rogueslayer452Doctor Who 7.04 "The Power of Three"
This episode was simply delightful. I loved every second of it.
It was also incredibly heartbreaking because of what we know will happen in the next episode, which will be our beloved Ponds last.
Here we have Amy and Rory settling into their lives, their lives when they aren't with the Doctor. Months go by without them hearing from him and they go about their normal, everyday lives until the Doctor suddenly shows up unexpectedly and whisks them away to another crazy, unpredictable adventure. But here is where we see the Ponds contemplating stopping and just living their lives. One of the most heartbreaking moments was with the Doctor and Amy talking about just that. On one hand we have Amy saying that she feels like she's running away from having a life outside of the Doctor, but then the Doctor says that he's running to the Ponds because he doesn't want them to fade out of his life. It's something I've been saying all this time, that both Eleven and Amy and Rory have been with each other literally their entire lives; Amy and Rory since their childhood, and the Doctor since his regeneration. He wants them to live fully, to be safe but he also wants them to be with him at the same time. And that, to me, is heartbreaking in and of itself.
There were a lot of things in this episode that I appreciated, because it brings up a lot of things about why the Doctor continues to return to the Ponds, why the Ponds are torn between these two worlds, and the concern over everything.
Because as there were lighthearted moments, there were moments that really detailed why all of these things are important.
The Doctor doesn't want to be lonely, but he also doesn't want Amy and Rory's lives to be screwed up. He wants things to be finally be right, that he would have done right by them, and everything will be okay. He is trying to convince himself of this, and the more I think about it the more heartbreaking it is because we know something is gonna happen and we know that it will devastate the Doctor. The Ponds are his best friends, his family, and he knows that he cannot let them go before he knows for sure that they are alright, and just thinking about it makes my heart hurt.
I JUST HAVE A LOT OF EMOTIONS ABOUT THIS OKAY. I CAN'T HELP BUT LOVE THE PONDS AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE DOCTOR AND HOW THEY ARE SUCH AN IMPORTANT PART OF HIS LIFE AND VICE VERSA AND THE FACT WE GOT ONE MORE EPISODE WITH THEM AND THEN THEY'RE GONE FOREVER IS JUST BREAKING MY HEART SO MUCH. ;___; LIKE, WHY. WHY DID WE GET THIS EPISODE NOW. THEY WERE EATING FISH FINGERS AND CUSTARD TOGETHER! THEY WERE BEING ALL HAPPY AND HAVING ADVENTURES AND AMY AND RORY BEING ADORABLY MARRIED AND THE DOCTOR MISSING THEM AND WANTING TO STAY WITH THEM AND JUST, UGH. NO. THIS IS NOT ALRIGHT. THIS IS ALL OMINOUS FORESHADOWING AND IT JUST HURTS OKAY.
Also, after this episode I am fully convinced that my previous theories and predictions regarding the fate of the Ponds might actually be true. I can't see it going any other way at this point to be honest, not after all the foreshadowing that has been happening this season, never mind with the preview for next week's episode. Just, yeah.
