Yeah, the whole Alex/Owen thing was just not convincing because it seemed very shoehorned. It was very out of place for all the things you mentioned. It's sad, in a way, because I know the creators did have more things planned and I think it was one of the actors that said that, had the show been on another network it probably would've lasted much longer which would've given them the time to organically build all of that up properly. I mean, they did what they could to wrap up the show, but I don't think they needed to go down that route with Alex and Owen, tbh.

The development of Birkhoff was probably something I wasn't expecting, because his character was pretty much introduced to basically be the Division lackey, but then season two happened and all of that changed. It was such a 180, and I appreciated that because I ended up loving what they did with his character. Also, I loved how lovingly teasing Nikita was with him too in the beginning of that new dynamic, the "aww Nerd, you're lonely! you saved us because you missed us" and him trying to deny it. That was cute.

I mean frankly that ship felt like fan service to me anyway, from what I remember there were extremely vocal Owen/Alex fans online before they had even shared a single scene together, and it seemed like the writers latched on to that after the Alex and Sean ship didn’t take off as much as they had hoped? It was definitely way too shoehorned in when they only had 8 episodes to wrap up everything, I would perhaps have felt differently if it was a relationship that could have at least been developed over the usual 23 episodes

And yes, loved everything about the Nikita and Birkoff relationship, they had some really great scenes once he started working with them. Another one that stands out is when Nikita says ‘I’m the muscle’ when he’s doing that deal with his savings *g*

Huh, interesting. I didn't frequent much of the Nikita online fandom so I wasn't aware of that, but know that I do it does seem like they definitely pandered to those specific fans with that kind of fanservice. But even so, were the Alex/Owen fans even happy with that result, especially given how little time it had to even happen?

I’m pretty sure that most of them were happy with it yes, it was a complete non canon ship in the beginning with the characters never having any scenes together, so I’m guessing they were just delighted that the show picked up on their very vocal interest in that ship and did what they could with it in the time that was available.

I didn’t hate them together or anything, but it definitely felt like fan pandering imo and not very organic, especially after how much deeper his connection had been with Nikita over the course of the series. The whole Owen becoming ‘Sam’ thing wasn’t really my favourite plot line anyway tbh!

I'm the same, I didn't hate them necessarily, but it just didn't really make much sense and I didn't really care much about them. And the "Sam" thing wasn't my favorite, either.
