++ There are still days available for the monthly questions meme. Both new and old friends can join in, so if you haven't submitted you still can!

++ First look at the Desolation of Smaug extended edition DVD. I am ridiculously excited for this, probably more than I should be, but I've been waiting for the extended version in this film ever since I saw it in theaters. (◕‿◕✿) The only downside is that I have to wait until November, but at least once it arrives it will soothe the ache for the third and final movie the month after.

++ My ways of watching shows has drastically changed over the years. Before I used to like watching shows live, know the schedule in which they appeared in, and if the two overlapped I would record one and watch the other. Nowadays I find I just don't have that amount of energy anymore. I think having more options for watching things has helped in that department for allowing me to catch up on my own time. I also prefer binge watching shows, especially new shows, rather than waiting a week (or longer) between episodes. For my main shows I will try to watch weekly, but with others I'm willing to wait until I can marathon them straight through, even if it sometimes means they will remain on my queue for a while which unfortunately will set me back to catching up on a show that is still going. But I'm surprisingly okay with that.

I'm trying to get more into binge watching shows too, because I also prefer that - I just find it really hard to wait for most shows! But when new shows come along, unless I'm super excited for them, I try to wait. Binge watching really is so much fun though; I'm really glad I binge-watched Merlin, or I don't think I would've liked it as much as I did.

There are definitely shows that I wouldn't have stuck with had I not marathoned them straight through first. Sometimes there needs to be a natural flow with certain stories instead of waiting a week for each one, never mind those endless hiatuses.

I also understand the frustration of waiting, especially since there are so many people talking about it and you want to be part of that conversation too. But I feel like the wait is worth it. Like right now I'm waiting for Outlander to finish so I can binge watch that.

Yeah, I'm waiting on Outlander, too. I find it easier to wait on shows with a shorter episode run - I guess because I don't have to wait as long.

I hate waiting for shows these days. It also tends to ruin the flow of the show, you know? (there were way to many rhymes in that sentence, haha) I love waiting until they finish the season, marathon, and then rewatch before the next season.

I think the amount of hiatuses networks have also ruin that flow, as well. It's gotten to the point where it's just ridiculous, and many shows suffer from it unfortunately. It can be quite frustrating.

Good lord, there's an extended version? Oh, of course there is--it's still LOTR, after all. It's just . . . there's an extended version??!?

Still--Moar Dragon! I hope there is Moar Dragon. I am always in support of Moar Dragon.

Isn't it fantastic? At least twenty-five minutes worth. :) I'm happy because after seeing the production diaries and promotional stuff, I know they shot scenes that didn't make it to the theatrical version. So I'm really happy that we're finally going to be able to see it.

I am so excited for the extended version! I didn't realize it was getting released so soon, that is awesome!

Binge watching is way better! I find some shows aren't as good if you watch them week to week. There's actually a few that I really loved but when I had to wait a week to watch new episodes I kind of just dropped them. The only time I watch them when they air is when I have a high likelihood of being spoiled for it now. It's just better.

I'm just super excited for everything, with this along with what will be coming out for the promotional stuff for BOTFA. I'm in a constant state of being scared/excited/not knowing what to feel because I'm continually being IN UTTER DENIAL about the third being the final film.

Yeah, when you have a lot of shows, eventually there will be moments when you have to play catch-up because you've fallen behind and I just think it's kind of exhausting doing that. So why not just wait until the season is finished to just binge on it? It's better and you're in control of when you watch it, instead of it being the other way around.

I am totally with you there! They've done such a fantastic job making the book into movies! The book is pretty awesome, but the movies add a certain depth that just makes me care about everyone so much more! I am complete denial over things that are supposed to happen in the film.

Especially since broadcasting companies love to do those wonderful hiatuses. Oh we were just on hiatus for over a month? Here's one episode and another two week hiatus then another episode and a week hiatus. It just ruins the flow and the story telling so much.

Tolkien's world is so rich that I'm grateful they extended The Hobbit to three films to allow this story to unfold and to get attached to these characters. The downside, of course, is getting so attached that in the final film it'll be heartwrenching. Of course I figure that's the point, lol.

Here's one episode and another two week hiatus then another episode and a week hiatus. It just ruins the flow and the story telling so much.

For real, and worse is when a show will have those filler episodes or "sweep" episodes in between those times. That's when the flow of everything gets ruined, imo. It's ridiculous.

I know I love a show when I watch it the next day on Hulu. I cut the cable cord awhile ago and have not looked back but if I actually know what day a show airs, it's important. Otherwise the hulu emails remind me of its existence lol.

Sometimes I forget when a show is airing until I am notified from the people on Tumblr when a new episode is airing, lol.

I can't remember when I last watched an episode live on the television. I rarely watch the TV anymore except for movies that are on and programs that I use as background noise.

The last thing you mention, about how you've changed your ways of watching TV... that's pretty much me now. And to be honest? Marathons are really nice. Of course, I wouldn't wait for things like Game of Thrones, but there are a few that I don't mind waiting for.

Ah binge watching... Sometimes I prefer it because you have all of it bunched together but I also feel like when I watch stuff that way it just doesn't stick with me as long unless I watch it more than once.

These past few years I've gotten really bad at watching shows week to week, I'm always falling behind and then just binge-watching on DVD. I do prefer watching that way, but at the same time I'm trying to get back into keeping up with the episodes as they air this year, just because I feel like I've been missing out on being able to discuss episode reactions with other fans

I'm with you on television watching. I used to have a schedule set and watched things when they aired. But now I love binge watching something, totally being absorbed in that world and then going on to the next thing. I keep current with some shows that I know my friends watch and I'll get spoiled for if I don't but most things I watch as I get to them.

I'm excited for the extended version of Desolation of Smaug as well :) Looking forward to some more glimpses of Middle-Earth.

Binge watching shows is really the best (but also draining...) and some shows are better when veiwed that way. Waiting a week between episodes is just a bore, bhere are some shows I know I won't be able to wait with.

I'm the very same with watching; keeping up live with my regular shows but binging pretty much else, especially new stuff.

I imagine the evolution of how show availability also makes it a lot easier to binge or catch up on shows. That, and everyone seems to be busy and it is just a lot easier to be able to watch things on your own time instead of trying to keep to their weekly schedule.

Plus, there's some shows that are arguably better binged than actually watched.
