Frak this shit.
Oct. 27th, 2010 04:14 pmSyfy cancels Caprica.
I majorly disappointed right now. Disappointed in the network because after all the success of BSG you'd think they would at least give them another season before making such a decision, along with their stupid decision on prolonging the mid-season hiatus. But I think I'm mostly disappointed in the BSG fandom. Fans were huge over there and after the series finale it seemed like there's hardly anyone left, at least from my observations anyway. Some still hold bitter feelings towards it or for whatever reason so I guess that they figured they wouldn't give this a chance, I don't know, but I think it's unfair. Granted this wasn't going to be the same as BSG, everyone knew that, but I felt like people should have given it a chance to develop and grow and seeing with how epic it's been lately this just is a huge disappointment to me.
I'm still gonna fight it, though. I don't care that's an official announcement. I'm gonna email Syfy, I'm gonna try and make a petition, get people to watch it. If there's one thing I've learned is that us fans have a voice and we have to power to bring something back if we work hard enough.
Contact Syfy via email (feedback@syfy.com) and tell them to reconsider. Please.

Date: 2010-10-27 11:24 pm (UTC)What is it about? Should I watch it? Granted, I'm still in the middle of the first season of BSG, but...

Date: 2010-10-27 11:31 pm (UTC)I just wished that people would have given it more time. It's been absolutely brilliant in the second half of the season that I felt like there was a for sure way it would at least be considered a renewal. I'm just, my heart sank in my stomach when I read the news.

Date: 2010-10-28 12:07 am (UTC)But after the announcement of another BSG prequel (Blood and Chrome) they probably thought they needed only one BSG-related show to be airing. Which is fucking stupid, imo.

Date: 2010-10-27 11:52 pm (UTC)Not to mention that Caprica has gotten tons of positive reviews. So I don't understand this at all.
But contacting them through email or Twitter, petitioning is something I feel could give them the message that yes, we want another season. At least one more season if anything.

Date: 2010-10-27 11:55 pm (UTC)I still maintain some ounce of hope that, if we put our voices out there we can do something about this.

Date: 2010-10-28 01:33 am (UTC)This is just bullcrap. This is one of the better written and smarter shows out there. I was looking forward to seeing how it'll unfold, the pace was picking up and it was getting so good, and Syfy decides to cancel it.
Fuck you, Syfy.

Date: 2010-10-28 01:39 am (UTC)I wrote to them, passionately expressing my disappointment and hopefully everyone else is doing the same. We need to let our voices be heard because this? Is fucking bullshit. I know shows get canceled all the time, but this is SYFY. When a new show premieres they usually allow it to have another season before making such a decision. Some are saying its because another BSG prequel, Blood and Chrome, has been greenlit and they cannot have two prequels at once or something? Still it's just fucking bullshit.

Date: 2010-10-28 05:42 am (UTC)That scene with Sam and the Cylon almost made me have a heart attack. That's the sort of thing the show was leading up to. The reason it was so effective is because they laid the groundwork. We know Sam, we know where the Cylons came from and how and why, and we know what they're going to do in the future, so that scene is just mindblowing.

Date: 2010-10-28 09:30 am (UTC)Exactly! Not to mention them switching it from Fridays to Tuesdays, and that threw me off even when I did know they were back. What I don't understand is that this is a prequel to their biggest and most successful series they had, so why couldn't they have at least given it the proper support and treatment to ensure it would be watched? Between the hiatus, the day change and now the news of them actually not airing the rest of the episodes until next year? What the hell does that say?
I emailed Syfy and told them just that (but more eloquently) because it really is unfair. I mean, they renewed Haven (another show I watch) and that's a new show, had some struggles, but cannot show the same kind of consideration for Caprica? Something isn't right about that....
We know Sam, we know where the Cylons came from and how and why, and we know what they're going to do in the future, so that scene is just mindblowing.
I know, that scene was chilling and mindblowing all at once because it really was phenomenal how they could fit all that together. And the thing is, this is a character/family drama that is setting up these events for what we know is gonna happen, and we've been gradually developing that and with all this groundwork that is building towards what we know is the inevitable, you cannot do that in the limited amount of episodes they have left. I want to explore the worlds more and the different cultures, other characters and their relationships, the politics and the laws and religious philosophies and how it all ties together. Everything is so complex in this show, it's perhaps one of the few well-written and well-executed shows on their network.
Someone mentioned that it could be because of Blood and Chrome being greenlit, however I don't think it would have mattered if there were two prequels of the BSG universe featured on their network. They had SG1 and SGA airing at the same time! Why can't they with these two, come on.

Date: 2010-10-28 06:23 am (UTC)I have the first two episodes ready to finally start watching when I'm back from Asylum 5. Now at least I know I shouldn't get too attached to the show.

Date: 2010-10-28 11:39 am (UTC)They're renewing WH13, Haven and Eureka, but not Caprica the prequel to their most successful (and completed) series? The frak is that bullshit? D:
I'm emailing the network, signing petitions, spreading the word because dammit I want our voices to be heard.

Date: 2010-10-28 01:02 pm (UTC)What do you want to bet they would buy the DVD set one day on a whim, realize how good it was, and then realize they can't watch any more of it because they didn't watch it the first time?

Date: 2010-10-28 03:11 pm (UTC)I don't doubt that's exactly what will happen, and it's sad and disappointing to even think about how stubborn people will be until they actually see it in its entirety.
I think what makes me even more disappointed is how people immediately think that just because it's a prequel and that we "already know what's gonna happen" that they can't watch it. I've seen those arguments and it kind of ticks me off because there's nothing more compelling than seeing how that domino effect took place.
