"If the apocalypse comes, beep me."
Dec. 16th, 2024 03:02 am++ The South Korean president has been impeached, with many of the protestors celebrating the announcement. Watching the events unfold from when he had declared martial law only to quickly revoke it hours later with a small "whoops my bad" statement, to the mass protests by South Korean citizens over the last week, it's been wild but I can also imagine scary. At least the protests managed to keep up those spirits with the people, since they were using kpop as a way of keeping everyone united in solidarity with one another, with the various group light sticks and even kpop idols were joining in the protests. Congratulations, South Korea. America really should take notes......
++ Dreamcatcher has been releasing meme recreations as official teasers for their upcoming Christmas comeback. They've done similar things with their self-made music videos for the b-side songs. It's adorable, fun and silly, and so on brand for them.
++ In a recent interview Sarah Michelle Gellar made a brief comment about being open to a reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, when previously she hadn't been. Now I'm taking this statement as merely hypothetical, just based on the context of why she was saying it. I think she's more or less just wanting more kinds of characters like Buffy in the current political and social climates we're living in, which I cannot blame her for. Honestly, I can't think of a character or show in recent years that compares to what BTVS/Buffy Summers was to a lot of young people when the show aired, especially young women (not that things are given a chance in television to really make such a strong impact, mind you). So I can understand the longing of needing another Buffy-like character and story to exist in media again.
Obviously the show doesn't need a reboot, it's fine as it is. And since people are still discovering it for the first time anyway, it's best to leave it be and let people naturally gravitate to the series.

Date: 2024-12-18 05:11 am (UTC)I'm excited for Dreamcatcher's new music.
TV series these days aren't given the chance to truly make it, to make a difference, etc. For example, Shadow & Bone had SO much potential and strong cast but the ending of S2 totally did not follow the books at all, so with the cliffhanger I was praying for a S3 and Netflix just up and cancels it when it had REAL potential. But a lot of networks these days only give series 2 seasons or so and then they just cancel them no matter the fanbase. It's frustrating. :(

It really is. And streaming is very sketchy in general with how they determine what is considered to be worthy of renewing. I hate it.

I'm one of those discovering Buffy for the first time. I'm trying to find and watch more older stuff just because it's more relaxing than keeping up with new releases.

I've seen a lot of people with similar sentiments, and it's been kind of amazing seeing a lot of older fandoms kind of get a resurgence because of it. And it makes sense. A lot of newer shows don't last long, and if they do they don't have enough episodes, and there seems to be a massive wait time these days on streaming services for newer seasons of ongoing shows. Getting into older shows that has more substance (episodes and seasons) and you don't have to worry about it suddenly getting cancelled. Plus, it's nice to finally watch something that you've seen people talk about for years but never got the chance to.

Date: 2024-12-19 02:50 pm (UTC)I've enjoyed SMG having more work and thus more interviews. I think she's made her peace with Buffy and I'm glad she's open to going back. I don't see a world in which that would happen without Joss Whedon so I'm not so keen on it at this point but I'm glad she's doing well.
