Frak this.
May. 11th, 2018 11:44 amBrooklyn Nine-Nine was cancelled.
This was announced yesterday and it created such a universal outrage from people that even famous celebrities like Mark Hamill and Lin-Manuel Miranda were twitting their displeasure of the show being cancelled, and want the show to be renewed in any possible way. And not only has there been fan petitions but it's been reported that there are multiple networks are looking to save the show from the claws of cancellation, which is amazing. In truth yes, it had five sold seasons which, on FOX, is such a rarity and a damn miracle if you can make it past one season, but the way that FOX treated the show was horrible since they barely promoted it, and the only reason it got the loyal following it does was through word of mouth by people begging others to watch the show because it was so good. I want to hope that somehow B99 gets renewed elsewhere because it deserves at least two more seasons.
I also just found out today that Syfy has cancelled The Expanse. And right in the middle of their still airing third season. Just, the fucking audacity. It's been reported that it's being shopped around for a new home which I hope it succeeds in doing so, but still. The Expanse is such a brilliant and amazing scifi show, probably one of the best scifis I've watched in recent years, and them letting it go for whatever reason? Frak that nonsense.
I understand that it's the nature of the business which is run by numbers, I'm no stranger when it comes to my shows being unjustly cancelled before their time, but I will never understand the reasoning behind cancelling shows that not only have strong loyal fanbases, but are also critically acclaimed and are extremely well-reviewed, highly rated and been praised by nearly everyone. It just makes no sense to me. Both Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Expanse are such important shows because they feature some of the best storytelling; their writing is impeccable, they both feature diversity among their main cast (and with The Expanse their entire cast is made up of varying ethnic backgrounds that aren't white), amazing character development, and just are so good in their own right and yet this shit happens. It's nothing new to lose a show to shitty network decisions, but it still hurts and enrages me all the same.
So please, sign and share these petitions in hopes to have both these amazing shows a new home.

Date: 2018-05-11 08:19 pm (UTC)And you're absolutely right, B99 could easily go on for several more seasons and never get tired or boring or rehash anything. They've managed five solid seasons without faltering, and I can foresee them going on for five seasons more with bringing in more hilarity and heartwarming moments and character developments. It's just that good. And when you consider other shows that have gone on for seasons, probably longer than they needed to, yet still get renewed, it makes no sense for an actually good show to not get the same treatment.
And with The Expanse being based on a book series, they clearly are able to tell more with the main story. Though I think they kind of knew that it would've been a possibility that they might not actually be able to complete telling the entirety of the book series (there's like, seven books out so far from a nine book series, I think? so even that is not completed), but I would still like them to at least finish telling the story they're doing in the show, like another couple of seasons or so in order to finish the storyline.
Besides, The Expanse is something I recently discovered and it's such excellent scifi, something I haven't seen since Dark Matter. And for Syfy to cancel both of them is a damn travesty.
I mean, 20gayteen is still going fairly well, but I mean. *still* :/
I know what you mean. Both shows have featured LGBT characters and it's severely disappointing when networks cancel shows that have that kind of representation.

Date: 2018-05-12 06:50 am (UTC)I only properly got into The Expanse since uuuh, this year? Ened of last year? I'm a little unsure when I got back to watching it xD, when I was catching up on it before s3 was airing. With some shows, I don't get into them right away, but I might at a later point. And it is so good atm! I cannot believe I didn't properly appreciate Avasarala back in s1. She's amazing, and such a badass. <3
I agree. First DM, now Expanse? :( I get that they're expensive, but meh. I selfishly don't care, and just want them to keep their good space shows.
Yeah. Especially when shows have *just* made their shows more (obviously) gay, like both Dark Matter and The Expanse did.
At least b99 got uncancelled! I just saw the news on twitter (just a tweet from Stephanie Beatriz, but she's all the source I need :D). That was pretty darn fast! Bit of a wild ride, but that may be the fastest uncancellation out of the uncancellations I know of. *nods* Bit impressive. But, with all the people being annoyed by it, and showing their love (including a whole bunch of actors/stars), it makes perfect sense. A network saw the potential, and they went for it. Fox's loss. *sticks tongue at at Fox*
