++ The Olympics and SDCC have both started this weekend. Should be interesting to see what comes from both.

++ 2NE1 is returning for a global world tour!!! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ I was legitimately shocked when I saw this announcement, like truly an unexpected yet pleasant surprise. The last we saw them together was a small reunion at Coachella in 2022, and I guess it's been kind of in the works for them to reunite properly since then, which makes sense. I'm still side-eying YG Entertainment for screwing them over the way they did, though. Regardless, this is just awesome news. It might not be a proper comeback as with most kpop groups/artists, but they're reuniting for a tour that will go from October well into 2025, so I'm not complaining. Now I'm waiting for the same thing with 4Minute and Wonder Girls....

++ SAG-AFTRA is going on strike again, this time from those members who work on video games to protect themselves from AI. This sadly seems that this is going to be an ongoing battle within the entertainment industry, that even though last year's strike was historic in many ways AI has unfortunately become the biggest hurdle since I constantly see this being an issue. So yeah, as much as it sucks, good luck to them.

I tend to get all this information as it's coming out, though idk why but it seemed like there wasn't as much happening this year at SDCC? Or at least not much that interested me, personally, since there was a lot of announcements that occurred but it wasn't something that I was that into or didn't care for. But there were things that I was anticipating to come out from the event, and while I may be missing some things, here are the main ones that I'm excited about:

++ We finally have the much awaited official teaser for the fourth season of The Expanse, which will be premiering December 13th on Amazon Prime. I'm excited, for the fact that the show is returning on a new home and will hopefully remain there for a good long while, and also just to see the story unfold and continue on. This show is just so amazing and awesome, some of the best scifi I've seen in a long time, and I cannot wait to see what happens next. For anyone who is curious about the show, the first three seasons are available on Amazon so you can get caught up before the fourth season premieres.

++ There was a sneak peek trailer for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, which includes a little bit of behind-the-scenes of what they did to make it which absolutely looks stunning. I mentioned this before, but I like how there is this equilibrium of using practical effects and special effects, and actually getting to see that here is remarkable. Seeing the puppetry, the built sets, and seeing how they incorporated the special effects to scenes that enhances the experience, it works so well because it's a combination of things that are needed. Everything I've been seeing in regards to Age of Resistance has me very impressed, from how it looks to how it'll be expanding the universe and world, and I'm really hoping that it delivers.

++ As for the MCU, I don't really have much to say about the Phase Four of films coming out. I've never been huge on the MCU anyway, so. I will say, though, that the only film that looks remotely interesting to me is Shang-Chi, because having an Asian-led MCU film, one of the first Asian-led superhero movie? With an Asian-American director and writer? Yes please. Also, hearing how Simu Liu basically championed for more racial diversity in the MCU, especially in regards to Asian-American representation, and that somehow got him the role makes it even better. So yeah, that's basically the only thing I am looking forward to, to be honest.

++ The trailer for the third season of Dear White People was released, which I was wondering when we were going to get it. I'm hoping that it doesn't end up getting cancelled (since that's what Netflix does a lot now after three seasons), or that the show has a nice conclusion regardless.

++ Doom Patrol was renewed for a second season! I was so happy hearing this news, since after the unfortunate circumstances surrounding Swamp Thing and hearing certain things about how DC/Warner Bros were handling things I thought that it wasn't going to get another season. The show has gotten a lot of positive reviews and reactions from people, it is considered one of the better DC shows because it is so different, so unique and fresh, which based on what I've seen it is absolutely true, so seeing it renewed makes me happy to see it continue to thrive.

++ While not revealed at SDCC necessarily, finding out that Katee Sackhoff is going to be in another science fiction series called Another Life on Netflix has me incredibly intrigued. I would've checked this out simply for her alone, but based on the trailer it actually looks quite interesting.

++ And lastly, of course I have to mention Critical Role. Some of the cast appeared to do a live reading for The Adventure Zone comics with the McElroys and Lin Manuel Miranda. I know many, including the cast, want to have these people guest on their show at some point in any capacity. I mean, Matt already has had quite a few amazing people guest, including doing a one-on-one session with Stephen Colbert. So this might be a possibility, whether a guest in the second campaign or doing voices for their animated series. The cast was also there for their Talks Machina panel, and also to promote the upcoming next issue of the Vox Machina: Origins comics.

Was there anything at SDCC this year that was announced or happened that made you excited?

Since I mentioned this previously, here are the women-centric panels from SDCC:

A Conversation with Badass Women @ Nerd HQ

Women Who Kick Ass Panel

Both of them feature fantastic ladies, all which have amazing things to say, and both are worth watching. I know that the Women Who Kick Ass panel happens almost every year at SDCC, although last year it wasn't filmed and only a few clips managed to get online, but I think Nerd HQ should have theirs be annual as well. I like hearing the answers to questions and comments the guests give regarding their personal experiences in the industry, and I think with more panels like these we can shed light to these particular issues that otherwise wouldn't be addressed elsewhere.

Also, along the same lines, I want to recommend everyone to watch Evangeline Lilly's Nerd HQ panel because she is absolutely charming. Not only does she go into certain things, including the tropes of strong female characters and why she played Tauriel the way she did in The Hobbit films, but she's incredibly eloquent and intelligent and I have a new found respect for her as a person and with the work she does, both with her acting and her writing. I highly encourage people to watch her speak, because she is quite articulate and funny and just, yeah. All these panels really have really given me a better appreciation for all these wonderful women, and I think it's important to allow such discussion and conversation to occur and I'm happy that there's at least a space for them to have that.

And of course, I have to mention the Joss Whedon (or rather, Nathan Fillion With Friends) and the Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton Nerd HQ panels. I don't think Comic Con would be the same without having at least a few of these people featured, tbh. ♥

++ There was The Hobbit panel, which not only was hosted by Stephen Colbert in his Laketown costume, but also showed bloopers for both The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings films and they actually did show the trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. It just hasn't been released online for the rest of us, yet, and probably won't be until later this week or next week. That's the privilege of going to SDCC, I guess, and judging from the descriptions of the trailer itself from various sources, I'm both anticipating and dreading it because it will bring all the emotions. Also, I'm sad that Richard wasn't able to attend this year. He's busy performing in The Crucible, so it's understandable, especially given how physically and emotionally exhausted he must be after each show he does nearly every day of the week. But still, being that they didn't attend last year due to pick-ups overlapping, this will be the last Hobbit/Middle-earth panel at Comic-Con, so it's kind of sad that he didn't attend with the rest of the cast.

++ Some underwhelming news that amongst the new casting (and re-casting) for the new season of Game of Thrones, yet another important character isn't featured and is rumored to have been cut entirely from the show. I was looking forward to seeing Arianne Martell, but honestly I shouldn't be surprised at this point that they've done this. It's just disappointing that the show has this habit of not just killing characters that don't die in the books, but also cutting out characters who may play an important part of the story and plot later on, among the many other problems with altering the story. GRRM actually mentions this during the panel, throwing some marvelous shade at D&D/HBO. I'm wondering if his decision to not write an episode next season is partly because he wants to distance himself from the show. I wouldn't blame him if that were the case.

++ First look at Wonder Woman for Batman vs. Superman. Honestly, my ideal Wonder Woman is between Gina Torres, Bridget Regan, and Morena Baccarin, and I wish she'd actually have her own damn movie already, but the outfit? I dig.

++ I haven't seen one yet, but I'm hoping someone out there has a video of the entire Women Who Kick Ass panel and not have it be nonexistent like last year. I like hearing what these women have to say, especially when it consists of calling out some of the double standards and sexism within the industry, and hearing their stories of the struggle they deal with on a daily basis. And the lineup this year looked great, although I wished Sophie Turner would have joined in too. Sansa Stark might not wield a sword, but dammit she deserves to be recognized as a badass as well.

There will be a 10th anniversary Firefly panel at Comic-Con.

With everything else that will be going on, this will no doubt be the biggest event of the entire weekend. Joss and his crew are considered rockstars at this convention, adding in a Firefly panel on top of everything else, I won't be surprised if the room will be completely packed and overflowing with Browncoats and other Whedon fans alike. It makes me sad that I won't be attending, since if there's one thing I would kill for would be to see and meet this man, and the entire Firefly cast, in person. One day, though. One day this wish will come true.

I'm mostly just looking forward to seeing the outcome of this panel, tbh. You know shenanigans are gonna happen, as they always do.

Speaking of which, is anyone actually attending Comic-Con this year?

For anyone going to the Supernatural panel, which will have Jeremy Carver and Ben Edlund, I really want someone to ask them intelligent questions. Like, actual legitimate thought-provoking questions that we need answers to, not to mention certain things that need to be properly addressed regarding the direction and writing on the show and the development of the characters. At other conventions the actors answer the best they can, but this is one of the rare moments when the writers/producers can actually answer such questions directly themselves. It's one of the reasons why I wish I was going because believe me, I have a shitload of questions that I really want to ask that only come up during online discussions and debates, but rarely, if ever, asked or taken seriously at fan conventions. So I find this to be a great opportunity to ask those important questions that we've hardly gotten a serious answer to before. Never mind that I really am interested to hear what Jeremy Carver has to say now that he's the new showrunner.

Caprica S1.5 full-length preview as shown from Comic Con. (Spoilers ahoy)

And this is me squeeing about the mild spoilers from said preview )

Seriously, more people should watch this show. The final half of the first season is going to be pretty frakking epic, without a doubt. Which in turn, will make the entire first season incredibly fantastic and quite a ride, and that's why I think this almost-year-long mid-season hiatus is just bullshit. But that's what SciFi does, unfortunately. Also, I think more BSG fans should migrate to watch Caprica, I'm surprised many aren't jumping on the bandwagon. I'm also surprised that the BSG fandom seems to be rather...quiet these days, not as active, or perhaps that's just my observation, idk.

James Callis is too cute in this interview, I can't even. ♥ He mainly discusses his role on Eureka, it's not spoilery unless you don't know the general information about the character he's playing. But he's just too adorable, so animated and giddy in this he actually made me smile with his smiley face, d'aww.

I think aside from Misha, I honestly want to meet James Callis in person and have a long conversation with him about anything, because he's just a very fluent and intellectual kind of guy that really has so many fascinating things to talk about. He thinks about the roles he plays, he analyzes what he needs to do in understanding a scene, which we've heard about constantly from Battlestar Galactica and his preparation for something with his character, he does the same with his role on Eureka and I really just would love to listen to him speak about that. Or anything from philosophy to what he ate for breakfast that morning. Love him, sfm. ♥

A VERY POTTER SEQUEL! It is amazing, it is hilarious, just like the first one. Still lawling.

I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it, but I will say two things: Lucius Malfoy is as flamboyant as David Bowie in Labyrinth, and Lauren Lopez's Draco is still totally awesome and adorable. ♥

Catching up on all the incoming reports from what's happening at SDCC. There's much I'm sure will be flooding in over the course of the weekend, however the biggest points so far is Joss Whedon confirming to direct The Avengers (!!!) and the nerd counter-protesters of the WBC picketing signs. I knew that would happen, so seeing all these incredibly creative signs is just made of absolute win, in my opinion. You don't go messing with the nerds all up on their turf, m'kay? That's a recipe for disastuh, in the form of lulz, of course. ;p For the former, I hope this is a done-deal and nothing like with what happened with the Wonder Woman situation. Anyway, I'm gradually making my way through things being posted about the events, but I'm hoping all that are attending SDCC are having a wonderful and fun time! One of these days I just might attend a Comic Con event, just to experience the overwhelming energy.

The latest episode of Warehouse 13 was very enjoyable, then again everything about that show is enjoyable. Plus there was an appearance of Mark Sheppard, which I never have a problem with. Such a delightful, delicious man to watch on my screen. I hope he returns again, I need more of his awesome on my shows more often. I SWEAR TO GOD IF HE ATTENDS CHICAGO CON THIS YEAR (OR LA CON NEXT YEAR) I THINK I MIGHT PASS OUT. SRSLY.

Day 27 - Best pilot episode

Teenage cyborg protectors, the human race on the run from their machine creations, those just trying to get by out in the black, and a post-apocalyptic future where electromagnetic pulses aren't really caused by the Stonehenge... )

Masterlist of days here.

Um, so apparently Joss Whedon and J.J. Abrams are going to be sharing a panel together at Comic Con? This is what happens when fandom S'PLODES WITH FANGASMS. This, I think, is going to be the most explosive panel. I have to look through what the other guests are for all the other days but, seriously, who can't wait to see what comes from this panel with them? :D Oh, and it seems that Fred Phelps and his craycray religious followers are going to be protesting at Comic Con this year because of us heathens "idolizing comic book characters" instead of God. The shenanigans from this is gonna be gold!

Also, Nathan Fillion tweeted this with the cryptic message: "together again." WHAT DOES THIS MEAN YOU GUYS?! OH NATHAN YOU BIG TEASE.

AVOIDING ALL SPOILERS FROM COMIC CON! AVOIDING ALL SPOILERS FROM COMIC CON!

Well, most of them anyway. I've been doing my best of avoiding accidentally being spoiled regarding certain shows, Supernatural and Dollhouse respectively, from all the Comic Con reports being written. It's difficult because there are so many temptations about reading something and hearing what others have to say about them, but I'm staying strong and refusing despite the irresistible temptation to look. Thankfully nothing's been spoiled to me because I have a very considerate friends list (ilu guys, seriously). I've only caught just the non-spoilery reports on how the actors have been at the panels and the funny stories that ensue, and did everyone else see the video David Boreanaz sent in apologizing for not being about to attend? So adorable.

And how can anyone forget the JOHN BARROWMAN/DAVID TENNANT KISS?! Come on now. ♥

However, I did catch up one what Kring has to say about Heroes next season despite not being interested in the show anymore: and here is what I think of them in a tl;dr mini-rant )

I may seem a bit bitter but after what they've done to the show I don't think my feelings are going to change unless, by some miracle, the show proves me wrong that it actually can be decent enough to be redeemed in my eyes. But I don't think it will to be honest, and I have a strong feeling this will probably be the last season as far as Heroes is concerned. I'm just saying, and quite frankly I think it would be better if it did end after this season.

So, um, yeah. Staying away from Comic Con news is close to impossible particularly since it's everywhere on LJ, I mean even if you didn't attend how can you not miss it? Besides spoilers that is, which I AM STILL AVOIDING FOR MY MAIN FANDOMS AND EXPECT ALL THE CONSIDERATION TO CONTINUE FOR SPOILERFREE PPL LIKE ME, KTHX! Otherwise, if there are edited/despoiled reports out there bring them on bbs!

++ I'm listening to the BSG S4 soundtrack right now and, um, I may or may not be silently weeping at particular tracks. Everything is so poignant and powerful, with each track having the same amount of emotional impact as though you're reliving the scenes all over again, is precisely why Bear McCreary is a composing mastermind. He really has enjoyed working on the music of BSG, you can tell by just how much passion he places in many of the pieces. Even with the hauntingly beautiful opening track, "Gaeta's Lament" (that everyone should listen to, I am not kidding) which has Alessandro Juliani singing, just sets the tone of the angst and the depression and bittersweet atmosphere of the season/series perfectly. Especially when it becomes a dramatic crescendo towards the end, pulling at your heartstrings. Personally, aside from the many things I loved about the show, the music is the most memorable to me and really completes the entire series.

++ Despite the fact that the BSG actors were not nominated for any nominations whatsoever, the worst and coldest snub ever, Edwards James Olmos has guaranteed possible more telemovies in the future. All I'm gonna say is DON'T BE MESSING WITH US EDDIE! THIS IS MAKING ME SQUEEFUL JUST HAVING THE GUARANTEE COMMENT FROM YOU! :D

++ Does anyone remember that MTV series Fear? I've been watching some episodes on YouTube, and it's funny because there are times when you totally tell it's completely scripted and fake. It was supposed to have just five random contestants proving a certain location is haunted, but it was more scare tactics instead of being investigators like Ghost Hunters. It was more like having a dare contest to see if you can survive the night inside a spooky house in order to win five thousand dollars, complete with handheld cameras and everything. But although it was fake I do think that being legitimately scared wasn't, because even though these people knew what they were signing onto with MTV being alone at night with just a camera inside a dark place can be pretty intense, your mind starts messing with you and you can get pretty creeped out.

I just remember the very first episode that was shown where that one dude had to pull the sheet off of a chair or whatever as his dare, after being informed of some angry spirit in that room or something like that, and just as he did he ran away screaming like a little girl! Oh man, good times.

++ So. Comic Con's already in session, I've been reading reports from some of the panels so far. The one I'm leaning towards is the Supernatural one. Only because I want to know if they're going to show the gag reel for season four and if Misha starts doing random things like he always does. Also, is there actually a Heroes panel this year? I thought they mentioned some months ago there wasn't going to be one.
