2025 is upon us. Let us hope that despite current events that we will make the most of it, the best we can, for ourselves and those around us.

++ I will be partaking in this year's snowflake_challenge. I'll just wait a bit before at least a good portion of the prompts are available.

++ Learning that that apparently Netflix tells writers to have character announce what they're doing in order for people who aren't actively watch the television to follow along is just one of the many issues with a lot of Netflix-produced shows and movies. Reading the linked article really gives perspective of how fucked the Netflix streaming model is with its produced programing, and it goes beyond just the "tell, don't show" strategy. I've seen others say that streaming has become a "content farm", and it's true. It's less about creative storytelling and more about producing more or less and discarding it immediately to move onto the next thing. Over the years it's become clear that the current streaming model isn't sustainable at least when it comes to the creative freedom of telling stories and being innovative, and this just further confirms it.

++ I became aware of Guardians of the Dafeng because of some gifsets featuring a very silly and fluffy Wang Hedi, and knowing that not only is it a comedy but it's also a transmigration story, it makes so much sense given the limited information and context I got from those gifsets. I don't know if I'll be watching necessarily, but at least he's having the time of his life and I'm here for it.

(Also yes, I have entertained the thought of there being a crossover with Love Game in Eastern Fantasy, since both have modern day transmigrators it would be hilarious to see Ling Miaomiao and Xu Qi'an interact and the shenanigans that would follow.)

Dumbing down media is a really frustrating thing to see. More and more people aren't able to follow things and we should be concerned about that, not catering to it.

I remember back at my first office job we were still in the early days of the Harry Potter movies coming out and one woman started talking about how the movies were just too complicated for her to follow. It was super concerning. These are movies for children (especially the first few) and if an adult can't follow that story that adult really has lost a lot of cognitive ability.

Ugh to the Netflix thing. Why would I want to watch crap. I do watch TV while doing other things, but I'm not going to watch something badly written. Which I think most of Netflix already is, and it seems it's only going to get worse.

Exactly. It's sad because I remember when Netflix first started its streaming service and it was considered a savior for creators who wanted more creative freedom of their work, and now they've put even more restrictions and unfair rules and regulations on creators, never mind the cancellations left and right for random algorithm reasons. It's frustrating, and it makes me less inclined to watch anything.
