Such a display of patriotism.
Jul. 5th, 2008 08:59 pmCheers to all who had a lovely Independence Day celebration. For us we don't do the patriotic festivities, like barbeque and fireworks, unless there's relatives involved, which this year there wasn't. So I stayed inside like any normal night listening to the firecrackers go boom and prayed that nobody sets this entire state on fire.
While everyone is reacting to the Doctor Who finale, I just finished S1 of Friday Night Lights. And all I can say is, why didn't I discover this show before? Seriously.
I'm not a football person, I've never been interested in the sport nor do I understand anything about the plays and strategies involved. But FNL is a character drama show, the sport is merely what drives these characters because it's their passion and dream. It's all about the journey these characters make and the development within themselves and those around them. I don't know but ever since viewing the pilot there was something that drew me to continue watching the season, and I will say the first season was golden. Everything came full circle in the end, and I shall begin season two as soon as possible. I'll do a quick roundup of my first-viewing of S1 shortly, but yeah. This is another fandom to add to my list of fandoms.

Date: 2008-07-06 04:26 am (UTC)Ugh. Doctor Who.
I wasn't a huge football fan until I got to college. Football Saturdays here incredibly crazy but so much fun.
I've been meaning to watch Friday Night Lights for a while but several series have always taken priority before it. I hope to finish the first season of Flight of the Conchords this coming week and get caught up with the Office. Maybe then I'll start this series.

Date: 2008-07-06 04:44 am (UTC)My FList has been FLOODED with DW reactions. Like, seriously. OMG.
I was pleasantly surprised by FNL. I mean, I went into the show because I adore one particular actress (Adrianne Palicki) and in the end I pretty much adored every single person in the cast. So once you do get around to watching it, I guarantee it'll at least be interesting with the pilot, and hopefully for the rest of the season. But it's a great drama series, and I'm glad I got sucked in. Better late than never, that's for sure. I don't know how I could've handled it if I'd watched it from the beginning, with all that time in between episodes.

Date: 2008-07-06 04:36 am (UTC)Every Fourth of July, we buy tons of, like, the smaller fireworks and set them all off in our driveway. It's one of the only holidays with my family that doesn't make me insane.

Date: 2008-07-08 02:18 pm (UTC)I've never really been able to get into Dr. Who. I've seen a couple of episodes here and there, and I usually like sci-fi, but for some reason, it just doesn't pull me in.
Oh, and I hate fireworks. They are just so loud. I guess living in a college town the last few years contributes to that hatred to, what with the drunk students setting off fireworks outside my building and all. I just find it all annoying.

Date: 2008-07-08 03:38 pm (UTC)With DW it's a hit or miss for certain people. I'm picky about the scifi I like, which compared to others isn't much, but I got into DW because of Billie Piper, who I'd known from her singing days and was curious as to this newer series and adventures of the Doctor. I have to admit lately I've been catching up via spoilers, the same with Torchwood, since I'm not as invested as I once was. But I still keep up with what's happening every now and again. Of course it's getting tiring with all these reaction posts everyone has about the recent DW finale.
I like fireworks, I just don't like them when they unintentionally start fires or are being set off in the middle of the night while I'm trying to sleep. Not to mention that people are STILL setting them off randomly throughout the night, even days after Independence Day has come and gone. :/
