++ I'm trying to keep my sanity with the current state of the world. I don't talk politics on my journal because it gives me a headache (and because I'll just end up ranting and raging and giving myself more of a headache), but I do want to remind everyone to please, please vote in the upcoming elections in November.

++ I'm sure people have heard by now that Netflix cancelled Luke Cage, the second show they've cancelled of their Marvel lineup within a single week. Iron Fist's cancellation didn't surprise me, nor did it bother me. But Luke Cage? The show that supposedly broke Netflix when it first premiered? Where it still held strong during its second season and is still favorable with audiences? That was honestly shocking to me, since the decision literally came out of left field. Reading articles and such, I've seen claims about there being disputes between Netflix and Disney, creative differences over how a third season would be written, and then rumors about the possibility of Heroes For Hire being made as a replacement of both cancelled shows. Regardless, this furthers the concerns people have been having over the fate of the other Marvel shows. I don't know what's going to happen. All I know is that I want Jessica Jones to continue going on, even though the showrunner is leaving after S3, and that I want all these characters to interact with each other again at some point. The Defenders may have been meh, but them teaming up was fantastic and it would be a waste to not try to make it happen again.

++ I'm honestly really enjoying the current season of Doctor Who so far. The first two episodes were essentially just getting acquainted and reacquainted with everything, a new Doctor, new Companions, building a new Sonic Screwdriver, and finding the TARDIS. Both episodes were good, but I definitely think the third episode is definitely the best one so far. It centered entirely on Rosa Parks, and it was beautifully done. It was both uncomfortable to watch but also uplifting and powerful at the same time. The ending got to me real good. I read that the show is getting back to the educational aspects it once had, and they certainly did that by tackling real issues that effect us today, by not sugarcoating the hardships that marginalized groups face, but also by giving us hope that we can make a difference. It might not happen immediately, but sometimes a single action can take that step forward for the future. Plus, the episode was co-written by Malorie Blackman, the first black writer for Doctor Who. It was just so great. Seriously, it feels good to be excited about this show again. It truly does. :)

++ Upon seeing Venom (still awesome, btw), I saw trailers for upcoming movies that I thought looked interesting. First is The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, which I saw the teaser for previously but it just refreshes the fact that it's coming out soon. I'm curious about it, it seems like the perfect Christmas/holiday type of movie to see. Next was Bumblebee, which is part of the Transformers franchise. And I'll be honest, while I only watched the first film I never really cared much for these movies. However, Bumblebee actually looks adorable? And it's the first film of the franchise to not be directed by Michael Bay (who I don't like), so that's something. Plus, Hailee Steinfeld will be in it, who I think is a solid actress in her own right. So, we'll see. And then, of course, Captain Marvel. I'm already hyped for that movie, but seeing the trailer on the big screen was super awesome regardless. I'm not much of a moviegoer these days, some of these I'll end up seeing either way late or once it's released on DVD, but I do know that Captain Marvel is one that I'm highly anticipating seeing in the theaters immediately when it comes out.

Just finished S3 of Daredevil, while I wasn't too invested before I am now because of Sister Maggie. And of course Jessica Jones. Well, of course Iron Fist as such was terrible but they had to cancel that the moment it got interesting and Colleen became the Iron Fist, I found that disappointing. Irrationally (or not), I also thought Joy could have been an interesting character if properly explored. Her meeting with Madame Gao at the end of S1 showed such potential.

I mean even if all these shows get cancelled on Netflix because Disney re-claims their rights, that does not necessarily mean they get picked up again by the new Disney streaming service, does it?

I'm ambivalent about Doctor Who. I love Jodie as the Doctor. But the feel of the show is more Sarah Jane Adventures than Doctor Who. Not that that's a bad thing in my eyes actually, at times I thought SJA was the much better show tbh. I'm also a bit afraid of the writing of the Doctor as a character, does Chibnall write 13 so bordering on passive because she's a she or because that's his version of the Doctor. I'm definitely interested to see more of Yas, she's obviously very driven and bright but we haven't seen what makes her tick yet. I guess that's the trouble with so many people in the TARDIS - much like during the classic series when it was Nyssa, Tegan and Adric - it felt crowded pretty fast. But we'll see. I liked the first and third episode so far... though I was a bit surprised that the Doctor let Ryan get away with killing/disintegrating the bad guy in the last one or perhaps I missed something. One thing is for sure, I'll be happy if I never have to endure Simm as the Master again.

I didn't watch, but Colleen becoming the Iron First is probably the most interesting thing to come from that show. If anything, it could probably spark Daughters of the Dragon with Colleen and Misty. But idk if that'll actually happen. Which sucks because that is a show I'd be interested in, for sure.

I honestly don't know. I've seen some express concern about this, should it ever happen, because would that mean the shows would have to censor or tone back their content? While Disney as a corporation owns a lot of things that aren't necessarily kid or family-friendly in content, some are still concerned that there might be content control regardless. But I'm not really an expert on this, I just know that people are overall concerned about Disney taking control of everything, which is understandable.

I've had a rather complicated relationship with Doctor Who. It's been on and off with me for various reasons. But with this new era, with not only a new Doctor but new everything, I'm just enjoying it so far. I'm hoping it's not just a honeymoon phase and it continues to be awesome.

RE: "Daughters of the Dragon" - I'd totally be here for that! But I fear that won't happen.

Well, my problem with New Who is that I never cared for its showrunners. RTD and Moffat, while having some good ideas, also did some super problematic things. Given that I do not have much regard for Chibnall as a writer, I'm surprised how well this season is going so far. I hope it continues to do so.
