++ In case I missed anyone, thank you for all the birthday wishes! ♥

++ Community recommendations: [livejournal.com profile] stitchers_tv and [livejournal.com profile] killjoys_tv. I know that fandom communities are a dying breed these days, and anything for newer fandoms are virtually nonexistent on LJ. But at least some are being made, these two for Stitchers and Killjoys, both shows that have premiered this year and have been renewed for second seasons, so if you're a fan of either and would like to keep the fandom community discussion alive, definitely worth checking out. Speaking of, Stitchers is going to be having a Halloween special soon, and I can't wait to see what that is going to feature.

++ Defiance has been cancelled. I'm less surprised and more disappointed with this news, mostly because aside from figuring that there would last at least one more season, it was one of my shows that I liked watching so hearing about this was such a huge bummer, emotionally. At least from what I hear the third season finale was satisfactory enough to be counted as a series finale, so that's good. I guess I'm just disappointed because Defiance was one of those creative science fiction shows that had a shitload of world-building, from terraformed Earth to the characters and the different alien races, detailing not just their costumes and appearances but also all the languages and cultures, the interpersonal relationships between them and the humans, the conflicts and working together, and just everything in between, especially the music. It was a wonderful and beautiful show in that regard, and despite it living a healthy three season life and ending on a high note rather than getting mishandled by the writers and execs, it does feel like a loss somehow that we'll never see this world again.

The Character Personality Meme )

++ I've been thinking about doing that female characters meme that I see people doing, though looking at all the questions, especially regarding favorites, I literally just want to go ALL THE LADIES. ALL OF THEM. Seriously, with all the fandoms I have, from new to old, it would be impossible to pick just one favorite female character in any category question. :3

++ Watched the season premiere of Sleepy Hollow, loved it, just basically spent the entire thing going (♥‿♥) at Ichabod and Abbie. Also watched the pilot for Gotham and while I wasn't unimpressed, I'm rather unsure if I will be keeping up with it. DC comics isn't my territory. I will say, though, that I am mostly intrigued by young Selina Kyle, even though she barely spoke a word. I may have to tune into the next episode to see where they'll be going with her character.

++ While I no longer watch The Vampire Diaries and was only partially paying attention to The Originals, some recent news for the upcoming new season of the latter sparked an interest. Here there be spoilers ) It might not be enough to get me to tune in, but I am still very intrigued nonetheless.

Defiance has been renewed for a second season.

Killer Women, starring BSG alums Tricia Helfer and Michael Trucco, has been picked up by ABC.

Nikita has been renewed for a fourth season. Our underdog show gets another season and I am so happy. Although it seems that there's uncertainty about how many episodes the season will contain, and apparently it'll be lesser than previous seasons. Possibly under ten? Idk.

It appears that The Borgias might not be getting a fourth season, and instead the story will possibly be wrapped up by a two-hour televised movie. At least, that's what is being talked about behind the scenes.

Now all we need is news regarding Hannibal. *crosses all the fingers*

Game of Thrones: I didn't watch the last episode, though I got the gist of what happened. I'm just waiting for the next episode because THE BEAR PIT and DANY. ♥

Hannibal: Everyone should be watching this show. I'm not just saying this because it's dangerously on the verge of not getting renewed (which I really hope it does), but also because it's a very, very good show, and very gorgeous too. Grotesquely gorgeous, in fact. Even if this isn't your preferred genre, it's still rather fascinating to watch. Someone said that it's very dreamlike, and indeed it is. Also, the best part about it is that you already know who Hannibal is and what he does. Everyone else around him is completely oblivious so it's just a matter of inside jokes with himself and the audience (ex. "It's always nice to have friends over for dinner.")

Defiance: Continues to be amazing. Also another show people should be watching if you aren't already. I pretty much love everything about the Tarr family, Stahma in particular because she is just so cunning and manipulative in a very calm, polite way. If she were to play the game of thrones, she would win hands down.

Elementary: Continues to be happy-making. JOAN AND SHERLOCK = FOREVER CHILDREN AND ADORABLE BFFS. ♥_♥ And we get Irene Alder this week! :D

Doctor Who: I haven't watched anything passed the Christmas episode, to be honest. It just hasn't really enthused me as it used to. I'm thinking once Clara's identity is revealed that will determine whether I will continue watching or not.

My people have a God called Urzu. He has a path for each of us. Where it takes us is not always where we imagined. There is a reason. Nolan's people call it fate. )

Overall, I really enjoyed the premiere of this new series. It has a lot of elements that I like. It sort of reminded me of Eureka with how certain things were introduced, adding in the fusion of Firefly and Farscape to the characters and world and situations. Hopefully if TPTB are smart, they'll take full advantage of this show and make it be as amazing as it can be. It could become the next big thing since Battlestar Galactica aired, which according to the ratings they hit big, bigger than they've had in years now. That's gotta say something, right?

Oh, and never mind that the soundtrack was simply phenomenal. Then again, when you have Bear McCreary working on something it's bound to be brilliant regardless. Just listen to the main theme. Two words: Gorgeously epic.

I highly recommend checking out Defiance if you are in need of something new to watch.

Trailers + links to the making of/behind the scenes videos )

To give a quick rundown, as seen in the promotional material, this is a science fiction immigrant story, a tale of both human and various alien races and cultures living on a new, post-apocalyptic Earth, preserving what they've got left as they rebuild their lives in the town of Defiance while learning to coexist peacefully with one other.

It has elements of Firefly and Farscape quality, particularly with the latter since the developer of Defiance also created Farscape. Considering how intricate and detailed everything is, from the characters and different cultural backgrounds and looks of the alien races, to the environment that they'll be living in and their relationships with each other, I'm wondering if this will become the new big science fiction show on Syfy. Some of the crew from Battlestar Galactica are working on this new show, including Bear McCreary, who will be scoring the soundtrack (:D !!! ♥ ♥ ♥), and the main cast ensemble is made up of such a lovely group of actors (Julie Benz, Jamie Murray, Tony Curran, etc.) I seriously hope that Syfy knows that they've got something fascinating here, and that they don't give up on it like they've done with their previous shows. I seriously want to see where this will lead to, since it has potential has looks very promising in its content and characters and story.

Defiance premieres April 15th on the Syfy Channel.
