++ I received the second volume of Heaven Official's Blessing! It looks so beautiful, I mean of course it is. Now I'm just anxiously awaiting not just for the next of MXTX's novel volumes to be released, but also for the second season of Heaven Official's Blessing donghua.

++ By the end of February, all of Netflix's Marvel shows will disappear from the service completely. This is mostly speculated because of the contracts the shows had, and based on some characters making appearances in newer MCU-based material on Disney+, it's basically suggesting that Disney will now completely own them. I'm still bitter that they cancelled those shows, though, all because of streaming service wars and whatever ownership feud that was happening and the Marvel switch-up that happened, which unfortunately had a hand in cancelling all non-MCU Marvel shows, and I don't want these characters to be part of the MCU at all, they were fine doing their own thing, existing separately in their own stories without any MCU characters influence whatsoever. I don't know whether those shows are going to be on Disney+ or not, it just sucks that you cannot buy DVDs for them because I would do that in a heartbeat.

++ I have no interest in watching the series, but seeing the reactions to what's been revealed of Amazon's Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been entertaining, to say the least. I figure no matter what, people are going to be unhappy, it's inevitable, because of comparisons to PJ's LOTR trilogy or hardcore Tolkien fans who are deep with the lore are going to tear it apart. I don't have strong opinions (aside from Dwarven women not having beards, the lack of men/elves having long hair or being androgynous, that's just cowardly and a massive disappointment tbh), I'm just going to wait with everyone else and see what comes from it. Although I will say, for a production that was worth over one billion dollars everything seen so far makes it look hilariously cheap and underwhelming.

(Of course, as someone who loves The Hobbit films with my whole heart, flaws and all, I have no room to make such judgments. People will watch it and like what they like, dislike what they dislike, and as someone who has no interest in watching it it's just going to be one hell of a ride watching the fandom outcome of it nonetheless, is all I'm saying.)

I think a part of me will never get over the cancellation of Daredevil and Jessica Jones. They were my favorite.

Me neither, I adored them, especially Jessica Jones. And for the non-Netflix Marvel shows, I'm always going to be bitter about the cancellation of Cloak & Dagger and Runaways, also what I wished we could have seen with the planned Ghost Rider show that never happened. Ugh.

I own the first season of Daredevil and I know that S2 and the first season of Jessica Jones are available. These might just be European/German releases though.

Luke Cage just got really good in my opinion and I would have loved to see this version of Bullseye. Even if D+ revives the shows, I feel like it would be a very sanitized version of these characters.

Yeah, I own the first seasons of Jessica Jones and Daredevil on DVD/Bluray, but I wished that they'd released the rest of them because it's bullshit that you have to be beholden to streaming services in order to view something that you should be able to pay for an individual show.

Even if D+ revives the shows, I feel like it would be a very sanitized version of these characters.

My thoughts exactly. I can't imagine these shows on D+ without censoring some bits of it, since Marvel has become synonymous with being "family friendly" thanks to Disney so, y'know, whether the shows will appear on D+ censored or the characters revived on their MCU D+ shows but just sanitized versions of their Netflix selves, I just really, really don't want MCU to touch them. They were fine on their own, doing their own thing, existing in their own stories, without getting mixed up with anything MCU related, and to erase those journeys just to make them appear in their MCU-based content is not what I want of them, at all.

I plan on re-watching The Hobbit films over my winter break next week :D

I will give the new show a chance and I hope I will like it!

I don't think I've rewatched the last one, Battle of the Five Armies, in a long time because it's too painful. :(

I keep meaning to go back to Jessica Jones as I've only watched the first season. I guess I'll take to the high seas unless Disney+ gets to own them all.

I've found I like the convenience of streaming but if I like a show I've gone back to buying DVDs (and also CDs) now as I don't like the fact that a company can just stop airing a show whenever they want.

I didn't realize the new LotR was even airing, oops. I'm not a huge fan of Tolkien so it wasn't one I was likely to watch anyway. I guess that makes the fan drama more fun ;)

I like the convenience of streaming too, but the downsides are unfortunately it means less likely a show will end up on DVD/Bluray, or if they do it'll be difficult to find. I don't like that many companies are holding media hostage like this. I want to buy a show or movie I love and actually own it physically rather than a service that can just disappear at any moment, or have those shows/movies disappear from the service at any moment for whatever reason. Phasing out physical media in favor of everything going digital/streaming instead of having both coexist is a bad idea in the long run.

It hasn't aired yet, but it will soon, there's only been teasers for it and already people are having fits. Some understandably so, others are just being stupid (ex: people being racist because there are non-white actors portraying elves and dwarves). I'm more casual with Tolkien stuff myself, so while I have no interest in watching this new show the wankstorm is going to be delicious, no doubt.

It kind of feels like no one at the top has realized why pirating was such a thing in the first place. If you hold media hostage of course people are going to want to find ways to watch it. I've had multiple times where I've wanted to buy something and haven't been able to do so. It's frustrating when I want to support a show or film and there isn't an option for that.

Exactly. And it's so backwards like, I would be giving them money by purchasing that movie/show directly, and by having both the option of streaming and buying DVD/Blurays that should be an obvious win-win. But apparently everything has to be strictly digital nowadays, and only on specific streaming services which not everyone can afford and not everyone has access to (ex: different countries don't have certain services available to them). It's so frustrating.

The regional stuff is so ridiculous. We can stream things instantly but we can't work out having contracts that open content up to the world?

Also the affording piece. I don't even know how many streaming services there are now but I sure can't afford all of them. Nor could I watch enough content on each of them each month to justify paying for them every month. One big reason people were moving away from cable was that the prices were going up so high each month and while sometimes companies were promising a la carte options with choosing channels they often made it the worst possible choices so you wound up needing to pick several packages that didn't leave you better off from having the whole thing anyway.

Now having tons of monthly streaming services to pick from starts to become the same problem.

I had no idea there were even so many Marvel shows. I don't watch any; I really don't watch much of anything as it airs, because I don't like waiting. uwu;; But most of the shows I've never even heard of! And they're already cancelled! ;;x;; I thought Disney already owned everything, though. I can't keep ownership straight when certain characters are owned by someone else but the series or title is owned by someone else... There are always ways to find a show or movie if you don't have a subscription to the specific service, though. Small favor. It would be easier to just buy DVDs.

I also didn't even know the LotR show was out. It kind of interested me, but I can totally wait until the fandom heat dies down...

=^..^=~

These days I don't really watch something unless it's finished (or nearly finished), though sometimes I cannot help it if I get sucked into something that is ongoing. But yeah, there was quite a handful of non-MCU Marvel shows that were on different networks for some years until most recently when the whole Disney/Marvel merger and the creation of D+ happened and ownership claims and such, and these things were all cancelled because of it. It sucks, because it left a lot of these shows either on cliffhangers or not really getting the chance to finish their stories that were just beginning, and I'm very, very bitter about it.

The show isn't out yet, it'll officially premiere at the end of 2022. It's only teaser images and a teaser trailer was released, but already people are not happy about what they see, and understandably so for the most part.

I'm sure there is much more to it than I realize or want to acknowledge, but if there's a successful show that's part of a brand that's been bought and is moved, I'd want to buy that show, too. More profits. Less fan angst. (Give the people what they want!)

Oh, then I think I've seen a trailer or something very short. Just enough for me to notice and be like "Oh, hey. A Lord of the Rings show." It didn't look so bad to me, but what I remember is like a wide-angle distance shot of a dude riding a horse. That's it. Pretty scenery.

People were really upset with the first images of Sonic, and the movie was changed. Maybe that can happen with this, too. Cost even more ridiculous money. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯
