++ A combination of Dick Cheney dying, Zohran Mamdani winning the NYC mayoral election and the Dem sweep, I'd say November 4th was quite a successful day politically. Obviously we're still fucked in the current grand scheme of things, but at least this didn't feel me with overwhelming dread and is a step in the right direction.

++ Jon Stewart announced that he's extending hosting The Daily Show into 2026, and Stephen Colbert teases the comeback of his Colbert Report character. Yes, it does feel like we're back with early 00s politics, but their commentary through jokes and satire were what made most of us back then sane.

++ In unsurprising news: Disney ends its partnership with Doctor Who, the show will still continue with the BBC. This isn't shocking, we all saw this coming a mile away, it just took too damn long for the announcement to happen when it shouldn't have. It was inevitable considering the many delays, so much so that the main actor himself, Ncuti Gatwa, asked to leave the show while a lot of things were still in limbo. With that being said, in the end this whole arrangement was quite a blunder and was just a waste of time, resources, and questionable creative decisions right from the jump.

Now that this has been confirmed, after the planned Christmas special for next year I do think the show needs a break. Not an exceedingly long one as suggested by others, but long enough of a pause to regroup and figure out where they want to go with the show itself.

++ Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are in talks for returning in a new The Mummy movie. The Mummy and The Mummy Returns were both such good movies, easily the most fun action/adventure kind of story with an excellent cast with good chemistry. On one hand I'm stoked to have both Fraser and Weisz returning, however I'm also apprehensive because, these days, the way current media is aside, revived franchises aren't always going to do well. It has to feature the elements which made the original work so well in order for it to flourish, and sometimes the magic just cannot be recaptured even with the best attempts (see: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the third movie of which we don't speak of, and The Scorpion King, a pretty decent movie imho but didn't really hold up to what made the original two stand-out). With that being said I'm willing to give it a try should this go forward, because I adore Brendan and Rachel's chemistry since they made Rick and Evie's whole relationship work so beautifully, and I'm happy that there's a Brendan Fraser renaissance in recent years and I think many fans of The Mummy movies will appreciate seeing him and Rachel back in the roles.

I never understood the Disney Doctor Who thing...I'm glad it's done.

I love Brendan Fraser, so while I agree there is a chance it won't hold up, Imma see it anyways!!

It was great to see a strong turnout on election day and so many Dems winning across the country and I'm hoping the energy will keep up! I was happy in California that Prop 50 passed. It is a shame it's necessary but I'm glad that people realized we needed to fight back. :)

... The Mummy and The Mummy Returns...
Both were amazing movies!! I loved them and watched them so, so often. The third one was bad, really bad. And it didn't have the same chemistry like the two ones before.
I mean, I am happy for Brendan and Rachel but at the same time I fear that Hollywood will screw up that movie so, so badly.

We did so good with the elections!! I'm very proud of my state for showing up.

I'm relieved that Disney is stepping off the Doctor Who train. I feel so bad for Ncuti Gatwa though. He really got screwed with all the corporate nonsense his series had to deal with, and I'm worried fans will blame him for that somehow (if they haven't already).

I really need to catch up though--I haven't seen those episodes yet.

Ugh.

People know that the actors have NO bearing whatsoever on whether the show continues, right? It's mostly corporate overlords and producers and other people who control where the money goes? I mean, we all have favorites, but good lord. I remember seeing a lot of similar buzz during Jodie Whittaker's run, and I loved her run.

November 4th felt like a bit of a hopeful day. I agree it doesn't fix everything but I'll take bits of hope where I can.

I do wonder if the Mamdani win played into the Dems caving less than a week later. The corporate overlords might have been getting nervous with how the public is shifting.

Disney really dragged their heels on that. Like just let go if you're letting go network! I'm sad we had such a short run with Ncuti Gatwa as he was such a great Doctor. I really like the energy he brought to the character.

I hope The Mummy turns out good - the world needs as many good things as possible.
