Asked by [livejournal.com profile] favoritexrecord:

What books have you read this year? Or, what books do you plan on reading this year?

So far this year I have read a couple of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens tie-in novelizations, including the Rey's Survival Guide which is absolutely adorable with all the little tidbits and drawings. And with other things, As Red As Blood by Salla Simukka, which I'm hoping to get to the next one of the series, As White As Snow. Aside from those, as I mentioned before I'm a slow reader but I am making my way through the books I have wanted to read for a while.

I'm making it a goal this year to make time to read more books instead of just fanfiction, and not just before I go to bed either, which is my preferred reading time for anything.

I lose a lot of sleep reading fanfiction before bed. It's such a hard habit to break.

Same, especially if it's long multi-chaptered ones.

I find it funny that with fanfiction I can read several of them in a day, but I have to find time to actually pick up a book that I'm currently reading.

I'm the same way. I spend more time planning to read books than actually reading them. One solution I have is to take one for my daily commute.

The Survival Guide was adorable...although I also recommend Sabine: My Rebel Sketchbook which was first and made more sense using the same format.

I hate how some things in the Survival Guide seemed to be contradicted in other books like everyone else describes all of Jakku as desolate but I liked the idea of the Happabores having a moment of splashy bliss at the end of the line at paradise.

Although the Rucka books are still my favorite of the TFA tie-ins.

I prefer reading right before bed too - and I should probably start going to bed an extra hour earlier as a result of that. :P

It's a pretty good motivator to try and sleep earlier too, since more often than not I end up drooping while reading books in bed (not so much while reading fic, however that could be because of the brightness of the screen....)

Yeah, that's true. Though I read on my kindle fire (it's more comfortable than a paperback and the lamp at a weird angle)... so.

Reading fanfic at night is a habit I think a lot of us fangirls have, and for me, the multi-chapter ones are particularly addicting. And if it's one I get really into, before I know it, it's 2am and I'm like... whoops? lol

Yep. It's a dangerous thing, and I could just read it during the daytime but there is something so convenient about just lying down in bed scrolling through your Kindle and just reading a long multi-chaptered fic as your bedtime story.

Sounds like you've read some good books so far! =)

I always read during my lunch breaks at work, but I want to try to get into reading before going to bed. When I used to do it it helped me wind down and get to sleep easier.

I'm similar, which is probably why when I end up reading a book before bed I don't get so far than a few pages or so, because it helps me relax and I feel myself starting to drift off. lol
