It seems like Supernatural was renewed for a seventh season.

Meh, not unsurprising, however I'm not that excited or enthusiastic to be honest.

This season has been incredibly underwhelming and enraging for the most part, for reasons I've already expressed ad nausem. Show really needs to get their shit back together in order to impress me if they want a successful seventh season. I'd take Sera Gamble stepping down or being fired from showrunner position to be the first indicator of the show going in the right direction, please. I'd also take Kripke back in a heartbeat if that means no more shittiness that she's done, or Edlund if he's willing for the job. And better writers, as well. Just, a whole goddamn makeover would be nice. No more trainwrecks like it has been this entire season.

In other fandom news:

Yesterday Joss Whedon started filming The Avengers.

Plus, the Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog sequel is becoming a reality! Having it be three years since the first one came out, immediately becoming a hit sensation, they've become constructing songs for the second one. Of course this probably won't get started until after The Avengers gets finished, but still. More Dr. Horrible and more Joss Whedony goodness makes me happy, so yay!

The Guild is also shooting its fifth season.

Haven S2 teaser trailer! Very brief, but goddamn that freaky-looking clown....O_o

And finally, DEATHLY HALLOWS, PART 2 TRAILER PREMIERES TOMOROW!!!! \O/\O/\O/ MY FANGIRL HEART WILL SWELL WITH HAPPINESS AND MY EYES FILLED WITH EPIC TEARS.

I usually lurk but wanted to say that I agree with the theories that Castiel has been sorely under utilized this season, and that Season 6, as a whole, has been decidedly lacking. I don't know if it's the loss of Kripke or just bad writing but something needs to change for there to be substantial interest in Season 7, at least, on my end.

I'm curious... What are your thoughts of the writers, etc. bringing back Castiel? Do you see a way for the character to become an integral part of the show again?

If things are ambiguous at the end of this season, I think perhaps having him in the seventh season would be about proving himself and deciding where he truly belongs, especially if Heaven's civil war continues. If things are resolved, which I doubt, then something new would have to happen, although it would depend on how his relationship with the Winchesters would be. Particularly with Dean, because they do have a special connection and bond that hasn't been seen for most of this season, and I would like them to rekindle it.

Of course, my worry with the writers is underusing his character like they have for most of this season. While they might have done so to prolong the mystery of his storyline, I don't like them butchering his characterization only for shits and giggles.

I'm with you 100% on that one. It's a shame that the writers aren't.

[I think] the character itself has so many layers and facets that could be addressed and would make for really interesting story lines but for whatever reason, the writers don't seem eager to bring that into play. Instead, they bring him in for a bit of comic relief and/or cosmic placeholder. Here's hoping that the season renewal will light a fire under their collective asses.

*butts in interesting topics*

I've always said that Cas' character depth and the whole ensemble of the heavenly host can practically run an entire show/mini-series on their own. This whole season has me more interested on what's happening on the side (which we never see, because the world revolves around the Winchesters and their problems) rather than what're being shoved in our faces.

I wanted to see the war. I wanted to see the other angels. How was heaven split up? How did Cas manage to actually gain a following and an army when for the past 2 seasons, all of heaven shunned him out. :/ Heaven could really survive a short spin-off, which unfortunately will never happen.

This is my thought, exactly.

So much of the season has never been addressed, in terms of the war. We've gotten snippets of info here and there but the writers have yet to delve into detail. The character of Rachel was brought in rather abruptly and then she was killed off. We have Balthazar, yes, but is he the *only* other angel assisting Cas?

I keep thinking that the writers have barely scratched the surface of Cas' struggle(s) between maintaining his link with humanity, specifically the Winchesters, and his inherent nature of obedience and allegiance to the cause. The character is so rich and so complicated yet none of this is being brought out into the open. Instead, he is kept in shadows and secrecy. It's very disappointing.
