It's April, but I'm no fool.

++ So, I haven't been having a good time in recent weeks.
For starters, my health kind of backfired on me a little bit, though have since been getting better. Then I just had an awful experience getting a hair cut, or rather hair trim. My regular hairstylist wasn't available at the time but the place I go to does walk-ins so I figured that having someone else just give a trim would be okay. You'd think that just a basic trim wouldn't be too complicated, right? Apparently it was for this person. Although they were friendly, they did a rather shoddy job and, to be honest, something that anyone could've done (which is what pissed me off the most since this is someone who is supposedly professionally trained and schooled, they should've known better), and truthfully the whole interaction just felt a bit off. I didn't say anything at the time as I probably should have, but I'm not a confrontational person in general, and as upset as I was which gradually escalated as time went on, I don't know how I would've reacted.
To top all of that off, my emotional state hasn't been the greatest, because mental health and all, so having those two things happen rather close together really didn't help matters either. Thankfully, things are getting back to an equilibrium. But still, not a happy time for me lately.
++ Tumblr unfortunately hasn't done anything for April Fools, not even bringing back the Boops that they introduced last year (and was later brought back for Halloween) that proved to be immensely popular among the userbase. Not that I expected this to become tradition, even though it should since everyone loved it. I just expected something, especially considering the state of the world right now having a lowkey fun and silly thing would be welcome. Instead, what we got was an unwelcome and unnecessary UI update which, unfortunately, isn't a fun whimsical prank. Truly a hellsite, indeed. :/
++ Speaking of Tumblr, ever since that one list challenge of "the greatest movies of all time" was recently passed around more people have been creating their own to give, in their opinion, a better criteria or at least a more specified list of movies or other media. I've participated in a few of them, it is rather interesting and fun to see what kinds of things people put on their lists. But, just like with those "Have You Seen This...." Tumblr polls, it's all quite subjective and it makes me think about my taste in movies/media, which are eclectic and all over the place. The only one that I got the highest score from (so far) was the millennial list, which provided a surprising amount of nostalgia especially ones that I didn't think others remembered. Really proving that yes, I am a millennial, lol. Regardless, it's just fun and depending on how someone is preparing their list can be great for recommendations.

Yeah, I completely agree. I would love something lowkey fun and silly.
I must have missed the UI thing...
I should try the movie lists! They seem fun. "Greatest movie" is definitely subjective. "Classics" or "popular films through the ages" might be a more objective title... still fun to test how many I've seen.

Date: 2025-04-03 01:59 pm (UTC)Apparently Automattic (the company that owns Tumblr) laid off some of its employees recently, so perhaps that might've been one of the reasons why there was a lack of April Fool's whimsy. And even the lack of a Christmas one too, since I noticed that as well. The UI update that happened before April 1st was the only thing we got, unfortunately. It's not as terrible as the complete layout change they did to mimic Twitter, but still, annoying nonetheless.
Yeah, those lists are very fun! I like seeing both the general and personal lists people create and what percentage I get. I am equally surprised by how much, or how little, I've seen based on individual lists.

Date: 2025-04-02 06:17 am (UTC)I've been having a great time with those Tumblr movie polls as well. I came higher than I expected on one that was old movies I'd seen on television and movies I showed to my kids.

Date: 2025-04-03 10:14 am (UTC)I was wondering why some people were doing their own "boops." I saw a couple of Rick Rolls, but that's about it. I did prank my coworkers though! Not in a mean way--I'm posting a write up in a little bit. People loved it.
THANK YOU for posting the original list! I've done like six of them by now, but they've all been variations, like, "This is what I think is missing from that list" or the Millennial one. The Millennial one is interesting to me, and definitively put me in the Elder Millennial camp because I saw some of those movies IN THEATERS.
I'm tempting to make my own list with just the entire contents of my actual DVD shelf.

Date: 2025-04-05 11:53 am (UTC)You're welcome. :) I remember doing that list a while ago and I was wondering why it was making the rounds again. And now it seems everyone is making their own, which has been fun.

Date: 2025-04-06 03:06 pm (UTC)It's hard at first! Just takes practice. Definitely go back and explain what happened once your usual person is available again.
Oh--I just made one! Here is the link: https://www.listchallenges.com/every-single-dvd-on-ashs-dvd-shelf

Date: 2025-04-08 09:12 am (UTC)Oh, yay, that's awesome! I just did the challenge and I got practically half of the list. There were some that I knew of but I don't ever recall seeing, either ever or in full. But overall, that's quite an impressive list! :D

Date: 2025-04-08 02:53 pm (UTC)Good luck!
Yay, half is about what most people are getting, I think! Thanks—I've been working on this collection for a long time. There's a reason I needed to take inventory on it a few years ago!

Date: 2025-04-06 08:25 am (UTC)Ha, fun! I'm not a millennial, more gen x, although of course the edges are not well defined, but I have seen 99% of the movies on that list. Good list!

Date: 2025-04-08 09:30 am (UTC)I know it's just hair and that it grows back, but man, a bad haircut, even just a hair trim can be upsetting.
I hope your health is improving :)
Thank you, it's mostly better at this point. :)

Date: 2025-04-09 01:49 pm (UTC)Also I'm mad if someone professional trims my hair badly. It's their literal job and if they're having a day where they don't want to work they can opt to not work rather than spending a day doing sub par haircuts. I know that it sucks to miss a day in a service industry. However, I think it's important to understand that what you do in that role matters and if you can't handle the work that day then don't do the work.
