++ The announcement that three of the seven members of Dreamcatcher will not be renewing their contracts with the company has left me with conflicted feelings of devastation. While it's technically not a disbandment because they will still be continuing with the activities with the group, as stated in the message, there is still a level of uncertainty about their future as a group overall.

My thoughts and feelings, as a fan. )

At the end of the day, this is their decision for what is best for them and I respect it. And knowing that there are still kpop groups who are technically still active but haven't released anything together in a while (ex: Mamamoo) and some that were disbanded but have reunited after many years (ex: 2NE1, Baby V.O.X), anything can be possible. Dreamcatcher has defied the odds before, so I'm holding onto the hope that this will be beneficial for the group in the future.

++ On a more upbeat note, we have another trailer for The Last Of Us season two. I'm so excited! I legit got chills watching it. This is, by far, my highly anticipated show of this year. Love the games, loved the first season and I cannot wait to see how they do the (first half) of the second game for season two. I also discovered Pedro and Bella's reaction to the trailer at the SXSW panel, and the emotional reaction from Pedro at the end was so touching.

++ Additionally, every time I read that a show has split something into two seasons I keep on thinking that it's of the 13-22 episode seasons rather than the current 6-8 episode seasons, which throws me off. It's also annoying, because it's like well why not just have it all be in one season? IDK.

++ The South Korean president has been impeached, with many of the protestors celebrating the announcement. Watching the events unfold from when he had declared martial law only to quickly revoke it hours later with a small "whoops my bad" statement, to the mass protests by South Korean citizens over the last week, it's been wild but I can also imagine scary. At least the protests managed to keep up those spirits with the people, since they were using kpop as a way of keeping everyone united in solidarity with one another, with the various group light sticks and even kpop idols were joining in the protests. Congratulations, South Korea. America really should take notes......

++ Dreamcatcher has been releasing meme recreations as official teasers for their upcoming Christmas comeback. They've done similar things with their self-made music videos for the b-side songs. It's adorable, fun and silly, and so on brand for them.

++ In a recent interview Sarah Michelle Gellar made a brief comment about being open to a reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, when previously she hadn't been. Now I'm taking this statement as merely hypothetical, just based on the context of why she was saying it. I think she's more or less just wanting more kinds of characters like Buffy in the current political and social climates we're living in, which I cannot blame her for. Honestly, I can't think of a character or show in recent years that compares to what BTVS/Buffy Summers was to a lot of young people when the show aired, especially young women (not that things are given a chance in television to really make such a strong impact, mind you). So I can understand the longing of needing another Buffy-like character and story to exist in media again.

Obviously the show doesn't need a reboot, it's fine as it is. And since people are still discovering it for the first time anyway, it's best to leave it be and let people naturally gravitate to the series.

While I don't use Spotify, after seeing people doing the Spotify wrapped that happens at the end of every year I decided to kind of partake in this but with one particular category that I saw, "your most listened to artist", because although I don't necessarily care about such things I actually do have an answer to this one:

Dreamcatcher.

Not only are they my most listened to artist this year, I also discovered them this year as well, which makes it no surprise that I listened to them ad nauseum.

Of their songs, "Scream", "Odd Eye", and "VISION" were my most listened to of their main singles. For their b-side tracks, I'd have to say probably "Starlight", "In The Frozen", "Don't Light My Fire", "No More", "SAHARA", "Breaking Out"....okay, I could go on and on, really. Their b-sides are just amazing, but their entire discography is amazing, which is very rare for me. Even with artists that I love and enjoy listening to I will end up skipping some of their songs, but somehow Dreamcatcher has become the exception to that so far. And that's why they became my most listened to artist/group this year, because I ended up not just discovering them and just listening to everything they have out so far (and including being there for their comeback), but also just genuinely loving their songs and having them constantly on repeat and in rotation in my music playlist.

I guess it's safe to say that Dreamcatcher is the artist/group of 2022 for me. ❤

++ Due to 2NE1 having reunited at Coachella recently, which was a pleasant surprise to say the least, it made me yearn for reunions of 4Minute and Wonder Girls so badly, even though the likelihood of that happening is small.

I've been listening to kpop (and jpop/cpop/etc) since the early 00s and when I discovered 2NE1 and those other groups when they debuted it wasn't anything new for me, but I think I mostly was only exclusively listening to solo artists, which I didn't realize at the time because I only ended up listening to whatever sounded good, and still do, actually, I don't really pay that close attention to anything beyond that (I'm not of the kpop fandoms, btw, I listen to what I like and that's it). But 2016/2017 were years that a bunch of kpop girl groups ended up getting disbanded, with 2NE1, 4Minute, and Wonder Girls being the most notable ones, which I have to admit was disheartening at the time with them disbanding so close together (I even made a post about it at the time when it happened). I know some individual members of those groups attempt to go solo afterwards and some are quite successful, but still. Disbanding happens all the time, usually due to contractual negotiations, but I think it was with those particular disbanding that made me understand just how fragile the industry worked over there.

I don't know, I just felt like rambling about this since I'm still slightly bitter about it, but still happy to see that even after all this time the members of 2NE1 can still come together to do a small unofficial comeback reunion.

++ I haven't been playing video games as much as I used to, and it's not due to disinterest because I still want to, but it's more due to a combination of IRL stuff that got in the way over the last few years and also focusing my attention on other fandom and media things. There are plenty of games that I have that I haven't gotten around to playing yet that I want to, it's just a matter of finding the right time to do so since my schedule is a bit borked at the moment.

Of course now I'm thinking about all the games that I want to play, but can't because a.) I don't have the console the game is exclusively on and b.) most games nowadays are far too expensive. It's been that way for years now, but it's something that just completely baffles me, and it's why I'm always so "late" when playing games because I wait for certain ones to go on clearance sales at a much lower price. I mean, I'm not that concerned about being caught up with whatever is popular in the gaming world, but it's just ridiculous that the more notable games that I find intriguing and want to play are ones that I probably won't be able to for some time for all the reasons stated above. It's annoying, is all.

++ Soundtrack Of Your Life Meme: If your life was a movie, what would the soundtrack be? Open your music library (iTunes or whatever), put it on shuffle and press play. For every question, type the song that's playing. When you go to a new question, press the next button. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool and choose songs to fit with the setting.

Soundtrack of my life... )

++ Wonder Girls are officially disbanding, and this makes me incredibly sad. First it was 4Minute, then 2NE1, and now the Wonder Girls. These were the quintessential Kpop girl groups that all debuted in the mid-2000s. Wonder Girls underwent a lot throughout the years, and had just make their comeback last year after a prolonged hiatus. And now they're no more. I was hoping that the recent news of breaking away for JYP Entertainment would have them looking to another company to be signed under, but nope. While I know the girls will be doing things individually, I was really looking forward to seeing what else they could do as a group, since their comeback was so good. Some of their most iconic songs over the years include: "Irony", "Tell Me", "So Hot", "Nobody" (the single they performed while touring with the Jonas Brothers in the U.S.), and their 2016 comeback single, "I Feel You". Thank you, Wonder Girls, for everything, wishing you all the best and may your futures be bright and successful. ♥

++ I'll be honest, I'm not really that attached to the X-Men franchise, however with Logan, just based off the trailers alone, especially the latest one that was released, I'm actually looking forward to seeing what it may bring. Perhaps it's due to the fact that it looks absolutely nothing like the previous X-Men films, less with the blockbuster flash and more emotionally raw and character driven, which seems to be exactly what fans have been wanting for years in regards to a Logan/Wolverine story on the big screen. Considering this is Hugh Jackman's final appearance in the franchise, this is the perfect sendoff for him and his character. Furthermore, just the concept of this film pushes all my buttons: there's the found family aspect with the bonding between Logan and this little girl, along with a redemption arc for his character, and just, ugh, yes. I have such a weakness for those kinds of stories. The fact that this slightly resembles The Last Of Us doesn't help, either (and it might be the closest thing we'll get seeing TLOU live action movie for a while, so I'll take what I can get). If nothing else, I'll be going into this movie for that alone. Plus, the little girl (X-23) being a badass? Sign me the fuck up, please.

++ We finally have the official title for the next Star Wars installment: Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Let all the speculations of what that means begin! I'll just be waiting until December, or at least until we get the first official teaser trailer.

++ Ron Glass (Shepherd Book from Firefly) passed away yesterday. It's kind of hard to believe, honestly. It feels like it was yesterday when the excitement over the Serenity movie being made and the entire cast was returning. I may have never met the man but I have heard and seen much about him, from his sardonic sense of humor to his heartwarming moments with the rest of his fellow cast members, to his infectious booming laugh. It's hard to comprehend that a member of the crew is gone, but he will never, ever be forgotten. Rest in peace.

++ 2NE1 has officially disbanded, which adds more salt on the wound since 4Minute also disbanded earlier this year as well. Though I have to admit it wasn't surprising about 2NE1 since CL has been trying to make her American debut and it would be impossible for her to do that while doing a comeback with the group in Korea, whenever that would've been, so I suspected it as much. But 4Minute's disbanding broke my heart because they had just had their comeback, but it was announced of them being discontinued as a group rather abruptly. I know some don't necessarily care about kpop groups, and I only know some of the drama/behind the scenes negotiations from what I read at selective sources but not as closely as more hardcore fans who follow those kinds of stories. But nevertheless, such news is still heartbreaking. I really liked both groups, they both debuted around the same time and both released some amazing bops over the years. Some of my favorites from 2NE1 include: "Fire", "Can't Nobody" and "Follow Me". And from 4Minute: "HuH (Hit Your Heart)", "Crazy", and "Hate". Thank you girls for everything over the years, may your futures be bright and bring you much success.

How come nobody told me of [livejournal.com profile] kpop_macros or even [livejournal.com profile] kpop_wank? Srsly. With the latter I usually read about the insanity over at certain forums and boards, often times wanting to smash something, but this is a great alternative without going through many pages of stuff concerning DBSK, SNSD or Super Junior (even though the comm hasn't been updated in a while, oh well). Makes me really glad to not be participating in these fandoms. Macros makes everything better though, yepyep.

As for the Twilight madness, I'm just sitting back with popcorn watching the insanity unfold even more. Scary as the fangirls are, I'm laughing at how offended they are about the ending of the series, much less ranting about how disappointment they are. Major LOLing over here. I am amused by their anger and outrage, it's quite funny. Honestly, what else would you expect from someone like SMeyer who likes pulling out shiny sparkling things from her ass and claiming it's the best thing ever? I'm just waiting for her to go all Anne Rice and respond to all those Amazon.com reviews. Or, something similar. Oh, this is going to be fun.

For the record, I'm only seeing the movie for teh ~*~sparkling vampires~*~ 'Cause if they don't sparkle, then there's no point. It's not like there's a major plot for me to be interested in or anything, so I want to be DAZZLED.

To top this all off: DR. HORRIBLE MY LITTLE PONIES!

OMG THIS POST IS FILLED WITH TEH CRACK, WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?! MOAR CRACK! MOAR CRACK! MOAR SPARKLING CRACK!
