Dean Winchester says this line during the first season, though we've never seen them bow-hunting. Or any kind of uses of such weaponry besides the guns and knives they have.

I honestly think it would be pretty cool to see them wielding over weapons and arsenal besides the same old guns and tricks. If this season is all about getting "back to the basics" as they claim, I would like more extension to the hunting business; preferably with different techniques different hunters use. This makes me think about my ideas for an international look at this business, since different cultures use different kinds of weapons and how to use them; imagine Japanese hunters as opposed to Western hunters we normally see handling particular situations and their own tactics and methods, and seeing how effective they are. I think it would be pretty nifty. Then again I tend to look beyond what the show has given us, which makes me hungry for something more than what we're limited to (or what the writers fail to acknowledge or bring up ever again, as they often do, but I digress). There's definitely unique and different kinds of creatures and monsters elsewhere, as evidenced from this current season during "Weekend at Bobby's", so it would be nice to get a glimpse into other cultures and how they handle their own monsters.

These are just some thoughts I've been having. I often look at the bigger picture of the universe they are in, which is something I wish the show would take more seriously. *shrugs*

I like that Buffy uses crossbows and axes.

And the occasional grenade launcher. ;)

BTVS had a variety of weaponry used on the show and for many different occasions.

They did use crossbows in Dead Man's Blood. :)

It would be cool to see them go more old skool on something -- though I have to admit the sniper rifle in All Dogs Go To Heaven (and I guess we saw it in Simon Said though Dean didn't actually shoot it in that one) was really kinda hot.

And I'd love to see Sam actually using the wicked curved blade we saw him put in his bag in the pilot and then never saw again.

Ah. I stand corrected then. ;) But even with that, it was only once, and there hasn't been any usage of anything like that since. Sniper!Dean was something I was surprised about because we also only saw that once, which makes me pine for other things like that. Crossbows, sniper guns, more of that variety.

And I'd love to see Sam actually using the wicked curved blade we saw him put in his bag in the pilot and then never saw again.

It was used for promotional pictures as well. I don't know why they abandoned that blade because it would have been wicked cool to see Sam using it, or other kinds of weapons of that nature.

All of Sam's stuff was destroyed in the fire - he didn't stop to pick up his bag as Dean was dragging him out of the apartment.

I really wanna see at least one of them bowhunt at least once! Crossbow etc whatever, just do it, boys. *__* Or using a scythe or tonfa or something.

Seriously, everytime we see a hunter who is not amongst the Winchester-circle, they are assholes who all use guns. Sure, guns are the most useful but one would think they'd use something else too occasionally.

As a sort of a fan of Japanese culture, I'd be really interested in a peek of Asian hunters *__* but I don't know how that could be handled since this is centered in America. (Or Scotland. On occasion.)

Oh yes, the boys wielding scythes, that would be awesome. We did see something like that in promotional pictures for the first season, however that was barely used at all in the actual show. Which makes me kinda sad, because that would be so frakking cool.

That's what saddens me with the portrayal of other hunters they come across. Not just them being all mostly assholes, but they all use the same kind of tactics. There really is no Hunters Guide Book when getting into the business or how to do it, it's mainly a trial by error kind of deal and some hunters may find other methods more effective than others. Or create their own weapon. It seems rather lazy to just say "all hunters use guns."

Knowing this show, probably not handled or dealt with in a respectful manner that we would hope for, unfortunately. Though I've always had the idea that there could be a spin-off based around international hunters from all over, seeing how they hunt and their own internal affairs or something. Also, considering how American-centric Supernatural is, I find it hard to believe that everything centering around the Apocalypse wasn't affecting other hunters elsewhere too. I want to see how those hunters reacted to knowing about all this, or what's happening now, or if they are aware at all.

I would love to see them use a broadsword or katana, claymore, a bow and arrow, a Japanese/Chiense longbow, maybe even a mace. There are so many weapons available that can be use instead of the usual guns and knives and machetes.

Exactly. I mean they deal with paranormal creatures right? And while I know not all of them can be killed with a bullet, sometimes it takes much research to know precisely how to kill a particular being, it doesn't mean they can't always switch it up now and again. I guess perhaps guns are the default for hunters, but some variety would be lovely. Same with other hunters they encounter.

Which reminds me, whatever happened to the Colt?

I guess a gun is the quickest way to kill something with the least margin of error? Though I'd love to see some swords or something, when they're fighting out in the open and don't need to conceal a weapon on their person.

Someone above mentioned Buffy, who mainly uses Medieval weapons because they didn't want her to be using guns. She does use the rocket launcher, but you don't ever see the high school girl reaching for her 45.

That's what I'm thinking as well, that guns are the default for Western hunters because it's the quickest. However sometimes it really isn't, and sometimes there needs to be alternatives. And you're right, sometimes they need to be inconspicuous when being out in public, without worrying about being arrested and locked up again.

That is true regarding Buffy and the guns thing, a better and more effective manner of fighting without the firepower. I also think it's because of the training Slayers often did by using Medieval weaponry based off the demons and vampires she would be facing. Bullets are ineffective in that case anyway.

I know. I guess that's why I like the fanfic so much- it expands on the universe in ways the show seems incapable of.

Same here. There are so many possibilities, and sometimes it doesn't take a huge budget or convoluted plot to really expand a universe.

So true. There is a big universe out there that the writers could explore, but more enough than not the keep using that tired Sam and Dean brotherly angst plot device. Just once I would love to see Heaven through Cas' eyes/POV.

I would love to see another episode similar to "On The Head Of A Pin" which essentially was an angel-centric and Castiel-centric episode. It astounds me that they haven't done one since the fourth season, seeing as that Castiel is a series regular and that they could have used some episodes to really explore his journey more. The fact that they keep returning to the old and tired "brotherly angst" plot is rather ridiculous.

True, I've always said the show might be about Sam and Dean, but it doesn't have to be JUST about Sam and Dean.

It is, I get that they made him a regular in season five mostly because the fans liked him and than they didn't know what to do with him, but still....

I would have wanted them to at least understand that while we love Castiel, we want his character to have something to do than just appear on the screen. The main reason we love him is because he became such a huge deal in the fourth season, his character involvement and development, his story enthralled us. To just not expand on that is sloppy and lazy.

Agreed. In this season in particular Sera seems to be taking the easy/sloppy/lazy way out with a lot of things; we're told that Dean spent a year with Lisa (and then it was the best year of her life) but instead of showing us that they used a time skip.

I remember that quote about bow hunting and I agree. I also like your application to business. Having a variety of strategies and tactics in one's arsenal is always a good idea.

I find it really hard to believe all hunters use the same tactics and skills and strategies. Most of them learn by trial and error and experimenting, not everything is going to be exactly the same. Like I said in another comment, one hunter might find something more useful and effective than another hunter does for a particular hunt.

That would have been amazing to be honest. I really want there to be more focus on different hunters. Especially hunters from different places such as Japan, that would be awesome to see. I mean yeah we get it, the Winchesters are the main focus of the show, but it's not always about them you know. And when you turn that show into an anime I'm sure there are other places you can explore that the original show couldn't.

Perhaps if the DVD sales for the anime do well they can go further in that department? including giving us some ANGEL AND HEAVEN ACTION!

'including giving us some ANGEL AND HEAVEN ACTION!'
Count me in. When I first heard about the anime I really hoped it would last long enough for the angels (at least Cas) to show up so we could see angel wings in anime form; they could make them look awesome because they wouldn't have to worry about a special effects budget.

My thoughts exactly. I hope that if the sales for this one go well that maybe they'll consider doing a second series, one with the angels and the Heaven arc? Because I would love to see their rendition of the angels without budget issues, along with giving us an actual apocalyptic battle that the show utterly failed at giving us.

I would like to see that too. Anything involving the angels (I hope they don't mess with Cas' character design too much) and the apocalypse is fine by me.

Regarding character designs, they did say that Sam and Dean were going to be based off the actors whereas everyone else featured are original constructs. So perhaps they might give their own personal interpretation of Castiel if they ever get to do that.

(though I would hope they would go for Kripke's description for reference, very Constantine-like)

True. He just wouldn't be the same without the brown tench coat. Although I really hope they don't give him John's blond hair- that would just be asking for the fangirls to make him into a weeping uke/woobie (more so than they already do).
