rogueslayer452++ With the news about the possibility of a Black Widow movie (which I'll believe it when I see it, since Marvel has constantly flip-flopped on this for years now), I've been thinking about other ways that her story could be told. Instead of a film, I would much prefer a television series based on a young Natasha and her training in the Black Widow program. Her backstory is fascinating in itself, and I think a show would be more suitable for focusing and exploring those elements of her story than a feature film. Then again, I've always believed that certain stories are much better fitted for television anyway since film can be quite limiting. Plus, it would give us a chance to see someone else take on the character of Natasha Romanova, especially a young Natasha.
++ Agents of SHIELD is considered to be the highest top-rated Marvel show on Rotten Tomatoes to date, followed closely by Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. Seeing it has five seasons so far and has continued to just get better and stronger as it goes on, that very impressive. Well-deserved, imho.
++ There is going to be a new Freeform show called Siren that I am intrigued by. I am fascinated with mermaids along with other mythological creatures, and anything that explores the darker side of mermaid lore is something right up my alley. In general, I like things that challenge the way society and mainstream media has altered to be innocent when in actuality they are darker and much more frightening, particularly if it includes body horror. Mermaids, angels, fairies, most fairytale stories, etc. Granted, I know this series will most likely not be the thriller that I probably want it to be, but I'm intrigued by the concept nonetheless.
++ I had just heard about the whole Heathers television show remake, and now Charmed is officially getting a reboot on the CW, both which are completely unnecessary. Look, this has obviously been mentioned before plenty of times by myself and others, but to reiterate: I'm just so tired of all these reboots/remakes/revivals. True, some of them can be rather decent and even prove themselves to work really well, but those are really rare and let's be honest most of the time all these remakes/revivals are nothing more than just unimaginative money-grabbers that add nothing new. Every single time I hear news about a previous show possibly getting a revival or a reboot made, I inwardly cringe. Not everything needs to be revived, not everything needs to have a remake. Just because it is the current trend right now doesn't mean everyone needs to follow it.

I heard they will do another Sabrina the Teenage Witch à la Buffy, and this came from Melissa Joan Hart directly. I don't know what I feel about it either. I liked the campyness of the original.
With the amount of remakes and such in both TV AND movies, you'd think Hollywood's originality went down the drain or something. That and the endless sequels lately... Or pulling out one character and making a whole entire movie/show about him/her...

Date: 2018-01-27 10:04 pm (UTC)Yeah, I think it's going to turn into another one of those melodramatic teen dramas, which is fine if that is the demographic they're going for, but I really want some kind of fantasy thriller of mermaids getting back at humans for mistreating them or misrepresenting them, etc. The trailer implied that at least some of the story will probably be about that, though idk about the rest. Still, it looks interesting to at least check out.

Remember when they attempted to do a reboot of Buffy in 2010 or something? Thankfully, it never happened because the script was really bad so they scrapped it entirely, but that whole ordeal was a mess. It was Buffy just without anything resembling BTVS at all, none of the universe or lore or anything, which is ridiculous. The same thing is happening with Charmed in that it's just in-name-only. All of this is what I call lazy. If you want to do a show about sisters being witches, make an original show instead of trying to bank off of what was already successful.

This one is a bit different because Sabrina Spellman is a comic book character from Archie Comics. Sabrina the Teenage Witch with Melissa Joan Hart was based off of the character from the comics but not a direct adaptation. This new show is going to be focusing on being an adaptation of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chilling_Adventures_of_Sabrina). So, this isn't necessarily a remake of MJH's Sabrina but just another adaptation of the comic book character, which I'm completely fine with and I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with it.

That's what's been said for decades now. Remakes, reboots, revivals, endless sequels and franchises, there's been both a fatigue and a demand for them on and off for years. Hollywood and mainstream media are stuck in this neverending cycle of remaining in nostalgia because that is the safest space to be to rack in that cash. They would rather do that than risk something new. And the sad thing is? So many people buy into it. Revivals are the newest thing in television because so many people get manipulated by the nostalgia of seeing characters again.

I thought this could have gone ok and no need to take Charmed and do something else with it. I don't like that they'll take the name and do something else entirely.
I do not remember seeing anything or hearing anything about a Buffy reboot. A Giles series and a Faith series, which I have heard of for years would have been very awesome, however. I know Eliza refused the faith one to do either Tru Calling or Dollhouse though.
I was a huge fan of the Archie comics but not Sabrina. I actually didn't know there were Sabrina comics. I know she was in some of the Archie comics however. I have to say I am curious about it.
There are so many books that could be turned into series or movies, it's crazy that the demand is much bigger on remakes/reboots and continued sequels that, let's be honest, aren't all that great but sometimes are... One movie franchise I like is Bring It On. The first is a classic, I dislike the second, I adore the third with Hayden Panettiere, the 4rth was ok. I liked the 5th and thought the 6th was meh. Better than the second but they could have just not made it.

Date: 2018-01-28 02:14 am (UTC)Oh yeah, that was kind of a huge deal (http://buffy.wikia.com/wiki/Untitled_Buffy_theatrical_reboot) at the time of the announcement. Many fans were upset about it as were most of the cast and crew from the show. Thankfully, nothing came from it, but it does put questions on whether anyone would even dare to try to do this again. There are just some things you shouldn't touch, y'know?
Eliza wanted to take a break from being Faith to do other things at the time (Tru Calling), but said she was game for doing a Faith spin-off sometime in the future. I honestly wish they would revisit that. Same with the Giles spin-off, since I kept hearing about it throughout the years. I think most fans kind of want to see either of those, even if it's just a limited series or something. I know that they could just do so in the comics, but it would be amazing to have something on the screen.

I wasn't even aware she was based on a comic book character, which is hilarious in hindsight since at the beginning of every episode of the show it would say "based on the character from Archie Comics", lol.

Exactly, or anyone who has an original idea for a movie or television show concept. There are just so many original story ideas out there that deserve to be told on the big or small screen, but Hollywood is all about the safety net of remakes and sequels to give a damn about those. Why risk something different and original when you can have the same old shit time and again?
One of my favorite movie franchises was Resident Evil. Sure, it didn't resemble much of the video games but after the first film it wasn't intending too. It was just some entertaining action movie surrounding zombies and Milla Jovovich kicking ass and taking names. They weren't perfect, but damn I was all about that franchise so much. I'm hoping that the new Tomb Raider movie based on the reboot of the video game ends up becoming a film franchise too.

I wouldn't say no to a reunion of sort, like a two parter or whatever, just to give us an idea where they all are now... you know, even if they are up to season 11 in comics (which I haven't read at all yet even though I want to) but otherwise... Leave Buffy alone!
Oh right, it was for Tru Calling. Oops. They could still do it, that spin-off, I mean. For Giles's, it was supposed to be during his Ripper days, I think. That could be kinda harder to do unless they take somebody else completely to play the younger Giles.
It's funny how they referred to Sabrina basing her from the Archie comics if there were comics centered on her to begin with. I remember her in some Archie stories. Having short white-ish hair with a headband and Salem, her cat always around as well. She lived in quite the ordinary house where she never really invited people in, if memory serves. it's been sooooooo long since i read those comics.
Oh yes, resident Evil. I didn't know the video games at the time the first movie came out but I loved the movie and I have followed that franchise since. I bought the very last movie today too. And I'm not really interested in the games.
