I agree with a lot of this, especially Paul. I didn't care for him for a long time, but his ending still really broke my heart.

Yeah, I felt conflicted about his character most of the time until his final episode, which is sad but at the same time really makes you appreciate the compelling nature of how they wrote him, making you question his motives and what side he really was on. It makes rewatching the episodes really interesting. I also really appreciated him returning briefly in the flashback S4 premiere episode where we see him and Beth together and how they actually interacted, etc.
