Some 6.20 spoilers.
Mar. 27th, 2011 10:58 amI want to thank
squishyball for directing me to these spoilers the other day, although I can't say they did good for my fangirl heart. So if you're like me, you'll compose yourself before reading those first and then join me for some capslocking and general talk about them.
WHUT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO TO ME SHOW? SRSLY.

I mean seriously, how much more does Castiel have to suffer on this show? I mean granted Supernatural always carries the angst ad nauseum and I do like angst when it's appropriate, but this season he's been carrying an entire burden and weight on his shoulders and not even Dean or Sam bother on even trying to help him with, or find the courtesy of asking earlier on about his war or empathize with what he has been doing when he isn't constantly with them 24/7 (LOOKING AT YOU DEAN, BEING AN INSENSITIVE JERKOFF TO YOUR BOYFRIEND >:|) I honestly believe that Castiel has been wearing thin for a long while now, just barely hanging on and whatever is happening he has to make tough decisions based on these relationships of his. Either his relationship with the Winchesters or with Balthazar and the rest of his brothers, what is right and what he must do, and obviously this episode will be an overview of how his entire existence has been shifted and changed due to these relationships, but it makes me wonder what this heartbreak will be and what causes it, either what decision/choices he makes or something is done to him, idk. It makes me fear the worst, tbh. It's gonna break me and with the other previous spoilers regarding Castiel for the duration of the season...especially with the finale, I just, I don't know what to think right now.
CAN'T THEY ALL JUST FUCKING HUG IT OUT AND BE FRIENDS AGAIN? AND DEAN WILL APOLOGIZE TO HIS ANGEL BF AND THEY CAN GET BACK TO THEIR ~PROFOUND BONDING~ AND ALL THAT JAZZ? CAN'T WE HAVE HAPPY-SLIGHTLY-CONFUSED-ABOUT-HUMANITY CAS BACK PLZ? WHY MUST HE BE SUFFERING RIGHT NOW, LOOKING TIRED AND EXHAUSTED AND SO WORN OUT READY TO DO WHATEVER IN DEFEAT? I JUST, I CANT. MY POOR BB. ;___;
FOR SOME REASON, I PERSONALLY THINK SOMEONE IN CASTIEL'S LITTLE ANGELICAL RECRUITED GROUP WILL BETRAY HIM, ESP BASED ON THE OTHER SPOILERS THAT HE DOESN'T KNOW WHO TO TRUST, AKA THE "RELUCTANT ALLY" BIT. D: D: D: D:
EDLUND, YOU GENIUS MASTERMIND. YOU BRING THE BRILLIANCE TO EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO. ILU BUT DAMN, YOU WILL BRING THE CREYS IN THIS ONE. ;____;

The heartbreak really begins with “The Man Who Would Be King,” the first episode being directed by fan-fave writer Ben Edlund. “It’s the story of Castiel looking over his life, and then it turns into Castiel looking into his relationships,” he says. “If it does it’s job, it’ll break your heart.”

Date: 2011-03-28 02:34 am (UTC)The rift is unnecessary, imo. I like having character angst when needed, but they haven't bothered explaining why Dean has been acting the way he has been towards Castiel and it makes me sad and angry that they aren't bothering with maintaining that continuity between the two. It's not like they haven't confided or dealt with their separate problems that are inadvertently connected to each other before (re: the fourth season, for example) and I miss showing their friendship and bonding moments. I do hope in the remaining episodes we see amends happening, but I feel like even that is asking too much from the show anymore. *sighs*

Date: 2011-03-28 05:25 am (UTC)That's an interesting question. It's actually something that makes me wonder of how much of a writer's influence can affect the overall feel of a show, the continuity and relationships between characters, since when certain writers leave shows there can definitely be a noticeable shift in how things are being handled, at least sometimes in certain shows. It just is really concerning to me how much we rely on knowing who writes episodes and whether they are worth watching or not, particularly with this season. Hmmmm.
I don't understand it and I feel like the show will never explain why, or give proper resolution to it.
And yes, ITA about Gamble just not giving a fuck. Since you know, she is all about SammySammySammy all the time. :/

Date: 2011-03-28 06:27 am (UTC)Oh, and I definitely hear you about the amount of what we see between Dean and Castiel and their chemistry is definitely based on Misha and Jensen. Because they add so much more to their characters than what's just written on the script. It wouldn't be eyefucking, it would just be sheer hatred if it was anyone else in those roles. :/
Actually, you know what else is interesting? I don't think I started paying attention to who wrote what episode (or who was going to write what episode) until the second half of S5... which is basically when it started going downhill. :\
Same here! Usually with my fandoms I don't pay that close attention to who is writing an episode because mostly there's a fluidity in consistency that there's no need to be concerned. Whereas with Supernatural it's so painfully obvious of the writers not even staying in sync with each other or the story because episodes can switch from being good one week to absolutely horrible the next. And yes, this is very noticeable since the latter half of last season when things started declining in quality of the writing and direction. And I think many people are noticing this too, which should say something about how downhill everything has gotten because of the shifts and changes not just with the showrunner but adding new writers who don't know the show into the mix.

Date: 2011-03-28 07:38 am (UTC)I don't watch much TV but when I do I never notice writers. But when I started watching SPN, I was like..is this normal? lol This season especially has been painfully obvious about the differences in writing. Sometimes it's like watching a totally different show each week lol
I really hope if there's a season 7 they weed out the bad writers. Because it's obvious some of them just aren't good with knowing the characters. The characterization this season has been cringe worthy at times. And I pray to God Ben stays on or there's no hope. Imo, he's the best writer there. And it's not because of his slashy moments. He's just talented and knows how to write the characters very well and consistently.

Date: 2011-03-28 08:46 am (UTC)Ben Edlund is the only writer that I trust on this show anymore. He just gets it, he understands how to manage and meld story and characters and bringing so much to the script and direction of what is happening. He's my hero, and the show's only hope. I pray that he becomes showrunner next season, even as unlikely as that may be. Because I see no other person capable of handling this show and giving it a satisfactory ending it deserves.
