Revolution

Our entire way of life depends on electricity. So what would happen if it just stopped working? Well, one day, like a switch turned off, the world is suddenly thrust back into the dark ages. Planes fall from the sky, hospitals shut down, and communication is impossible. And without any modern technology, who can tell us why? Now, 15 years later, life is back to what it once was long before the industrial revolution: families living in quiet cul-de-sacs, and when the sun goes down lanterns and candles are lit. Life is slower and sweeter. Or is it? On the fringes of small farming communities, danger lurks. And a young woman’s life is dramatically changed when a local militia arrives and kills her father, who mysteriously – and unbeknownst to her – had something to do with the blackout. This brutal encounter sets her and two unlikely companions off on a daring coming-of-age journey to find answers about the past in the hopes of reclaiming the future.

Honestly, while everyone else is freaking out about this, I'm just not really feeling it.

Which is odd because I love me some post-apocalyptic stories of humanity's struggle from some kind of downfall involving technology or some similar kind of catastrophe. Everything from Battlestar Galactica, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Falling Skies, Dollhouse and Dark Angel, hell even Firefly where humanity is spread out amongst different planets, just surviving with what they got. I like these kinds of stories, whether it be from an invasion of robotic or alien races or just the human race destroying itself with overusing and abusing technology landing us in a dystopian future. But while the concept of Revolution sounds interesting, from the trailer it doesn't look appealing to me at all. Perhaps it's the way it was edited, since there are scenes in there that rather silly and corny and the dialogue is not really good (it's being written by Eric Kripke, so that might be why, since I'm not a fan of his.) It just seems too unrealistic and convoluted, tbqh. I don't know. But, who knows right? It might turn out to actually be good once it gets going. But by first impressions of this trailer, I'm just not that interested.

(Plus I lol'd when they used "Touched" at the end of the trailer, I'm just like what is this? I'm having flashbacks to 1999 in promotion for Angel, lololol)

I'm not feeling it either. (In fact, I was happy to find a post on reddit where everyone was complaining about the LACK OF SCIENCE behind the premise, because it seemed like Tumblr was too busy fangirling over the creators to notice the trailer was actually ... quite lackluster.) But yeah, the sword fighting scenes, the way too gorgeous and clean actors, the fact that whole cities have been taken over by vegetation after only a few years... Plus the video has some weird SciFi Channel, made-for-TV-movie quality to it. :\

Yes! Thank you!

The lack of any sort of science kills me, because even if there's no electricity that shouldn't stop science from happening, or that people would suddenly stop caring about taking care of things. It's kind of insulting watching the trailer seeing that fifteen years into the future people suddenly went back to the Dark Ages which, no, that wouldn't happen. Nor would the clean-cut way everyone looks. It is just too unrealistic for me, because it doesn't even look like they're surviving. Just pretty people with swords that suddenly know how to fight and all of that. Just, what? ISSUES EVERYWHERE I CAN'T EVEN.

It's like Kripke went "oh hey let's have ~family issues~ with sword fighting" and J.J. Abrams went "hey let's have a LOST-esque future" which resulted into this.

I don't know if it'll be good or bad, or just watchable but not that memorable. But this is definitely not going to be the show for me. Already I'm complaining about things just from the trailer and description alone, imagine me actually watching it and complaining every five minutes with the far-fetchness of the whole thing, lol.
