I understand that this is just a promotional picture and they're still keeping his look in the show the same anyway, but at the same time I feel like I'm betraying his regular trenchcoat. I'm in the middle of going "how dare they with this fuckery?" because the trenchcoat goddammit!, but also I'm in the leagues with everyone else that Misha looks damn good in black. I mean, think about what he wore at Chicon '09 and apply that to Castiel-esque attire, just minus the waistcoat.

THEY ARE CONFUSING ME WITH THIS, DAMMIT. HOW SHOULD I BE REACTING? EMBRACE AND ENJOY THE PRETTY? WACKY PARALLEL UNIVERSE SPIN-OFFS WITH CASTIEL HAVING AN EVIL!TWIN? BE ALL LULZ OVER IT? FEEL BETRAYED? I CAN'T EVEN, BRAIN IS BROKE NOW.

I am too mesmerized by the pretty to feel betrayed. But I wonder if it means something for Castiel later on in the season. I am spoiler free so maybe I am seeing too much into this?

I don't think so, since had their wardrobe not been stolen prior to this photoshoot they would have used Castiel's regular clothes. Also it could be just the style of the shoot itself. I'm spoiler free too, though I remember Misha saying earlier before that the trenchcoat and outfit was here to stay.

Misha looks fantabulous in anything, really. ;)

Black DOES look good on him. There's no doubt about that. And I could probably get used to that look on Castiel after a while.
But right now it just looks like there's something wrong to me.
Yeah, Castiel's evil twin or something - hey, remember Casteel? - because Castiel and the trenchcoat are just too closely linked in my head and seeing him in anyhing else - not matter how pretty he looks in it - is just weird. But like I said, I'm sure I could get used to it after a while.

That's my thought too! That's clearly Dean and Sam, but that's clearly not Castiel. That's Misha posing in some new outfit. Like he got transported from another one of his (what should be many more) photoshoots and into a SPN promo shot for some reason.

...And of course this could spawn more "when Misha invaded the SPNverse" kinds of fics, with Misha/Dean. ;p

I have a biased love for his trenchcoat, like for real. I love trenchcoats and his is like loveeee. Anything else is just wrong to me. But Misha looks good in anything, pinstripes to just regular wear. He's just gorgeous all around. But I'm wholly convinced that's Misha in the pic and not Castiel. *nods*

I've always wanted to see Misha dressed in all black, actually. At conventions he either wears black/dark suits but with something else of color underneath it in different variations.

I think had we not been told the story regarding the stolen wardrobe and how the wardrobe people didn't know what Castiel was supposed to have looked like, I would have appreciated the pretty for what it is rather than being conflicted on it.

Plus, I'm crazily attached to that damned trenchcoat of his. Without it he's simply not Castiel. On the other hand, I can accept this just being a photoshoot with the cast members because they have done photoshoots before where Jared and Jensen are wearing clothes that Sam and Dean would never wear on the show, but are still for promotional purposes anyway. But I think it's more of the "this is a SPN promo" without the iconic trenchcoat and outfit? What is this?

Misha looks fantastic though, as always. And him being featured in a promo finally? Definitely an upside.
