~ Misha on Dean and Cas (Source)
"Now there’s the whole Cas issue. He didn’t get to him in time, he wasn’t able to help him out, to save him. It’s a mound of guilt that has built up on Dean’s shoulders that he carries around with him."
~ Jensen about Dean dealing with Castiel's death/departure (Source)
“I’d take it with me, I’d put it in the trunk of the car, and y’know, I’ll - I’ll take it. Because it’s silly for me - I wouldn’t leave it.”
~ Jensen about the trench coat (Source)
It's slightly reassuring seeing that the actors know more about their characters and the relationships with each other than the actual writers do. I just felt I needed to post these here because despite the fuckery that is happening, the actors know what is up and understand our frustrations, our concerns, and in a sense I feel like if they could take over and do what they feel the characters would do it would be for the better, seeing as how they have a better sense of direction of who these characters are. Like, for example, the interview with Guy Newman Bee talking about what they wanted to do with the trench coat after 7.02 -- Sera Gamble obviously didn't know even after several meetings on the subject, but when asked to Jensen he immediately knew what Dean would do. Like, why should that even be a question? Of course Dean would keep it, there was no other option.

Date: 2011-10-09 05:34 pm (UTC)The show did not need to kill off Castiel. There was no reason for it. They could have kept him on and made him mortal. I honestly believe Misha got screwed out of a job and I'm still very sad about it.
Someone give Misha a job!

Date: 2011-10-09 11:04 pm (UTC)I don't think I'll ever forget that interview, because that just reaffirmed my suspicions that the cast was/is not happy with the arrangement of Misha being demoted and leaving. Jensen seriously looked like he wanted to walk out of that interview or punch the interviewer in the face. It was all sorts of uncomfortable and awkward. :(

According the Gamble it's to further his character, which is impossible to further Castiel's character if he is fucking dead. This was only to bring on more manpain for Dean (and by manpain, I mean him retreating and acting like a total asshole for episodes and episodes until towards the end of the season where they actually deal with what is happening to him, but only briefly, because this show has shitted on character growth at this point....) That's really it, honestly. This had nothing to do with Castiel as a character but using him as a plot device for the Winchesters, mostly for Dean. Because it's all about them, apparently.
Had they actually cared about Castiel as a character they would have allowed him to have his redemption arc. The fact that they are dangling his possible reappearance later in the season -- never mind the threat that this may be their last season -- is unfair and such an insult, tbqh. :/

Date: 2011-10-09 06:57 pm (UTC)I was sooo gratified to read this today.
Not to put a downer on things, I hope, but I don't believe anyone in the show is going to be 'alright in the end'. I wish they could be, could all get a happy ending, but more and more I'm coming to believe that there's no 'darkest before the dawn' sentiment going on in SPN and I'm kind of not okay with that. I'm very okay with the confirmation, as you say, that the actors get it and are pretty much on the same page as those of us who give a damn about keeping faith with the characters.
Thank you

ITA. Then again, I never believed the show would ever end on a happy-note. Which is odd considering that the show isn't as depressing as other shows I have watched that still managed to have happy-endings (or something resembling a satisfactory ending to everything.) But the way the show is presenting itself in the recent seasons it's like no matter what happens there is no happiness for these characters, there is no end to their misery. This could also be considered the show's "security" to go on forever and ever as they like, because no matter what they do one brother will end up being miserable and the other brother will seem to be okay but end up caught up in their co-dependency with the other and the cycle repeats itself all over again.
idk, I wish there was better security but the show has lacked any reassurance on the matter, and always go several steps backwards to ensure their misery with zero character growth or progression into their issues and actually get an ending they all deserve (either driving off into the sunset together or end up dying saving the world.) But yeah, I don't trust this show to do anything like that.

Date: 2011-10-09 08:27 pm (UTC)The guys spout off the party line in some interviews but when they have to make the artistic choices they do better than the head writer, and that's kind of sad. Sera didn't know what Dean would do...and she felt so blithe about it she left it up to them, in such a critical moment, in the aftermath of the death of an important character. I don't understand how anyone could look at that and think she's good at what she does. I will forever side-eye anybody who defends her, or suspect they don't know about this incredible show of negligence and unprofessional behavior.

Date: 2011-10-10 12:51 pm (UTC)Exactly, and I think many miss that point entirely. There are many writers who would jump at this opportunity to further and go more in-depth these characters and relationships, their personal journeys, because that is what writers strive for. The fact the show is going backwards on that and not addressing these issues of why the character is doing so, it's really lousy and sloppy. They just want to return to how things were by forcing these situations upon them without recognizing the developments and what these characters went through over the last several seasons.
What's worse is how some people are defending this kind of writing of the characters. The excuse of "well that's just Dean's coping mechanism" can only work once. By the time the seventh season comes around someone really needs to slap him with the sensibility stick and call him out on being an asshole, you know? Character growth people, not just some passive aggressive dismissal of "that's just who they are."

It really is. :/ Part of me wants to know how much input the actors have about their characters, because I know such freedoms don't necessarily happen that easily on television. They might take it into account but not many shows are that lenient, so it really makes me wonder.
