++ The reveal that Keanu Reeves is going to be in Cyberpunk 2077, never mind his appearance presenting the game at the conference after that reveal happened, was probably the best moment in E3 history. I think that moment overshadowed everything else at the event, tbh. Everyone is practically in love with Keanu. I was already intrigued by Cyberpunk 2077, but now I'm really excited for it. But the most important question is: will Keanu's character be romanceable?

++ Kesha released a brand new song called, "Rich, White, Straight, Men" which is a gigantic middle finger to the patriarchy. I approve. Also, this is a completely different sound from what we're used to hearing from her. It has a sort of dark cabaret vibe, similar to that of The Dresden Dolls (specifically "Coin-Operated Boy") and Emilie Autumn. It may be an acquired taste for some people considering it is more of an experimental kind of track, but I personally really dig it.

++ Ever since the news broke out that Swamp Thing has been cancelled after only one episode, which completely blindsided and baffled everyone and there's been varying reports as to the reasons why, many have been questioning the future of DC shows, especially since one of the reasons given is that the people at WarnerMedia seem to want all DC shows to be similar to the CW formula. Understandably, many are pissed. You cannot place these shows underneath the same kind of formula, superhero stories are not homogeneous. They can, and should, have variety to reach a whole bunch of different audiences and not just the same thing over and over again. Some can be family-friendly, while others can be more mature and dark in content. Not everything has to be absolutely the same, otherwise it gets boring real fast, and this is part of a larger problem overall with higher ups looking at things at being marketable versus having a good story the curse of the entertainment industry, tbh. And this is making people nervous about what will become of shows like Doom Patrol (something I've recently been wanting to watch) which has gotten much praise and positive reception but might also be affected by all this fuckery that's been happening.

That was adorable. That whole moment was probably the best highlight of the event, because it was just so wholesome. Apparently it's been reported that Keanu was blown away by the audience's response to him, which makes the whole thing even more awesome. :)

I'm so fucking excited about this new Kesha. I've always enjoyed her music, but as she becomes more and more of a 'take no fucks' sort of woman, I am HERE FOR IT. Her straight up talent as a song writer and performer now blended with her no-fucks-to-give....we're in for some amazing art.

I feel the same way. I know that she's technically still not entirely free from her abusive producer, but she's making the music she wants to make. First with her Rainbow album which was beautiful, and now with releasing songs like this. I've always enjoyed her music, and I love that's she's able to do what she likes and write the songs she wants to. This song is also perfect being released during Pride month, too. Kesha always delivers and I just want her to continue to let her creativity soar. ❤

The internet went completely nuts over Keanu. That was interesting to see.

I thought Swamp Thing getting canceled was some kind of clerical error having to do with tax cuts?
Personally, I enjoy the CW shows/Arrowverse, but it doesn't make sense to have them all follow this same concept. Marvel did a good job having the ABC (yes, Inhumans wasn't that good and Agent Carter was canceled too early) and Netflix shows with completely different tones...until Netflix pulled the plug *sighs*

The DC streaming shows are so messy BTS. Titans was shortened by one episode for some reason so what we got was a total non final-y finale and the first episode of season 2 will be the actual season 1 finale as it had already been shot for season 1 or something like that? lmao I like Titans a lot and I'm glad that it got an early renewal but at this point I'm not sure we will actually get to see it in full. And the Swamp Thing cancellation is also shady af which sucks because the first episode was really good.
I also don't understand why they would want to follow the CW formula. I enjoyed them for a while but Legends aside, they all went down the drain in various ways!

Cancelling a show after 1 episode is ridiculous.

I can't believe they were planning a multi-season arc and possible Justice League Dark franchise, and it gets cancelled before it's even properly started because of an error in the finances. That is next-level dumbfuckery. Someone should be doing everything in their power to fix it when something that significant happens basically by accident.

I knew that many loved him, but this event really demonstrated just how much. Even he's flabbergasted by it, lol. It's adorable.

It was. I feel like it was a combination of things, that being the biggest, but surely everything else BTS had higher ups going against it from the start because it wasn't what they thought it was going to be. Which unfortunately does happen, TPTB can ultimately just decide that despite audiences and critics loving something they can just take it away because they never had faith in it/didn't like it/etc.

Marvel definitely has been good with having their shows be in different tones and not following the same formula, and appealing to a wider audience because of that. Idk what's going on with DC, but I saw someone saying that they need to get away from Warner Bros from constantly screwing everything up with them, and I'm inclined to agree.

It was apparently due to a paperwork error regarding finances in North Carolina (where the show filmed). It's certainly not the typical way of finding out a show has been prematurely cancelled, but it's still ridiculous all the same that it had to happen like that.

Seriously, it boggles my mind. Even though it seems unlikely, I still feel like the show deserves a second chance because of this ridiculousness.

It certainly sounds like a mess, jfc.

I feel like it's more for marketability more than anything else, they see that the CW is "safer" with their content and want to follow suit. But, like you said, while some of their shows started out great they plummeted downhill real quick. Just because the CW doesn't cancel the majority of their programming, especially once something has been established like the Arrowverse, doesn't mean that it's good. The reasons why things like Swamp Thing and Doom Patrol are praised is because they don't follow that particular formula and are different.

I was already all in for Cyberpunk because I LOVE Witcher and I was really excited to see what they could do with a Sci-Fi storyline but the additional to Keanu is just a freakin' awesome bit of icing on a cake I planned on shoving my face in to. LOL. Definitely the biggest moment of E3

While I had no interest in watching the show, it generally seemed to be well received, so the cancelation was definitely weird and far too quick. I think they might have waited longer canceling it if it wasn't for the money issue.

I still have only watched Wonder Woman, but their movies are only now starting to do well because they changed up their formula with Aquaman and Shazam. WB wanted something like the MCU without putting the work in. On the CW they found something that works, but launching their own streaming service seemed a little too optimistic. Then again, I haven't watched any of the show and they do seem to have a decent following online.

I remember getting excited last year when it was revealed that you can customize the main playable character, and this year they amped it up with that Keanu reveal. I'm just hoping the game will turn out as good as we're hyping it up to be.

I think it was already a good sign that they never tied themselves to a release date until just now. SO many games pick a date before they are even close to done and then disasters happen and they never recover. I feel like CD Projekt Red knows what they are doing at this point, thank goodness!

I remember when the game was first announced, and that was six years ago. It was even mentioned in the teaser trailer that it was "coming: when it's ready", which I didn't realize was a crucial thing. Because you're right, a lot of video games do have deadlines that unfortunately push a lot of the people working on it far too hard, working many hours to get it ready and sometimes it's not even remotely close to being finished. Let us hope that they are, indeed, very much ready for official release next year.

Damn, cancelled after one episode aired?? That's so frustrating! I just saw that Crystal Reed was starring in it and now I'm disappointed; she was a treasure on Teen Wolf and I'd been hoping for her to get something good!

I totally agree with you regarding marketability vs actual good storytelling; this is part of the reason why I dropped so many CW shows all at once.

From: [identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com
I think many people were excited to see Crystal Reed on their television screens again, so it's really unfortunate that this happened especially the way it happened. :/

The CW has a very basic formula that almost all their programs follow, and only a few rare shows that go against it most of which turn out to actually be good. But otherwise, I wouldn't really hold the CW up as a good business model to follow. They tend to really ruin the things they touch.
