I didn't particularly care for the last book, but the films have added a little more substance to what is happening within that world and the other characters that I think I'll end up liking what they do, at least for the first part.
I haven't read the last book, so I can't comment on that, but I've heard it's not as good as the others. I will get around to it, hopefully before I watch the first part of Mockinghay. I often felt with the first two books that there were too little background and history presented to give the series the depth I felt it truly needed. It felt like many layeres just lacked as there was no way to dig deeper.
I've decided not to watch the trailer for now which is pointless really as I'm spoiled anyway. I think the film verse did really well with Catching Fire and if they continue down that line I think the last two films will be great as well. I look forward to them.

Yeah, unfortunately it does suffer from that, and it's one of the issues I have with the series overall. It could have gone into so many different ways, especially politically as it has certain things setup, but it was left quite open-ended in particular aspects. One of the things I've always wondered was, since Panem was basically North America, what about the state of the rest of the world? How are they affected? And many other things that I wished the series had touched on, but that's a rant for a different time.

I feel the same way.
