I didn't particularly care for the last book, but the films have added a little more substance to what is happening within that world and the other characters that I think I'll end up liking what they do, at least for the first part.

I'm really excited for the final movies, I think that it's going to work a LOT better in movie format because the book was kind of struggling by then with keeping everything as solely Katniss's POV. That worked well for the first book, but by the end a lot seemed to be rushed through, trying to cover a revolution through the limited POV of one character who was being used as a figurehead just didn't always work

Very true. The last movie kept a good balance of expanding the perspective but at the same time hiding things from us that Katniss didn't know in order to keep the ending successful. I think they'll be able to do the same this time.

That's what I appreciate about the films, they enhance the world much better than the books did, allowing us to see different perspectives than just with Katniss. And now that the revolution is happening, we actually need to see it occurring rather than only hear about it after the fact. We need to see how it affects not just Katniss, but others around her.

I know trailers can be misleading, but it really does look good. And Catching Fire was great, so I have high hopes that this will do just as good.

I could never get into the books in general (first person doesn't really work for me, I can get drawn into first person stories). But the movies are awesome. And I'm really excited. This looks awesome. From what I've heard though, there are things in the last book that I hope make more sense in the movie (and dividing it in half hopefully gives them the space to do that).

I'm the same. I'm rather iffy when it comes to first-person narratives, and there are few that I have actually liked and kept me engaged with the storytelling. With these books, they were a fast read, but were very limiting to what was happening, which shouldn't be the case especially when you're focusing on an uprising of a revolution in a dystopian world.

But the films have done a good job with going around that, starting from the first movie when we saw what was happening in the Districts during the Games, like District 11 rioting after Rue's death. That was a pleasant surprise and I'm hoping they keep up with it.

The third book is just a little strange, keeping Katniss as the sole POV character, even when she's not present for much of the action of the plot. I'm pretty excited for the movie(s) just based on the fact that they're unlikely to do that, so we should get to see world from some other character perspectives.

It wasn't a good narrative choice, imo. I know there's this need to immerse the readers into Katniss' mind and what she's going through, especially in the first book, but at the same time when so much is building of that world and what's going on throughout the series, particularly with the uprising of a revolution you can't really rely on a first-person narrative without it feeling disjointed and incomplete. Which is why the movies are a better medium to work with that, of filling in the blanks and allowing us to see what is happening outside of Katinss' perspective. So I'm pretty intrigued with how they're going to manage that in these last two films.

I haven't read the last book, so I can't comment on that, but I've heard it's not as good as the others. I will get around to it, hopefully before I watch the first part of Mockinghay. I've decided not to watch the trailer for now which is pointless really as I'm spoiled anyway. I think the film verse did really well with Catching Fire and if they continue down that line I think the last two films will be great as well. I look forward to them.

Yeah, unfortunately it does suffer from that, and it's one of the issues I have with the series overall. It could have gone into so many different ways, especially politically as it has certain things setup, but it was left quite open-ended in particular aspects. One of the things I've always wondered was, since Panem was basically North America, what about the state of the rest of the world? How are they affected? And many other things that I wished the series had touched on, but that's a rant for a different time.

I think the film verse did really well with Catching Fire and if they continue down that line I think the last two films will be great as well. I look forward to them.

I read them all so quickly that they kinda blend together for me but I'm super excited about the new movie. I wasn't that into the last movie but I think it's probably one of those things once all parts are out that will be fun to binge watch.

I did read all three books similarly too, though I was left feeling kind of meh about the last one. But the films have done nicely so far, so perhaps the film version of Mockingjay might be better for me. We'll have to wait and see.

I have only read the first two books and I've heard that the third one isn't that good. The trailer seems pretty decent and interesting, although I don't really understand why they had to make two films out of this one as well. It seems to be a trend nowadays.

I really liked the second movie, so I hope that this new one will be as exciting as the second one was!

If they're dividing the last one into two, I'm hoping it's just to elaborate on what's happening with the revolution since that's what was lacking in the book. While I agree that the trend has become tired and overdone, I do think it works if done correctly and for storytelling purposes.

I loved Mockingjay, so I'm interested in seeing the movies. I think that if they were going to split one of the books into two movies, it really should've been Catching Fire. Anyway, the movie has a lot of room to show us what else was going on since we only saw and knew about what Katniss did since it was through her POV.

That's what I'm expecting. I'm rather curious to see how they're going to show everything involved with the uprising of the revolution and how it affects the characters outside of Katniss. I've liked how the films have incorporated that so far, so I'm hopeful.

It's kind of ridiculous how almost every franchise now being adapted into films has to have the final film being split into two films. With some it can work and the director takes advantage of that to explore the story more than with a restricted timeframe, but in general it's overdone and it's gotten to the point where it's just about the money rather than expanding the storytelling, tbh.

But with Mockingjay, I don't know, I feel like it can actually work since they can actually expand and explore what is happening with the revolution since it was quite limited in the book.

I couldn't agree more. I loved the first book, tolerated the second and hated the third. But I actually very much enjoyed the second movie so hopefully this one will be better than the book.

This is kind of an example of where the adaptations are slightly better because they enhanced something that the books didn't have. Of course I still have issues with the series overall, but I have been enjoying the films much more than I ever anticipated so that's an upside I'm hoping continues into these last two films.

At least I feel like I know how they are going to split the movies now. It sounds like this will be all about "saving Peeta" (ha ha ha) and the second half will be the final fight against the Capital. I wish they hadn't split it but oh well, at least now I have a better idea what to expect.

I'm one of the few that liked Mockingjay though LOL. I think I was just in the mood for something dark.

Sounds about right. I don't mind them dividing it as long as they make use of that by expanding and furthering the storytelling rather than unnecessarily dragging it along. I really want to see everything involving the revolution and taking down the Capitol, and I feel like if it's anything like what Catching Fire was, it's going to be pretty awesome.

(%*@#RIUWFJ I CANNOT EVEN. This freaking movie...I'm going to die when it gets to the end because I have to wait ANOTHER YEAR to see the ending of it and I know they're going to kick so much ass with these movies. I know Mockingjay is considered to be the worst of the books- I didn't really feel like that when I read it though it was kind of frustrating to have Katniss constantly being in and out of consciousness.

Mockingjay is probably not the book/movie that should have been split into two parts, but at the same time...it means they'll be able to include important details that they would otherwise probably leave out (though they might still end up dong that anyway. They did that a bit with Catching Fire but it wasn't nearly as bad as what they did with the first movie.

I have to decide which theater I want to get tickets from. The theater my friend and I usually go to is twenty minutes away and a better theater and hopefully they'd do an 8:00 showing, but my town also has a theater that's five minutes away. It's a lot smaller, though, and not as good of a theater (there's no stadium seating, for one thing). I'll probably have to see if my friend will be good with just driving to the theater twenty minutes away since it's a better theater.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I didn't really think the last book was bad, but it was not what I'd expected and it was sooo dark, so I didn't really care for it. But the first two films have been really good, so I plan to go see the last two as well.

Can't wait for this. I actually liked the last book, and I think it will translate well to film. The issues with the books were mostly to do with it being limited to first person, whereas the films can avoid that. Exciting!
