++ I was absolutely thrilled with the SAG awards turnout, most importantly because of all the amazing speeches that occurred. I especially enjoyed David Harbour who accepted the award for Stranger Things (yay, it finally won an award!) along with the rest of the cast, but his speech went above and beyond and it was precisely what everyone needed towards the end of the award show. And just like with everyone else who also gave such brilliant speeches, from Mahershala Ali's acceptance speech to Julia Louis Dreyus's wonderful heartfelt statement, it was passionate and powerful and a great way to showcase the good use of such a platform to speak out about such important issues that are affecting everybody right now.

++ Richard Armitage has been filming in NYC for Ocean's Eight, and just judging from the filming pics alone I'm pretty curious about what character he'll be playing. Also, him and dogs! ♥

++ Very recently I've gotten into Critical Role, a livestreaming webseries on Geek & Sundry's Twitch channel where a group of voice actors play Dungeons & Dragons. It was purely by accident because I was searching for Ashley Johnson things, and I wound up watching clips and saw gifsets and suddenly I became rather drawn to it. Of course, I haven't watched full episodes yet since each episode is about several hours long, so I mainly only catch up on the highlights or the funniest moments of each episode, and I have to say it's so fascinating and everyone is absolutely hilarious. While I adore Pike (Ashley Johnson's character) and her friendship with Grog, I have become quite fond of the other characters as well. I know that Ashley has been absent for some amount of episodes here and there because she has been filming Blindspot, to which they somehow managed to make references to D&D/Critical Role (and in turn they also make reference to Blindspot whenever they get the chance).

It's honestly really great. It's something that you wouldn't think would be entertaining, watching people sit around playing D&D on a livestream, but because these are actors who create entire scenarios and do character voices and just have a genuinely good time with each other hours an episode, you get hooked quickly. It is funny, emotional, and just an all-around good time. :)

It's really amazing to see. I was impressed with seeing some actors/celebrities at the Women's March and other protests, and them speaking out so passionately at award shows has been phenomenal. I hope they never stop, and that more come and speak out about these issues (and not for media praise or when it benefits only them, but because it is the right thing to do to stand up and publicly defend human rights).

Critical Role is really great! It's a bunch of actor/voice actors being adorkable while playing D&D. And unlike what you normally see in mainstream media regarding RPG games like D&D, they genuinely are having a blast and love the story and the characters they're playing, get to hang out with each other and just be huge gigantic geeks/nerds about, and while engaged with the story they don't take things that seriously and joke around a lot (like, a lot). This is just something they're passionate about and have played together for years before livestreaming it into a webseries, so you really see the strong friendships they have with each other. It's just great fun all around.

And being someone who has never played D&D before, it makes me rather interested with how they go about playing. They just make it look so fun.

They're not really recasting the characters, though. Ocean's Eight is a spin-off where Danny Ocean's estranged sister attempts at a heist of her own. So it's not replacing anyone, it's just another part of that universe.

Yeah. I get that people are going to say 'oh no, you shouldn't use award speeches as a personal soapbox' but when you're playing a role in a media form that directly ties into the social issues at hand? Kind of seems like an offense to not direct it to the matter at hand.

Exactly. One of the things that bothers me is when people complain when actors/celebrities speak out on these particular issues, usually with a, "you're just actors, stop talking politics", as if what is happening in the political world doesn't also affect them, as well. When you have a huge platform such as this it is rather insensitive to not use your voice and speak on such important matters. Also, this isn't something so obscure that it seems out of place to mention in speeches, what is happening now is about human rights and that is definitely something worth mentioning in speeches and on social media and being an activist about.

Right- I think it's a problem with how we view media in general? If we accept that most media forms exist for reasons other than pure entertainment, and that we're creating material for reasons as to reflect who we are as a society, then the people making them would of course be the first and foremost ones to get up and say something about what's going on.

I didn't watch the full awards show (I rarely watch the full shows anymore, except waiting on Leo's Oscar), but I did find Harbour's speech online. It was amazing.

I'm the same way, I hardly ever watch award shows when they're actually happening anymore. If I care that much I'll see the highlights afterwards, but otherwise I tend to just wait until the results of who won online. But when amazing speeches occur such as the ones that have been happening I'll find them and watch them.

A bit late but I absolutely love David Harbour's speech!!!!!! He told it like it is in the tenacity that we all NEEDED. Winona obviously had too much to drink (or take) that night because sis went on a fucking journey lol. The crowd's response was great as well. I am so glad he used his privilege and platform to send a message out there. So glad they won, precious babies. And Mahershala's speech made me cry. It was obvious how much he held back his tears but he drove the point down in the most beautiful way ♥

Any way of having more Richard Armitage in my life is more than welcome, thanks.

I loved how unintentionally hilarious Winona's reactions were, and how she has become kind of a meme in that way, lol. But that should no way take away from the importance of David's speech and how powerful it was. We need more actors and celebrities to use their platform in this manner, to take a stand on these matters.
