My sleeping patterns are problematic.
Jun. 7th, 2009 07:08 am++ Apparently my sleep schedules gone whacked for reasons stated previously in my RL post, I don't know whether it's insomnia or I'm oversleeping via naps and I have just screwed myself over from that entirely. And you know those nights where you're trying to fall asleep but just can't no matter how hard you try? Yeah, just had one of those nights. Not fun. Le sigh.
++ WONDER GIRLS will be making their American debut! First BoA and now Wonder Girls? I'm liking this sudden change of pace of Asian artists making their headway into the Western music scene, and this has me hoping that they'll collaborate together. The unfortunate thing is they'll be touring with the freaking Jonas Brothers. Srsly JYP, the JoBros? Srsly? I'm sorry, but WONDER GIRLS >>>> JOBROS ANYDAY. They are way too classy for that shit. Nevertheless though, it's the marketing strategy to gain more audiences here which I understand, and judging from the articles coming out with this news they are suggesting that the girls won't be changing their style other than translating their lyrics from Korean to English, so that's good. Hopefully they'll break out onto their own after getting their first exposure to the American audiences, and I'm sure they will. 'Cause they are just that amazingly fierce like that.
++ New fandoms are shiny and fun. I've just started getting into Numb3rs (I know, where've I been right?) and kinda loving it actually. The Big Bang Theory is too hilarious for words, like really. I've also just started watching the Korean drama 90 Days, Falling In Love Days which is a drama dealing with the taboo of two first cousins falling in love in something like a Romeo and Juliet drama story in a sense. I've just begun and am on the second episode, but so far I'm liking it, even if the subbing sucks ass. More on new fandoms discovered for later when I have something coherent to say about them.
++ Reading spoilers for Heroes next season and I have to say, I'm not entirely impressed. It seems like the same-old schtick they've been doing for the last three seasons now, aside from the casting spoilers that have been announced. I don't know, not enthusiastic to be honest.
++ MISHA COLLINS MANIPPED HIMSELF! Everyone's seen this already but I don't care, it's worth reposting again and again because it's MISHA FUCKING COLLINS AND HE FUCKING MANIPPED HIMSELF INTO A PICTURE WITH HIS CRAZY TWITTERING!! ♥ ♥ ♥ When he said he was a fangirl in disguise, he certainly wasn't lying. Oh Mish Mish, how did we ever deserve someone like you? ♥

Date: 2009-06-07 11:23 pm (UTC)That's what they couldn't understand. Because some fans are just bratty teenagers no matter what their age and they don't understand that some characters are going to have higher authorities to worry about. Not everyone can be Sam and Dean saying "fuck you" to everyone and doing their own thing. I mean, hell, Castiel toeing the line was probably to protect the boys. And, yeah, I'm totally biased because I was barely watching the last season and then Castiel's what dragged me back to the show, but "coming between the boys"?! If nothing ever came between the boys, half the episodes wouldn't exist! And, for that matter, Castiel is FAR less likely to interfere in their relationship than anyone else.
Also, when in doubt, use subtext.
How many shows succeed BECAUSE of subtext? How many shows have a male lead and a female lead and half of what draws the audience in is waiting for the day they'll finally realize they're perfect for each other? That's far more interesting than badly manufactured "romances."
I think Mohinder would be a very good basis for a spin-off. I've always felt he was one of the characters that should be preserved, as he's not only often a catalyst for various events and meetings, but his very nature allows for him to move around and become involved in many different sorts of events. If anything, they should have become more focused on him, on him being a human surrounded by all of this, giving us things from his perspective more than anyone else's. I always hoped that the second season would involve him hunting for Sylar, actually, or playing a cat-and-mouse game against him. I think how Heroes keeps trying to have bigger and bigger catastrophes (that all fall flat) is also one of the failings of the show--it was best when the problems were on more personal levels.

Date: 2009-06-08 02:16 am (UTC)Definitely, because he knows and understands Dean loves his brother more than anything else and vice versa, and would never come between them ever. If anyone sees Castiel as a potential threat because of that worry, that are delusional.

So much word to this, you don't even know.

I wholeheartedly agree with this notion. There were so many directions they could've gone, and I would've loved seeing where we could have gone with them. Mohinder had connections to almost all the characters and linked everyone together, but he had his own story and I was intrigued, with his family background, with Shanti, with his research, everything. I kinda expected S2 to focus on Mohinder's past a bit, because I think they mentioned that before but it didn't follow through.

Yep, they're more concerned about the plots rather than the characters, which makes us, the audience, feel detached from these characters because there's nothing real about their stories anymore. I'm more interested in their personal journeys than whatever shiny explosion thing they have planned. Continuity to the development of the character along with the progression of the season plotline, that is the key and it is something they've lost sight of, which is driving a lot of people away.
