Jon Stewart is returning to The Daily Show as Monday host and executive producer starting February 12th through the election of 2024.

This honestly was a pleasant surprise, especially considering the recent kerfuffle about them attempting to find another host, leading to the decision of rotating correspondents as temporary hosts. This could be what saves The Daily Show from being outright cancelled, as some have been speculating, so it was a smart move.

Furthermore, this is bringing back waves of nostalgia. Jon Stewart was a massive influence to my generation's awareness of politics. He brought a good balance of comedy and satire along with being informative of certain things that were going on. He pulled no punches when discussing particular political news and current world events. His most noteworthy was his reaction directly after 9/11, being a New Yorker himself, he was deeply affected and he made no effort to hide his emotions on what occurred. While he obviously wasn't the only source to get the news, he certainly was someone that most people of my generation got news from that didn't seem to be shoddy or biased journalism, which is why most tuned into The Daily Show at that time because he was funny but also serious and passionate about the things he talked about. I think we all missed his presence during the whole mess that was the 2016 elections, but I also understood why he would've been emotionally burned out if he were to cover all of that. And considering that Apple cancelled his previous show because he wanted to talk about things they didn't want him to talk about in fear of alienating their viewers, well, I'd say that this is a perfect comeback for him. A much needed one, I might add.

I'm just curious how this is going to be for the younger generation, though, since things have definitely changed. I don't expect it to have the same impact with young people as it did back when I was in high school, since most kids these days don't know who he is. Perhaps clips can be circulated on TikTok? I don't know. Either way, as long as we get some kind of sanity in regards to the news and especially with the election, I'm good.

Oh boy this may be what gets me through 2024 elections. I stopped watching the Daily Show for a while because it just became impossible to laugh at politics, but I think Jon Stewart's energy is desperately needed right now.

Oh that's excellent news! I didn't expect he'd come back but that seems like something that could absolutely save the show.

It feels like a lot of the shows like this which take the time to add comedy to the news also take the time to do a deeper analysis of what's going on and really do important work in making people aware of the issues.
