WH13: Season 4 Premiere Thoughts

rogueslayer452There are many thoughts swirling around in my head after that premiere, but basically what it can be summed up to as:
That shit blew my mind.
I mean, I knew that they would fix the Warehouse from being destroyed somehow, but with the outcome of how they were to achieve that, let alone the aftermath, I totally didn't see coming.
Poor Artie. Only he remembers, and that shit is gonna haunt him for the duration of the season.
Particularly because of this supposedly ominous darkness following him as a result of him using the artifact to reset time. We don't know what that is yet, but the show is somehow alluding it to be involved with Claudia somehow. But that could be entirely misleading because it's never quite what it seems. I'm guessing it has something to do with the brotherhood that kept the artifact safe. Since he came back with it (obviously), it is no longer hidden and they might be coming after him? I'm wondering how that will work, but nonetheless I have a feeling this is going to be a heavy season for Artie.
Same for Claudia, because my baby girl is going through some dark times right now.
I knew that they were going to head into this direction with her arc. That's not a bad thing, and I'm not complaining. Even though I am worried about my girl, I know that this is a necessary thing for her character to go through. It would have been too easy to have her overcome the grief and pain she felt after what happened with Steve. She's been hurt too deep for it to just magically disappear. She was already slowly spinning downward after what happened in the finale with Steve's death, and her hatred towards the Regents. Can you imagine if she also would remember what happened in that alternative timeline, and realizing that Artie saved the day and everyone got their loved ones back except for her? We knew before that she knew that regardless of them saving the Warehouse, they wouldn't be able to save Steve, and she was ready to give up then and there before Artie and Myka and Pete convinced her otherwise that they needed her, that there was still hope. She doesn't have that. After everything that went down, Claudia is still in that mindset. She even warned Artie before the reset that their talk about Steve wasn't over, and it isn't.
Overall yes, I am scared for my girl, but at the same time I am excited for this particular arc. I am excited for the potential character development and seeing where she goes from this experience, and how this will affect her relationships with the other characters. Especially between herself and Artie, because of their surrogate father-daughter relationship, and with him having that dream/premonition of her possibility being what the brotherhood warned him about, you know shit is gonna go down.
I'm also wondering if this will have an relation to her particular destiny connected to the Warehouse. I do want the show to bring that up again, because it seemed very important at the time it was introduced and I want to believe that somehow, it will be brought up again.
As for the rest of what happened in the premiere.....
++ Seeing Pete die was very hard to watch. I'm glad that time was reset so he's fine and doesn't have to remember, but jfc that was really upsetting to see happen. :(
++ H.G. WELLS IS ALIVE! SHE IS ALIVE, AND ARTIE ENDORSED HER TO BE REINSTATED AS A WAREHOUSE AGENT AGAIN. WHICH MEANS THAT SHE IS STILL THERE. THAT HER CHARACTER MAY BE RECURRING SO SHE AND MYKA CAN GET ON WITH THEIR LADY LOVING. ;D I mean I know that Jaime has her new show Defiance and everything, but she can still pop in every once and a while. That is why such an opening was left for her character, right? BECAUSE THE FANS LOVE HER AND THE SHOW LOVES HER AND MYKA LOVES HER AND GDI SHE NEEDS TO COME BACK FOR MORE EPISODES THIS SEASON, BECAUSE I WANT TO SEE HER BEING ACCEPTED BY THE WAREHOUSE FAMILY WITHOUT FEAR AND EVERYTHING AND POSSIBLY WITH HER KNOWING THAT ARTIE DID SOMETHING AND WON'T PUSH HIM BUT TO LET HIM KNOW THAT SHE KNOWS WHAT IT'S LIKE TO KEEP A SECRET AND THAT WOULD OPEN UP A NEW LEVEL OF COMMUNICATION AND UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THEM THAT THEY'VE NEVER HAD BEFORE. AND SHE COULD ALSO BE A CONSOLING FIGURE FOR CLAUDIA IF SHE SHOULD CHOOSE TO CONFIDE IN SOMEONE WITH HER GRIEF, AND JUST, OMG THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS OKAY. THIS IS WHY WE WANT HER TO BE RECURRING, SHOW. PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE.
ALSO WE WANT HER SPIN-OFF PREQUEL SERIES LIKE, YESTERDAY. BUT BABY STEPS, SHOW. BABY STEPS
++ Mrs. Fredrick is alive, but scarily suspicious of Artie. I knew she would be, but she is definitely not pleased with whatever he is hiding and sooner or later she will find out what exactly he did.
++ While this premiere was darker, as the show has been going in that direction lately, they didn't skimp on having moments of comedy. From Pete's witty remarks and improvises to the adorable banter between Claudia and Artie ("Pooh Bear" commentary made me laugh so hard, tbh), just adding some humor to lighten the mood of the whole episode.
++ What I loved about this premiere was how even by repairing something using an artifact, there will be grave consequences. This is a default morality tale of any kind of artifact they deal with, but when it comes to using it in a dire situation like Artie did, he knows that shit is going down but he doesn't know the gravity of what those consequences might be. He may be ready to take them on, whatever they are, because it was for the greater good of saving the Warehouse and saving the world from spinning into chaos, but he might not like what those consequences might include. Esp if it includes those closest to him (re: Claudia and her damaged mental state right now, and where that might lead her.) And I am loving it. A+++++ premiere all around, setting up for what I can only predict to be an amazing season.
I've said this before, but this show started out being my fun, lighthearted quirky feel good kind of show, and has since gradually turned the tables and gone into darker, more dramatic and heavier arcs. This is not a criticism or complaint, but rather a compliment because I don't think any other show could have pulled it off as nicely as WH13 has. Because this shift in direction was so organically done, nothing seems out of place. What characters went through, the things they encountered, it was all part of the story and the mood of the show changed with them because of it, and it fits so perfectly when you look back at how it transitioned in such a way. It's impressive, and the show deserves all the praise for pulling it off beautifully as they've done.
Which is why I am anticipating what this season is gonna bring. They gave an excellent setup already, so I can't wait to see how it plays out.
