In light of the 20th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I got to thinking about what other reunions I would love to see, and miraculously it seems that there will be a Battlestar Galactica reunion soon! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

While their 20th anniversary is still a ways away, I kinda still want there to be a resurgence of BSG merchandise since most places that used to have some things aren't available anymore, and if there it's only a few. I mean, there's going to be new BTVS merch because of their anniversary, and things like Firefly have been going strong in the market for years, but somehow BSG, a critically acclaimed successful science fiction series somehow doesn't. I know it's all about timely popularity and supply and demand and all of that, but I'm positive that the fandom would be all over new merchandising. But that's just my personal gripe at the moment. Mostly because I just want and need more BSG stuff because I'm kicking myself that I didn't take full advantage to get the things I wanted when they were still available.

Oh wow, that reunion sounds great! I wouldn't expect anything near the same level of celebrations for BSG's 20th anniversary though, alas. For whatever reason, it's just not as popular/its fandom doesn't seem to be as obsessed or enduring. It's actually a real pet peeve of mine, the way I go to my local convention every year and there is almost no BSG merch, almost no BSG costumes, ans there has yet to be a guest who was on BSG, with all the random sci-fi fandoms that have been included. And it's not just a matter of how long ago the show was, since I would see Harry Potter stuff for instance (even before the new play and FB). *sigh* Such a shame.

I know what you mean, I've noticed this too over the years. It seemed that after the show ended the fandom gradually drizzled and faded away, maybe not entirely but it definitely got quieter than how it once was. Even on Tumblr it seems to be a much smaller fandom compared to the other fandoms that circulate on there. It's bizarre because BSG was one of the most praised scifi shows, hell many of the actors have appeared on The 100 (which has been compared to BSG, funnily enough). You'd think that there would've been a resurgence of the show based on that alone.

I know the fandom still exists, it's just they've moved onto other things and perhaps if there is a reunion of sorts celebrating how revolutionary the show was when it premiered and how influential it continues to be for scifi today, perhaps it might cause for the appropriate resurgence it deserves? IDK. I just desperately want it to be.

(Also, the only merchandise that I've seen BSG related as of late are the Pop Figures, but those are only three characters -- Head!Six, Kara and a Cylon Centurion -- and none of the others, which I feel is desperately needed.)

I've been meaning to get into BSG for years. Maybe this is the final push I need.

Are you more a fan of the original or the (apparently really good) reboot?

I've only ever seen, and am a huge fan of, the re-imagined version. I never saw the original series.

The new BSG is absolutely phenomenal, in every way possible. The casting, the performances, the special effects, the music, the story, everything. It is, in my opinion, the very definition of high quality storytelling and is definitely among my top five favorite shows of all time. Hands down, no contest. I mean, I am biased because I love it so much, but y'know, there is a reason why it was so successful. I highly recommend it whenever you get the chance to sit down and watch it (from the miniseries to all four seasons, plus the two telemovies and the two prequels, Caprica and Blood & Chrome).

I loved Buffy so much. It's crazy that has been already 20 years.

It kinda makes me feel rather old, in a way. I got into BTVS during its third season and I remember when the series finale aired. It was probably my first big major fandom that I participated in. To have it be twenty years since it first premiered is just so surreal.

Oooh BSG reunion!

I would love to see more of them. The show was fantastic and you're right, merch would sell. Firefly merch sells because it's out there. It has to be available in order for it to sell. I wish more shows would just have cool things available.

Exactly. I feel like the merchandise started dwindling away after the show ended, but I think if they started up again, especially after a reunion of sorts or celebration of its legacy, it will most likely end up selling pretty well. Because something has to be there in order to sell, y'know?

Availability of merchandise always strikes me as kind of strange. Presumably, if X gets popular enough, then your can have merchandise that goes on forever long past its end- see Star Wars, and the entire Expanded Universe that arose after the first six movies. And sure, I get that sitting in a warehouse somewhere isn't helpful, but on the other hand, people would want it even in small amounts?
