Petition Against New Recent Changes On LiveJournal
Because this is some fucked up bullshit right here.
I didn't become a paid member so the most simplistic features would become complicated and that the entire LJ staff would ignore everyone's concerns and input, or even allow our input or consulting with us before making these ridiculous changes. Sign the petition and also let them know in this post here.

Date: 2011-12-21 08:43 am (UTC)We don't take change well, but this goes beyond fucked up to where this happened just an hour ago and already there's over 1,000 comments in the news feed post and a petition. People are pissed and hopefully the LJ staff will listen.
If not, they will start losing their customers fast.

Date: 2011-12-21 08:47 am (UTC)Aesthetic appeal aside, the features and unnecessarily more complicated and it's not because "you gotta get used to it" but more of a "why fix shit when it wasn't broken?" THIS DIDN'T IMPROVE ANYTHING! JUST MADE YOUR CUSTOMERS MORE ANGRY AND SOME TAKING THEIR BAGS AND LEAVING TO DREAMWIDTH AND/OR TUMBLR.

Date: 2011-12-21 08:50 am (UTC)Basically, too much unnecessary changes that didn't improve anything. Just create more problems and too many angry users. I mean, this shit is ugly as fuck and I am livid that they think it's okay to change shit that doesn't need to be messed with (when they could be doing other things that actually need improvement.)

Date: 2011-12-21 09:16 am (UTC)Seriously, the redesign is almost ... juvenile. I guess they were trying to go for something all flashy and Web 2.0 to compete with Facebook and Twitter, but it didn't work out for them. Instead it looks basic, has shot all functionality and organization and NAVIGABILITY to hell, and to top it all off, they did it without their users' consent, so it's yet another in a long stream of bullshit changes they've made that no one has actually wanted. LJ, damn it, I like the content and connectivity and community you foster, so why can't you just be quiet with your attempts at style and let your users make your site awesome with their SUBSTANCE.

Date: 2011-12-21 11:35 am (UTC)Hopefully with the number of outraged people voicing their opinions on this matter to the staff, they will change it back. I would rather they have this setting be an option so that if you like it you can use it, and for people who don't can remain how it used to be. I remember years ago when they changed the layout for the entirety of the site and people weren't happy with it, but they allowed people to use the older layout setting if they so choose to.

Date: 2011-12-21 11:39 am (UTC)LJ comment pages now totally look like shit. Though, I suppose an argument might be made that it'll be easier for people with reading difficulties to access the website? Idk?
Prefer it the way it was though (and I think it was still fairly accessable then)

Date: 2011-12-21 12:28 pm (UTC)LJ really needs to do a beta test instead of implementing a change like that and expect people to rejoice because whenever they do that, people end up raging about it.

Date: 2011-12-21 12:53 pm (UTC)THIS.
They need better communication with their users. They've just been assuming things and making decisions like this on a whim and thinking they're "improving" things that people would like when instead they are just creating more problems, more complications for themselves and making people feel like LJ isn't secure anymore and that their concerns don't mean shit. I never have had issues with this site until the most recent years. Like, there were a few things but none as frequent as it has been and it's just starting to really get on my nerves. Never mind how some of the maintainers of the site just have this condescending and passive-aggressive attitude when it comes to addressing people's concerns.
If anything else, they need to make these new features an option or have a voting of some kind.
(Although what's interesting is that I went to another person's journal and theirs seems to be unaffected by this change, something about their theme or whatever as it was completely the same as before, but obviously it'll be affected elsewhere and everywhere else so idk what this means but I'm hoping they fix it)

Date: 2011-12-21 12:56 pm (UTC)They really do look like shit. Everything is shitty. IDK what was so complicated with the older version. STOP TRYING TO IMPROVE THINGS THAT DON'T NEED TO BE IMPROVED! YOU JUST CREATE MORE ISSUES AND IT DOES NOBODY ANY GOOD, GODDAMMIT. >:|

Date: 2011-12-21 12:59 pm (UTC)I think this only affects us who don't choose to use the layout's customised comment page. It will mostly affects communities and some of us who use the default comment page layout.

Date: 2011-12-21 01:03 pm (UTC)It really is basic as hell, and perhaps it was going for the flashy "LET'S LOOK LIKE ALL THE OTHER SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES BECAUSE WE NEED MORE CLIENTELE!" which yeah, fuck you assholes. This shit is ugly as fuck, it's complicated and not even worth changing because there's a REASON why many prefer this site other the other sites that have basic and cheap looking features. Just, no. >:/

Date: 2011-12-21 01:16 pm (UTC)Also, a fix that's being passed along kink memes is this:
http://stardustcities.tumblr.com/post/14556936645/a-subject-line-fix-for-livejournal-kink-memes
It's another layout style that has comment pages that looks like the old one.
Hopefully LJ actually listens to the thousands of complaints and fixes things. The new comment pages are so ugly but I would be willing to deal with them if they could reinstate subject lines and make it where icons can be picked by keywords again. (okay no not really, they are so ugly and it actually takes longer to load thread now).
Edit - and the picking icons thing DOESN'T EVEN WORK!!! I've tried to pick specific icons to use and each time it's my default. Urgh.

Date: 2011-12-22 12:26 am (UTC)I hate that LJ keeps messing with things that aren't broken, though. I mean, I like some of the new features (not having to add in codes for comments), but some of this stuff is pointless. And with the subject thing, it turns out that it was because some idiot designer didn't like the way collapsed comments looked with "no subject". Just one person gets to decide for everyone.
