Petition Against New Recent Changes On LiveJournal

Because this is some fucked up bullshit right here.

I didn't become a paid member so the most simplistic features would become complicated and that the entire LJ staff would ignore everyone's concerns and input, or even allow our input or consulting with us before making these ridiculous changes. Sign the petition and also let them know in this post here.

They completely changed the comments. It's all detailed in the petition and the LJ release page I linked above, but basically they fucked everything up and everyone is angry as hell about it. As they (we) should be. >:|

I have over 100 icons, it takes longer than necessary when with text I could just click and be done with it. And with other features, well, for others it screws up their layouts, and you can't comment with a subject title now and it's just.....completely unnecessary and useless and the fact that they never consulted us or even made it an option for us to choose makes it even more enraging.

We don't take change well, but this goes beyond fucked up to where this happened just an hour ago and already there's over 1,000 comments in the news feed post and a petition. People are pissed and hopefully the LJ staff will listen.

If not, they will start losing their customers fast.

Oh, and the expanding feature to see a thread of comments is ridiculous, complicated and unnecessary.

Basically, too much unnecessary changes that didn't improve anything. Just create more problems and too many angry users. I mean, this shit is ugly as fuck and I am livid that they think it's okay to change shit that doesn't need to be messed with (when they could be doing other things that actually need improvement.)

Well, that's fine if you do. But I don't.

Hopefully with the number of outraged people voicing their opinions on this matter to the staff, they will change it back. I would rather they have this setting be an option so that if you like it you can use it, and for people who don't can remain how it used to be. I remember years ago when they changed the layout for the entirety of the site and people weren't happy with it, but they allowed people to use the older layout setting if they so choose to.

UGH, this is SUCH bullshit! I had to change back to a custom comment page because this new one is just SO icky! And now I can't even choose my own darn icon without DRAMA. If they don't fix this crap, I'll probably be heading on over to DW and dusting off that account :(

UGH I KNOW. EVERYTHING IS SO UGLY NOW.

Aesthetic appeal aside, the features and unnecessarily more complicated and it's not because "you gotta get used to it" but more of a "why fix shit when it wasn't broken?" THIS DIDN'T IMPROVE ANYTHING! JUST MADE YOUR CUSTOMERS MORE ANGRY AND SOME TAKING THEIR BAGS AND LEAVING TO DREAMWIDTH AND/OR TUMBLR.

Ugh, IKR?! Like, I really don't want to leave LJ because I'm comfortable here and I just feel like it'd be such a chore to have to switch everything over to DW and build my entire flist again but...idk...I guess we'll see if the LJ big-wigs listen to us and change things back.

I'm hoping they will, because it wasn't two hours before the comments on their lj release post reached over 2,000 comments (and it's still growing!) I mean that won't guarantee they'll listen -- they have HUGE communication problems with their users and always will -- but I think it's bound to get attention considering it's the biggest record of getting that many people pissed off in the shortest amount of time.

I know. It was only changed like a little over an hour ago. People are IN RAGE and I hope the staff sees and acknowledges it before changing it back.

They should have realized it from when people were upset about the subject line thing a week ago.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME

UGLY SHIT IS UGLY

ALSO TAKES FUCKING FOREVER TO DO ANYTHING AT ALL JFC

i foresee a mass migration to dreamwidth, if nothing happens.

I'm hoping they change it back soon before that happens, but already people are migrating there anyway. Or they have migrated there since I've seen a massive decline in LJ posts from friends over the year because of the fucked up bullshit the site has been experiencing (mostly due to the DOS attacks, but this shit has no excuse)

IT'S NOT EVEN NICE TO LOOK AT. IT'S FUCKING AWFUL TO LOOK AT.

Seriously, the redesign is almost ... juvenile. I guess they were trying to go for something all flashy and Web 2.0 to compete with Facebook and Twitter, but it didn't work out for them. Instead it looks basic, has shot all functionality and organization and NAVIGABILITY to hell, and to top it all off, they did it without their users' consent, so it's yet another in a long stream of bullshit changes they've made that no one has actually wanted. LJ, damn it, I like the content and connectivity and community you foster, so why can't you just be quiet with your attempts at style and let your users make your site awesome with their SUBSTANCE.

I HATE THE NEW FONT AND HOW POSTS LOOK AND COMMENTS AND THE LINKING AND JUST EW. EWWWWW. EWWWWWW!

It really is basic as hell, and perhaps it was going for the flashy "LET'S LOOK LIKE ALL THE OTHER SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES BECAUSE WE NEED MORE CLIENTELE!" which yeah, fuck you assholes. This shit is ugly as fuck, it's complicated and not even worth changing because there's a REASON why many prefer this site other the other sites that have basic and cheap looking features. Just, no. >:/

OMG I HATE IT SO MUCH!!!! I've signed and left a comment. And I am going to repost your post to my journal because I like the way it looks and it's straight to the point <3

What's interesting is that your journal is completely normal, the way it used to be. I just went there and I'm like OMG I MISS THIS VERSION SO MUCH BRING IT BACK! :(

What people are finding out is you just have to enable customized comment pages (so the comment pages are the layouts pages instead of what to be a simpler black and white page).

Also, a fix that's being passed along kink memes is this:
http://stardustcities.tumblr.com/post/14556936645/a-subject-line-fix-for-livejournal-kink-memes

It's another layout style that has comment pages that looks like the old one.

Hopefully LJ actually listens to the thousands of complaints and fixes things. The new comment pages are so ugly but I would be willing to deal with them if they could reinstate subject lines and make it where icons can be picked by keywords again. (okay no not really, they are so ugly and it actually takes longer to load thread now).

Edit - and the picking icons thing DOESN'T EVEN WORK!!! I've tried to pick specific icons to use and each time it's my default. Urgh.

DO. NOT. WANT.

This is one of the many reasons why I am not renewing my paid account, ever.

I'm going to see if they're going to fix it. If not, if they give a flimsy lame excuse, then I am going to revoke my paid account.

I'm on Tumblr more these days anyway, lol

As I only have some icons, it doesn't take too long for the icon thing to load but I can imagine the pain with a lot of them. *hugs*

LJ comment pages now totally look like shit. Though, I suppose an argument might be made that it'll be easier for people with reading difficulties to access the website? Idk?

Prefer it the way it was though (and I think it was still fairly accessable then)

Yeah, I have over 100 icons and it's not alphabetically organized, so it makes things harder to locate and I just hate it. I hate everything about this change and what sucks is how it just happened and already I am stressed out via holiday madness as it is just, ugh. :/

They really do look like shit. Everything is shitty. IDK what was so complicated with the older version. STOP TRYING TO IMPROVE THINGS THAT DON'T NEED TO BE IMPROVED! YOU JUST CREATE MORE ISSUES AND IT DOES NOBODY ANY GOOD, GODDAMMIT. >:|

Amen to everything in this comment. I don't get it. If people haven't asked for an update or complained about issues with the old stuff, why change it so drastically? I suppose they have to justify keeping staff on but seriously.... no me gusta.

I like the userpics thing, though I would prefer it if they do it alphabetically instead of the order of when I upload a new userpic. If they make it alphabetically, I can can easily find the userpic I want instead of scrolling up and down. While the link, insert photo & video is useful since I don't need to type the HTML codes, I wish they'd keep the previous features. Just add these new things but don't get rid of the rest. IDK, combine both?

LJ really needs to do a beta test instead of implementing a change like that and expect people to rejoice because whenever they do that, people end up raging about it.

THIS.

They need better communication with their users. They've just been assuming things and making decisions like this on a whim and thinking they're "improving" things that people would like when instead they are just creating more problems, more complications for themselves and making people feel like LJ isn't secure anymore and that their concerns don't mean shit. I never have had issues with this site until the most recent years. Like, there were a few things but none as frequent as it has been and it's just starting to really get on my nerves. Never mind how some of the maintainers of the site just have this condescending and passive-aggressive attitude when it comes to addressing people's concerns.

If anything else, they need to make these new features an option or have a voting of some kind.

(Although what's interesting is that I went to another person's journal and theirs seems to be unaffected by this change, something about their theme or whatever as it was completely the same as before, but obviously it'll be affected elsewhere and everywhere else so idk what this means but I'm hoping they fix it)

I don't understand why they can't just test their new features out first before implementing it. You'd think they'd learn from previous attempts and know better but it doesn't seem to sink into their heads.

I think this only affects us who don't choose to use the layout's customised comment page. It will mostly affects communities and some of us who use the default comment page layout.

Yes, I'm using custom comments now, even though I hate them, just for the icon list and the 'preview comment.' It's all just bright colours and unnecessary noise, with most of the functionality taken away.

Why do they have to change simple things into complex designs that take forever to load with my crappy internet connection? I'm glad I deleted most of my icons that would just make this worse, lol.

I've been thinking about not renewing my paid account and it's things like these that make me more certain of it.

It isn't effecting me personally, at least not yet. The style I have on my journal is one that keeps the old-style comments, so I just keep everything I look at in my style (?syle=mine).

I hate that LJ keeps messing with things that aren't broken, though. I mean, I like some of the new features (not having to add in codes for comments), but some of this stuff is pointless. And with the subject thing, it turns out that it was because some idiot designer didn't like the way collapsed comments looked with "no subject". Just one person gets to decide for everyone.
