Day 17 - Favorite mini series

Alice

Unlike the network's original movies which are always horrendously bad, SciFi's miniseries are incredibly unique and have quality storytelling to them. Alice was one of theirs which is a modern re-imagining of Alice in Wonderland which is a futuristic look at Wonderland with science fiction elements added to the story.

What I loved about Alice was how it surprised me with the story and how well it flowed. I particularly really liked the characters, even ones that surprised me like Duchess, for example. I really love modern interpretations of these kinds of stories and this was one I really enjoyed because it had that kind of dystopian feel to Wonderland, having familiar things with added twists and such. Also? It's because of this miniseries that I really started shipping Alice/Hatter because, um, hello? The UST was so there between them, and it's like the entire miniseries was like almostkissing and then LOL COCKBLOCKED which made me all frustrated because I'm all, kiss dammit! Thankfully it had a happy ending, which made me all squeeful. I honestly believe that Andrew-Lee Potts really made Hatter in this miniseries, he completely sold the character for me when I hadn't really thought about the character before. From the story and the characters to the gorgeous imagery and placement of the Wonderland universe. SciFi really did great with this. I loved it so much.

I mean seriously, watch this and tell me it's not absolutely gorgeous-looking.

Harper's Island

Harper's Island is what I consider to be an extended televised thriller kind of film, because that's precisely what it was. Especially if you marathon all 13 episodes it definitely feels not like a show but like a horror movie, which is what I loved about it.

I'm a huge horror fanatic. I love anything that is scary and has suspenseful elements to it, and I also love whodunit mysteries, and Harper's Island was a mixed of all those elements. Now I've heard people's opinions about the plot twists especially towards the end which made it a little weird or whatever, but honestly? I absolutely loved it. I really had a lot of interesting twists and turns here and there, and even some scenes that were incredibly gruesome that I keep wondering how it even made it passed the censors. Again, I love my horror and whatnot, but sometimes you have to think what is too much for basic television and not something like, HBO or Showtime. Plus, Harper's Island had a hodgepodge of amazing actors all together, from Katie Cassidy and Christopher Gorham to Jim Beaver and Callum Keith Rennie, all of them performed beautifully in this thriller miniseries. Just, yeah. I really loved watching and guessing and making theories right up to the end. It's haunting, it's creepy, it's gory and gruesome and scary. And I love it.

Masterlist of days here.

Because of this, I'm wondering what other miniseries are going to be out this year? I miss having miniseries events, they're always something to look forward to.

I effing loved Harper's Island so hard. It was deliciously gory and scary and funny and entertaining as hell. Plus it had a really great cast.

And I forgot to tell you that I got Alice from Netflix awhile back and I had to watch it twice cause I enjoyed it so much. Well played SyFy, well played.

I was surprised at how many people I recognized from Harper's Island. I knew a few people when I heard about it but I saw a lot of familiar faces. It's like, yay a fandom collision of awesome! But yeah, that entire miniseries was so great, I loved it so much.

YAY ALICE! \O/ Isn't it fantastic? I knew I would enjoy it but I didn't expect to fall in love with it as quickly as I did, especially with the cuteness of Alice/Hatter. ♥
