What an interesting timeline we live in.

icons is hosting a friending meme.
++ My thread for the still ongoing holiday love meme 2024.
++ Perhaps it's been such a long devastatingly crapsack of a year for news coverage that I'm in a "this might as well happen too" headspace, but let me tell you I've been incredibly fascinated with the events that have been happening surrounding the United Healthcare CEO shooting, mainly the public reactions in the aftermath and the reports that follow. It's like a surreal movie plot happening in real time, from the carved bullets to the backpack with Monopoly money, the method of how he got away, and recently NYC held a look-alike contest. Seriously, I haven't witnessed anything like this before. What will come out from this? I don't know. But as of right now as it's still ongoing it's been slightly making up for the depressing political outcome from November, that's for sure. Also yes, it goes without saying that while the act itself is bad, considering how shitty the American healthcare system is and how insurance companies are greedy assholes who deny claims constantly and ruin the lives of so many people who are in dire need of medical help, nobody should be surprised this happened or how the people have been reacting to it.
Between this and the failed coup by the president of South Korea (albeit a more serious situation), it's been one interesting last month of the year for news.

Date: 2024-12-13 12:50 pm (UTC)Somehow we're to believe that killing one person is tragic but not allow ourselves to examine the fact that that one person was responsible for tens of thousands of deaths and bankruptcies and untold ongoing pain and suffering... if one is bad surly we must be allowed to say the other is bad as well.
I agree that everything they're trying to dig up doesn't seem to be landing. So what if this kid was from a wealthy family? You're right that it shows us even more that the system doesn't work. If someone can be wealthy and still suffer more than they should be because a company needs more profits this quarter that system is fundamentally broken and everyone should be paying attention. Even the bootlickers who are saying the kid was wrong should pay attention because it's not like they'll get better treatment when they are sick or in pain. Heck look at the person who called in the tip that got Luigi caught - they likely won't even get the reward because they didn't call the right tip line and the FBI part of the award needs someone else to nominate you to get the money so... it's just another broken system that was never intended to pay out.
Oh - good correction on the video. I still think someone there really really doesn't like their boss because that video leak is essentially painting a target onto that CEO.
