She DID almost land them into huge trouble, and honestly, it could've been even worse for the Order - not that Cho had any way of knowing that. But still. However, they could've made peace with it all, and they don't. Also, when we see Cho again in DH, Ginny immediately gets jealous when she offers to go to the Ravenclaw Tower with Harry. Yikes, Ginny.
I think we're supposed to see Snape's love for Lily as romantic. Even though it's not really written as romantic...?

Snape's love for Lily reminds me of ... there was this plot on "Good Karma Hospital" this season about this man in his eighties who returned to India to look for the girl he loved when his father was stationed there, back when he was 15 or 16 and against all odds he found her but then walked away when he saw her with her husband. Of course he had a heart attack and she found him etc. etc. long story short, they had a conversation what she said stuck with me "It's easy to love from afar but building a life together, putting your heart on the line every single day, takes courage. Sometimes love just isn't enough." It doesn't sounds very special but then again it's kind of true – especially when we're alone and don't experience that romantic love we may just wish for something that never was and start thinking of the what if-s, which isn't helpful.

I'm not sure that's a perfect parallel, 'cause Snape knew Lily for a very long time. But then he screwed up his own chances of ever being with her by associating with budding Death Eaters and refusing to cut ties with them, rather than being separated by distance. JKR actually said there was a chance Lily would have loved him if he hadn't done that. But he only has himself to blame, not circumstances or fate.
