++ The book cover art has been revealed for the first volume of the Guardian English translation. I love it! It looks so good. It really captures Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan and their whole dynamic perfectly. I cannot wait to get my hands on it. I only managed to read some excerpts from the fan translation of the novel before this was announced, so I know how vastly different to novel is from the drama. So I cannot wait to get my hands on this. The release date has been pushed back from its original scheduled release, but I'm okay with waiting just a little longer.
++ I watched the second trailer for Dune: Part 2 that came out recently, and my overall reaction is: give it to me now. If I wasn't already excited for it before, this second trailer would've done the job. Especially at the end when Paul yells, "Long live the fighters!"
++ Lately I've been catching up on my TTRPG show watching.
Critical Role
I'm really enjoying the third campaign a lot, they're really shaking things up which has been intriguing to see. The biggest shake up was the splitting of the party. I like that direction, it's new and different and exciting. It adds more layers to character developments along with the fear of what happened that caused them to be separated and how the fuck they're going to confront that, not to mention bringing in guests for them to meet and interact with other characters (sidenote: I love that they brought back Aimee and that they finally got Emily Axford). I think my favorite thing so far, though, is how they're so different, it's like day and night with what they're personally dealing with. Especially with the latest episode that happened two weeks ago, that was a doozy, particularly for Laudna and Orym and the individual trauma that they're dealing with. It's going to be amazing, and interesting, when Bells Hells reunite with each other again and compare and contrast what they've all gone through and how that's going to affect them all going forward.
Dimension 20
I've been subscribed to Dropout for a while now, making my way through the various series and content they have over there, and I've been simultaneously watching Dimension 20's The Seven and A Court Of Fey And Flowers.
The Seven is such a delight, I like seeing that aside from Brennan, the entire cast is of women. I love the dynamic they all have with each other, as players as well as the characters themselves. If I had to pick a favorite character, it would be difficult because I ended up adoring them all so it would be like a rotation of favorites. But ultimately, I think it's a tie between Danielle Barkstock and Ostentatia Wallace. Ostentatia is a character who kind of exudes this kind of outward confidence that I aspire to have, while Danielle is probably the character most like me. Both Danielle and Zelda are the characters that I resonated with the most, actually.
A Court Of Fey And Flowers was a pleasant surprise for me. I'm normally not one for regency stories since it's not a genre I gravitate towards, however I was persuaded after watching a few compilations and I was immediately hooked. It may not be a favorite genre of mine, but when you add the TTRPG element to it of course it's going to be gripping, especially since a lot of it is improvised and so you see the genuine reactions, the genuine heartfelt and heartbreak and drama of what is going on. Plus, you have Emily Axford and Lou Wilson playing chaotic cousins who are just there for the drama of it all, and I love it.
++ Watching the gradual implosion of Twitter has been fascinating to watch, in a sad kind of way. The recent "read limit" restriction that was implemented is going to go over so well with the majority of its users.

It's literally such an amateurish move, it's so backwards and lacks the understanding of how things work, then again it's not surprising considering this is precisely the kind of bullshit he's pulled since he got control of the site. It's just fascinating watching a site crash and burn due to such incompetence.

Date: 2023-07-02 09:43 am (UTC)(I still haven't watched the first Dune. (*/ω\*) )
The newest twitter meltdown is sure something! I lovked in yesterday for the first time in a while and people were enraged (I mean, they usually are on twitter for one thing or other, but...). I kept on scrolling and didn't hit my, uhhh, 600 post limit? But it seems no-one knows how it's being counted, and if people have many many notes, they'll hit the limit practically right away, as one user I follow said (they post fic and have loads of subrscribers, so just checking notes basically locked them out for the day...)

Date: 2023-07-02 03:29 pm (UTC)I'm rarely on Twitter these days, and when I am, it's an account that I don't follow many others, so the read limit wouldn't effect me much; I was curious when I saw the trending hashtags. (I won't say "surprised," because the real surprise is that the site/app still works at all and has so many users, honestly.) Them DDOSing themselves is plain funny and just shows the boss's brilliance.

Date: 2023-07-02 10:34 pm (UTC)It's both funny and sad, really. Funny, because he's a bumbling billionaire idiot who doesn't understand anything and failing spectacularly. Sad, because his ego is so huge he continues to pull this shit and ruining everyone else's lives in the process. I never had an account on Twitter, I only checked in occasionally for particular things (news, announcements, fanworks that were only posted on there specifically), but the fact that I can't even see anything now because I'm not a user is just utterly ridiculous.

Date: 2023-07-03 03:22 am (UTC)I didn't consider the effects on non-users! I guess it's just a blocked site if you don't have an account. That's just bad business. The whole thing is bad business, and you'd think a somehow successful businessman would understand that, but I'm really thinking that he's not even the brains behind anything.

Date: 2023-07-17 02:32 pm (UTC)I really look forward to seeing more. I'm watching it with my Partner (who has the subscription) and has seen everything already. Since I'm relatively new to D&D, they started me on Fantasy High first so I could learn with the characters. It's definitely helped. It's given me ideas for tactics as well as shown me various out-of-the-box ways to use abilities and spells! I've only been in one D&D Campaign a long time ago and one Pathfinder homebrew (about Homestuck) that we're finishing up right now. So It's really beneficial to me.
I'm really looking forward to watching A Crown of Candy, which we're doing next after Fantast High.

Date: 2023-07-17 11:19 pm (UTC)Fantasy High was the first D20 campaign I remember seeing clips and gifs of, though I think my favorite campaigns have been The Seven, The Unsleeping City, and most recently A Court Of Fey and Flowers. I haven't gotten to A Crown of Candy yet, and I still need to finish watching Neverafter.

Date: 2023-07-18 01:02 pm (UTC)I'm really enjoying Fantasy High. I should finish it within the next few days! I look forward to checking out the other ones that you've mentioned as well. A Crown of Candy is so intriguing to me. I haven't seen it, but I very vaguely remember my partner telling me about it months ago and being a little mindblown by it. It sounds really cool, so I can't wait to see what happens with it!
I look forward to being able to talk to you about some of the shows on Dropout!

Date: 2023-07-20 07:30 am (UTC)Now that Dropout seems to be kind of halting production due to the SAG/WGA strikes, it would be the perfect chance to catch up on what they have featured. And it's a lot, they've produced a lot of stuff that's definitely worth checking out.

Date: 2023-07-20 11:31 am (UTC)That's precisely what I'm doing. There's so much content for Dropout right now that I'm not overly concerned about losing content (especially since I usually don't watch much anyway). I do hope the writers and actors get what they're looking for, though. They deserve better pay.
