongside the knowledge I just learned that Annabelle Attanasio, who played Cable, my favorite character on the show, wasn't going to return for its current third season (and the manner of which they wrote her off is just, ugh, no), it has made me less inclined to bother catching up.

++ Doctor Who won't be returning until early 2020, which has received some mixed reactions from the fandom, alongside that there is going to be a New Years special instead of the regular Christmas special this year. I, personally, don't mind either. We're still getting a special so it doesn't matter if it's specifically a Christmas one or not. As for S12 not premiering until 2020, I can understand people's frustrations. But at the same time, we currently live in a binge-watching culture and have kinda gotten used to waiting for certain shows to return. Doctor Who has risen in popularity in recent years, especially here in the States, and the possibility of interest losing momentum probably won't happen. So, while the wait sucks, I am not at all bothered by it.

++ Speaking of the holidays, Richard Armitage has narrated yet another audiobook, The Christmas Hirelings, which is now available on Audible for free! You're welcome. ❤

++ E3 has been happening, and there's been plenty of trailers of upcoming video game releases, some that I'm pretty excited about. First is the brand new Shadow of the Tomb Raider trailer, since Lara Croft is my girl, obviously, and I'm anticipating what this game will bring. I'm also curious about Cyberpunk 2077, which I remember being announced a long time ago but didn't really hear much of anything since then. Anyway, I'm really into the cyberpunk aesthetics, it looks super dope. Next is Resident Evil 2 which is an updated remake of the classic 1998 game, and apparently it seems that many RE fans have been waiting years for. Much like with the recent Resident Evil 7: Biohazard release, this looks completely atmospheric and immersive. And of course, there's The Last Of Us: Part II gameplay reveal! I think many were waiting for this one the most, and this delivered with having almost twelve minutes of gameplay footage with a few minutes of a cinematic scene, beautifully contrasting each other and I'm just so hype for this game you guys, you don't even know. As a sidenote, I love how Naughty Dog is basically giving the middle finger to all the dudebros who complained about Ellie kissing a girl from the TLOU DLC by further confirming in this gameplay trailer that yep, Ellie is a lesbian, get used to it.

++ I watched Ocean's 8 in theaters and it was super fun. The Ocean's movies in general are just pure enjoyable entertainment of lighthearted heisting shenanigans, and this one is no exception. Without giving away any spoilers, I will say that the ladies were amazing to watch, naturally, but I also want to address that Richard Armitage was absolutely delightful in his role, which the part was a bit bigger than I had initially thought. While he doesn't have a whole lot of scenes, he does play a significant character in the story, and he was just so much fun to watch. Good job, boo! Overall, a very fun and entertaining film that I hope continues on with more movies.

(Also, sidenote, the trailer before the movie was for Widows, another movie with a fantastic cast of women + a surprise Colin Farrell, so y'know I was truly blessed in the theater that day.)

++ Wynonna Earp S3 trailer. I was wondering when we were gonna get anything about the third season, since it felt like forever since anything was announced. This was mostly just an intense montage of things that's a lot to unpack, though I'm just marveling over the fact that it looks very highly produced, just from presentation of the trailer alone. The show returns July 20th.

Although, where the fuck are the season DVDs for this show? Seriously, I've ranted about this before, but it's still bothering me that only ones I could find are international BluRays and the BluRay that is through the IDW IndieGoGo site which, well, seems rather shady considering that many have complained about the quality and lack of response from the people involved in producing them. I just want my freaking DVDs to support the show, that's all.

++ Céline Dion has a new song, "Ashes", which is a promotion for Deadpool 2 and the music video itself is absolutely delightful. It is both beautiful (with Celine herself singing) and hilarious (Deadpool dancing around dramatically, plus that ending), and I love how it's kind of a parody of the music videos commonly done for movies back in the 90s and early 00s. Very appropriately done for the sequel for Deadpool, because obviously, why not? lol

++ The official trailer for the second season of Luke Cage looks super dope, I'm here for it.

++ Richard Armitage has given us another short look into him voicing Logan in the Wolverine: The Long Night podcast serial. It's just another little bit of him discussing the character, but I love the footage accompanied with it too since it shows how interactive the recording process was which will no doubt provide much to the performances by the actors, which with every small snippet of these interviews we see bits and pieces of just what the recording sessions were like. Just a reminder that the podcast is available now only exclusively on Stitcher Preminum, and it will be released for a wider release on multiple platforms later this year in November.

++ Bryan Fuller has left The Vampire Chronicles television adaptation.

Honestly, I'm not entirely surprised. While I have no doubt that his vision would've been interesting to see, him being partnered with Anne Rice was rather strange to begin with considering they are total polar opposites of each other when it comes to their views of fandom, fanwork, and transformative works as a whole. Anyone who is aware of Rice's notoriously extensive history will understand how much of a controversial figure she is among fandom in general. So even in a professional work environment it's just not something that I can see working out well in the long run, imho. So I can't really say I'm disappointed that he's no longer attached to this. And I know that some are going to immediately scoff about go, "there he goes again abandoning projects" (which I personally think is a bit unfair since he's only left, like, a few things for different reasons, however since some of it happened very recently in a short amount of time it's unfortunately what he's now known for in some circles), but I definitely think there is more to the story than we know, and a lot probably had to do with the clashing of their personalities and conflict surrounding creative differences over adapting TVC for modern audiences.

I know that Bryan has been attempting to continue with finding a way of getting a fourth season for Hannibal and it's been reported multiple times that he's up for a Pushing Daisies reunion (in the world of constant revivals and reboots these days, it's not entirely improbable for either of these to work given the right opportunity). Although I selfishly still want him to go back to American Gods, like if anything that is something that I'm very bitter and disappointed he's no longer involved with.

++ There is a behind-the-scenes look at Wolverine: The Long Night where Richard Armitage talks about the project and there is footage of what the filming of the audio process was like, which surprisingly was a little more interactive and mobile than you'd think when it comes to podcast productions. I'm fascinated by that, because you allow actors more ways of creating a more convincing performance if they're able to move about, and seeing brief glimpses of Richard basically get really into the moment with the scenes is so great, which makes me excited to listen to this podcast. Also, I feel like this is just one step away from him becoming involved in video games somehow. I don't know why, but I have a feeling, based on his voice work for audiobooks, animation and now a podcast series, doing voice acting and even motion capture for video games would be the next thing he could do to continue doing something new with his career.

++ Agents of SHIELD just recently had their 100th episode, which in celebration the fandom has been created a lot of fanwork to show their love, some of them are fanvideos which I want to share one in particular that made me super happy. It's of Daisy Johnson (my favorite ❤) and her growth since the beginning of the show. It does features spoilers, but it all happens so fast since it is a quick overview of her character story over the course of the series, and it's so well done.

Daisy Johnson, Agent of SHIELD. )

And without giving any spoilers, I have to say that the show continues to be absolutely amazing. They're in their fifth season and it is absolutely solid, so different from the previous seasons and yet still remains true to its core especially regarding the characters and their individual journeys that they've been on from the beginning. I've been enjoying the ride immensely.

++ Speaking of Marvel, with everything surrounding Avengers: Infinity War I find myself just not really caring that much? I think when it comes right down to it, I'm more of a casual watcher of superhero movies than most, meaning that I won't go see every single one in the theater, or at all, unless it actually interests me or it's something I'm genuinely excited to see. Also, the concept of having so many characters in one movie is a bit too overwhelming for me, personally, because even know Marvel has been building this up for a while I also know considering the time constraint on movies in general all of these characters won't get the equal amount of screentime, which bothers me since even movies that have a smaller ensemble can't even utilize that amount screentime for everyone. I don't think it's superhero fatigue, because I love certain movies that have come out recently and I really enjoy particular superhero television shows. I don't know, I'm just not feeling the hype. And perhaps that's the issue, there is a lot of hype surrounding these huge superhero films (both Marvel and DC, respectively) that I find myself not really caring unless it's something I'm really looking forward to seeing, or waiting until all of that hype quiets down before seeing it myself without any other outside influence. Does that make sense?

++ Jessica Jones's second season premieres on March 8th, 2018! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

++ We have a new Deadpool teaser, or, rather at least another marketing for the sequel since there isn't any new footage. Which considering their genius marketing strategy expect more of these kinds of advertisements for the film to come out between now until the movie premieres. This one is dedicated to the fans in Brazil. Also, I do believe that is Morena Baccarin doing the Portuguese voiceover, since she is Brazilian and speaks it fluently as evident in various interviews. Plus I recognized her voice. Plus it makes sense, she's in the films, so why wouldn't she contribute to the marketing in some form or another.

++ Richard Armitage has been quite busy lately himself, with some exciting upcoming projects. Berlin Station has been renewed for a third season, he is recording the audiobook for The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris (which judging by the author's reaction she is quite pleased with him recording for her book), and it's also been announced that he is cast as Wolverine in the new scripted podcast that Marvel is developing. I find this utterly fascinating because I've been hearing people say that Richard and Hugh Jackman kinda look alike, so even though it's only audio this makes me chuckle a bit, but I'm also intrigued and interested with what he'll be doing with the character. Let's not forget that the second season of Castlevania will be out next year, along with him making an appearance in Ocean's Eight. And along with all of this, I'm just very happy for him. He's been doing very well in recent years, not that he wasn't doing well before, but he's been getting a lot of work and being a fan of Richard ever since The Hobbit I'm just very happy and proud that he is continually getting work and doing what he loves and enjoys.

++ Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors is going to be an animated film exploring more of the Marvel characters teaming up with each other, most of them are, indeed, women characters. Chloe Bennet is reprising her role as Daisy Johnson in this, which I think is fantastic. Ming-Na Wen is also cast in this, plus the rest of the cast looks amazing as well.

++ So, I vaguely watched Sabrina the Teenage Witch when it was on during my teen years (though it made enough impression on me that I dressed up as her for Halloween during junior high), but I wasn't aware that her character was part of the Archie Comics. This revelation, of course, was brought on when the news that Netflix has ordered two seasons for adapting their own Sabrina the Teenage Witch series, based off of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comics. Originally meant to be adapted for CW as a companion to Riverdale, the move to Netflix is actually much better because this gives more room and freedom to go into darker territory as the comics imply. Now I haven't read the comics, but it has gotten me very curious of what to expect.

++ Apparently FX is going to be adapting Welcome To Night Vale into a television show. I...don't know what to make of this news, to be honest. One of the best parts with the podcast was allowing the audience to use their imaginations, which the creators have reiterated time and again was the major point of not making confirming any kind of physical appearances of characters, especially Cecil, and it's what kept the fandom thriving with the many discussions, fanart, fanfiction, cosplays, etc. I fear that having it become a television show would lose the magic of what the podcast created, not just with such a vast and expansive world but also the diversity of the characters, especially the LGBT aspect which has been an incredibly important part of the podcast. I would only accept this if the creators behind the podcast had complete creative control without any kind of meddling from network executives. Otherwise, my stance remains rather on the fence about this whole thing. It's not that I don't think it's impossible to adapt it on a visual format and I'm not trying to be negative especially if they're willing to experiment and branch out to other mediums, but for something as innovative and unique as WTNV in matters of storytelling, characters and world-building, it has to be done just right without fucking it up. On the other hand, perhaps I'm looking at this at the wrong angle. Perhaps it won't be a direct adaptation but rather just adapting the existence of that world, where Cecil isn't shown but is more of a disembodied voice over the radio and the show will be more about individual citizens living in Night Vale and the regularly bizarre occurrences that happen there. That I can see being more workable. Overall, it's like with the whole Lord of the Rings television series situation, the possibilities are endless but it needs to be the right fit and done by those who understand the source material at its core.

However, I will say this has got me to thinking about how this little podcast that started many years ago, rose in popularity due to it being circulated about on Tumblr, and how it has just expanded beyond anything the audience and the creators could have ever imagined, including doing live shows of the podcast, publishing books, and now a television show in development. WTNV has become quite a cult phenomenon in its own right and, while I still have to catch up on episodes myself, I'm actually pretty proud to have been there since the beginning.

Tell it to your floating vampire Jesus, here. )

I definitely recommend Castlevania even if you aren't one normally to watch anime series. The first season is only four episodes, each one about 25 minutes long so it's a quick watch for anyone interested. These four episodes altogether serve as kind of a pilot in a way, basically an introduction to the characters and setup of the story, which was a smart move to make since it was about testing the waters whether people were interested in something like this, and considering the praise the series has been getting, they are now able to continue. The show has already been renewed for a second season (and will feature eight episodes) which will premiere in 2018, and Richard Armitage posted on his Instagram that he was back in the studio recording for it. So I'm really excited for what comes next.

++ Castlevania is a new series coming to Netflix on July 7th, based off of the video game series of the same name. Not only does this series have Richard Armitage voicing one of the characters (as heard briefly in the teaser), but fellow Hobbit co-star Graham McTavish, Timothy Omundson (Psych and Galavant), and James Callis (Gaius Baltar from Battlestar Galactica) will also be voices in this, as well. I was unaware of this until recently, and was caught entirely by surprise. I'm not familiar with the games or the story, but I'm curious nonetheless.

++ My summer shows are coming back! Tonight Stitchers is returning for its third season premiere. I just saw the promos for it and honestly, I just can't wait to see what this season unfolds. I'm hoping there are some answers in store and that the season doesn't end on a cliffhanger. Wynonna Earp and Dark Matter return this Friday, and Orphan Black's final season is set to premiere on Saturday. I'm just so happy and excited that my shows are back. I haven't really been doing episode reviews so much these days, not like I used to anyway, and that's because I tend to binge-watch more than do one episode at a time especially when I'm catching up on shows I'm currently watching (because I have so many, lol). I'll probably do reaction reviews if I'm so inclined, or if there is something I want to discuss regarding what may be currently happening on a particular show. But I think since my viewing of shows have changed over the years it's easier for me to do season overviews than simply a single episode review, or if the season isn't done then through a number of episodes rather than one at a time.

++ I was absolutely thrilled with the SAG awards turnout, most importantly because of all the amazing speeches that occurred. I especially enjoyed David Harbour who accepted the award for Stranger Things (yay, it finally won an award!) along with the rest of the cast, but his speech went above and beyond and it was precisely what everyone needed towards the end of the award show. And just like with everyone else who also gave such brilliant speeches, from Mahershala Ali's acceptance speech to Julia Louis Dreyus's wonderful heartfelt statement, it was passionate and powerful and a great way to showcase the good use of such a platform to speak out about such important issues that are affecting everybody right now.

++ Richard Armitage has been filming in NYC for Ocean's Eight, and just judging from the filming pics alone I'm pretty curious about what character he'll be playing. Also, him and dogs! ♥

++ Very recently I've gotten into Critical Role, a livestreaming webseries on Geek & Sundry's Twitch channel where a group of voice actors play Dungeons & Dragons. It was purely by accident because I was searching for Ashley Johnson things, and I wound up watching clips and saw gifsets and suddenly I became rather drawn to it. Of course, I haven't watched full episodes yet since each episode is about several hours long, so I mainly only catch up on the highlights or the funniest moments of each episode, and I have to say it's so fascinating and everyone is absolutely hilarious. While I adore Pike (Ashley Johnson's character) and her friendship with Grog, I have become quite fond of the other characters as well. I know that Ashley has been absent for some amount of episodes here and there because she has been filming Blindspot, to which they somehow managed to make references to D&D/Critical Role (and in turn they also make reference to Blindspot whenever they get the chance).
rogueslayer452: (Default)
++ Richard Armitage has been cast in Ocean's Eight, and that caught me completely off guard, but was certainly a pleasant surprise, that's for sure. His role has yet to be revealed, but this is really exciting news because it means he'll be getting more exposure which I'm all for. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

++ [livejournal.com profile] find_beasts is a community for fans of the Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them film franchise. I know that fannish communities have become rather obsolete on this site, but having just some with a few active members is better than none, I suppose.

++ I've been wondering, since the universe is expanding, is it possible that Fantastic Beasts will be added onto the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme parks at some point? Obviously it'll have to be done after all the films are released, considering the landmarks of where Newt will be traveling to. But it does make me curious, since the theme park was created as something that was connected to the films along with the books as a visual and interactive medium, and now we have an entirely new film franchise within the universe. Would it be possible for it to be an addition to the already existing parks or would there have to be something entirely separate? I know a lot of it depends on how popular the franchise will become along with how much in demand it'll be for it to be considered an additional part of the park itself. This is just me thinking out loud, is all, and an excuse for me to say that I really, really want to visit inside of MACUSA.
