that's a really grand post, and it sums everything up perfectly! i had such low expectations for this movie, and i came out stunned with how much love and excitement i felt for it (i've called a fandom-minded friend the moment i was out of the theater, and literally said 'wheeeeeeeee!' into her ear, hah). it IS a reboot, and it's exactly what it needed to be - star wars with diverse cast and ALL THE WOMAN and new beautiful sights and living, breathing relationships between its living, breathing characters.
i've been worried about how the olden trio would be handled, but the new kids were so amazing, together and apart, that i'm now fine with the old guard going down with dignity, one by one. and this ending shot of luke, with waves and seagulls and flutes piping? oh, be still my heart.
