It was recently announced that the new Spartacus revival series has been greenlit by STARZ and will be called Spartacus: House of Ashur. Based on the description, it's a "what if" kind of situation.

I have....thoughts on this. )

Regardless, I have to say one of my favorite aspects of the Spartacus series is the dialogue. The way they used language in that show was amazing. Plus, if this gets more people to watching the main series and getting kind of a rejuvenating of the fandom in some way, they'd be a massive bonus.

++ There's going to be a Spartacus sequel series in the works, as confirmed by the creator. It would be ten years since the original series ended on STARZ. I don't have much thoughts on this development other than this: it better stay exactly the same, stylistically. That regardless of its budget there are absolutely no improvements whatsoever. The dramatic slow-motion scenes and the ridiculously gratuitous amounts of splattering blood, all of this was part of its charm, it became its signature that separated it from anything else on television back then and even today, so if they still stick with that then we're golden. That is all.

Furthermore, I hope that this awakens the Spartacus fandom, newcomers and older fans alike, (re)discovering the series and it having a kind of resurgence, because that show was so good.

++ Zhu Yilong's newest upcoming movie, Lost in the Stars, seems to essentially be a psychological thriller mystery, and just based on the trailer alone I'm deeply intrigued. Also, the teaser reminded me of the trailer for The Handmaiden, just from the way it was edited together in quick succession to the chosen music. It's effective, since it tells you nothing and it gets you curious of what it could possibly be about. Either way, I really want to see this whenever it becomes readily available.

++ Finally started watching Spartacus: Blood and Sand since it's been on my queue for a while and it was recommended by many, and I like it so far. The only downside is that you can tell they had a really limited budget when it came to the special effects, but the rest makes up for that, from the costumes to the fighting and the story itself. Overall it's interesting and an entertaining show so far, and I can't wait to get to the next three seasons since I heard they were amazing. Also another thing I love? All the equal opportunity with nudity for both women and men, which I very much appreciate, and something I wish HBO and Showtime would get with the program for.

++ I've been playing LEGO Lord of the Rings on Xbox 360, and I am absolutely loving it. It's super fun! I've been playing with my mom and my sister, and we've kind of wasted most of our afternoons just figuring out how to get through it. It makes me highly anticipate for when they make a version for The Hobbit, because I really want to play that one.
