Ever since Fantastic Beasts I have become quite a Colin Farrell fan, to the point of being excited about his upcoming projects. First it was The Beguiled, and now he has two new films that will be released soon.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer is the second film Colin has done with director Yorgos Lanthimos. The first was The Lobster, which was an absurdist black comedy where in a dystopian world where being single is illegal and one must have a limited amount of days to find a compatible mate or be permanently turned into an animal of their choosing. Just from that description alone you can tell that Yorgos has a intriguingly twisted yet unique mind when it comes to his films. But while that film was a dark comedy, The Killing of a Sacred Deer is a twisted psychological horror, which I remember Colin noting a while ago that this one is even more fucked up and disturbing. I haven't read much about the film aside from the basic description, but just from watching the trailers you can tell immediately that it is going to be uncomfortable and chilling. Yorgos Lanthimos films aren't for everyone, but I will definitely see this at some point.

Also, Colin with that magnificent beard? Serving up those dad looks? Yes please.

The second film coming out soon is Roman J. Israel, Esq., where he co-stars with Denzel Washington. Again, a film I only know basic information about, but apparently Colin has a much bigger role in the film than what the trailer suggests. I will most definitely watch this because he just looks so damn fine in it.

He also has other projects coming up for a possibly 2018 release, Widows where he plays a politician, and the live action Dumbo (yes, really) where he plays a one-armed soldier who just came back from the war and is the father of two children who were raised by the circus. I'm not always up for these Disney live action adaptations, but honestly when he plays tormented/broken characters like this and will be all fatherly I will most likely be somewhat interested because of that.

And since I will never let it go, someone made a petition a while back to have Colin return for the rest of the Fantastic Beasts film franchise, preferably as the original Percival Graves because there is so much left to explore with his character. While I do prefer the fandom interpretation and headcanons for him more and don't really trust JKR to do him justice in a way that makes sense, it would be wonderful to see him back in the role nonetheless, and play the character proper. Colin's performance was probably the best part of the first film, he was the reason I wanted to watch it in the first place, and is the reason why this resurgence even happened.

I'd heard about Killing of the Sacred Deer, but didn't know he was in it.

I hadn't heard about Dumbo at all. I think that's gonna be a tearjerker for sure.

I really hope they bring him back in Fantastic Beasts. I get not having him back as a main character throughout, but I think in at least the third movie, they should bring his character back, to both explore his character and for the Grindlewald insight he can probably provide.

lol. I mentioned to Mom it was like the internet suddenly realized Colin Farrell was attractive and talented. She laughed and said she'd known that for years "he was just so unstable that no one really paid any attention to that" and she was glad he seemed to be doing well in his personal life as well.

I remember Colin talking about the script months ago and saying that it was darker and even more fucked up than The Lobster, which really captured my interest. Colin and Yorgos are quite an interesting pair, and I do hope that he continues working with him in the future.

I did kind of facepalm when I saw Colin's name attached....but given his character description I'm rather curious as how this will turn out.

but I think in at least the third movie, they should bring his character back, to both explore his character and for the Grindlewald insight he can probably provide.

YES PLEASE. There is just so much potential to his character. Like, why did Grindelwald choose him specifically? How did they cross paths? Was their a duel? What other information can Percival give them about Grindelwald and what he has planned, if anything at all? FBAWTFT was a decent film overall, but there were so many plot holes and unexplained answers to why Grindelwald came there underneath a guise of a well respected Auror and authority figure within MACUSA, someone we know absolutely nothing about. So honestly, I just want to know more about the real Percival Graves, who he is as a person, etc. Since we only got barely anything just based on Grindelwald's impersonation of him.

(And let's be honest, Colin looked amazing in that role and I feel like he would knock it out of the park again as the real Percival Graves, especially if there was more of an emotional in depth introspection of him.)

"he was just so unstable that no one really paid any attention to that"

That just really makes me sad. Whenever someone comments about how he was a former "bad boy" in Hollywood, like in a lighthearted dismissal way, I get depressed because that wasn't the reality of his situation. Based on the knowledge I know he was more self-destructive than anything else, which he has commented on his past self not being in a good place. But, I am glad that he has been doing better for himself, getting sober and clean, living a healthier lifestyle and basically becoming a better person for himself and his sons. He has even done better doing indie films and more smaller yet intimate roles than big action blockbuster movies Hollywood tried to force him to star in. Colin has made a comeback in a different but important way and I'm so proud of him. ❤
