So. LiveJournal decided that they are no longer accepting "/" in their tags, which means everything in the tagging system for pairings and others including the forwardslash is completely nonfunctional, thus making things even harder to identify and locate.

NOT COOL ELJAY, NOT COOL AT ALL. FIX THIS ASAP OR FEEL THE WRATH OF MANY USERS.

*silently fumes at douchenozzles responsible*

ETA: It seems like this was an unintentional fluke and they are currently working on fixing it, so problem somewhat averted. Although many of the new features added seem to be of much annoyance, and rightfully so. Sometimes when they add something new it can be something I don't care for so I ignore it, but it seems like they keep adding new stuff that isn't really necessary and without options of turning it off and yeah, it's understandably annoying.

Me too. I'm hoping it gets fixed back to normal soon because many people aren't happy with this setup. I feel most terrible for all the pairing communities out there. :(

I HAVE A PARTICULAR TING WITH THE SLASHES, OKAY? IT LOOKS PRETTIER AND MORE ORGANIZED AS OPPOSED TO USES "X" OR "&" OR ANYTHING ELSE. NOW THINGS ARE GONNA BE FUCKED UP IF THIS IS PART OF THEIR NEW POINTLESS FEATURES.

Hmm...I just posted my White Collar squee and my Neal/Peter tag worked fine. Is it just when trying to add a new tag?

I tried all my slash-tags (Dean/Castiel tag (http://rogueslayer452.livejournal.com/tag/dean%2Fcastiel) for example) and it doesn't do anything. Although it makes me wonder if they added something new to the features it messed something up with the system so old tags aren't recognized, but if you make a new forwardslash tag it might work? idk

Huh. I'm confuzzled. All my old / tags are showing up. My Dean/Cas one came up fine.

The tags still show up on entries and in the list of tags, but if you click on them, you get an "unhandled error" message. You can't click on them and get the entries with that tag on it.

ETA:: This is the case for me, anyway. If they are somehow magically working for you then I am jealous. :\

THEY EXPECT US TO DO MOAR TIME CONSUMING WORK I GUESS, IDK.

I'm hoping this is actually a temporary fluke when they were adding on the new features and it screwed something up in the system, otherwise they are going to be facing a shitload of angry people.

From: [identity profile] callie-828.livejournal.com
It has to be a fluke. IT HAS TO BE. What could possibly be the benefit of eliminating forward slashes in tags?

Date: 2010-09-01 04:14 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] alexwhitman25.livejournal.com
A-HA! So you can still tag the entries, but you get an error when you click said tag to display all entries with that tag. I was confused and thought that it wouldn't display the tag when you tried to insert it in an entry.

And I have no magical powers since upon further investigation it is doing that for me as well. *sigh*

Just read in the news post comments that it is an unintentional issue. They are working on it but have no estimated timeframe when a fix will be done.

From: [identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com
Oh well, that's good. At least they're working on fixing the problem. I kinda figured it would be something of a fluke, otherwise it would have been kinda ridiculous.

I wish they would stop changing the tags. Didn't they just change something else where they made the spaces in tags go from + to %20 when you type it in to the address bar or have a saved link?

And what is with the Facebook and Twitter thing? I don't get it.

Date: 2010-09-01 04:59 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com
I think so, but it seems like they're attempting to fix this problem that was deemed unintentional, although when it'll go back to normal they aren't sure. But at least it'll be fixed, so that's something.

I don't get the Facebook/Twitter thing either. Also I don't get the function of pingbacks. *is confused*

What I don't get is the whole facebook/Twitter thing. What would you crosspost from that?!

And I hope they get the / thing fixed soon! It's very annoying.

I don't get it either, especially the Twitter thing. O_o

I agree, it is very annoying although I think it happened today so the fact that they're getting on it immediately is a good thing. Although I think they should listen to what people are saying about the new add-ons with the FB/Twitter and this thing of Pingbacks when I have no idea what all that is about.

Unfortunately this isn't the first time LJ has created some shenanigans like this, and it certainly won't be the last.

What I don't get is why they're adding these new features without notifying their users beforehand, or taking votes on whether this could benefit us and if there should be an option for those that want new features or not. I mean, the whole connection thing with FB/Twitter is certainly not something a lot of people want, with keeping themselves separate from their IRL communications. I mean, it's a nice thought, but a little consideration would be nice.

'I mean, it's a nice thought, but a little consideration would be nice.'

I completely agree, but that would require them to think things through and it doesn't seem like they do that most of the time.

UGH. FUCKING LJ. Why don't you just own up to your shit for once? Everything they do seems to be "unintentional flukes" when the majority of folk rage about it.
ALSO OMG, I DID NOT REALIZE THEY FUCKED WITH MY TAGS TOO. JESUS ON A POGOSTICK. How am I supposed to get my fangirl time on in my fic comms????

Date: 2010-09-02 04:37 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com
IRRITATION, CAN YOU FEELS IT?! >:O

They're attempting to fix the tags bit but everything else it seems like they're "compiling comments" (http://news.livejournal.com/129190.html?thread=87522726#t87522726) in order to make a decision on what needs to be changed when it's abundantly clear that nobody wants this feature. I think the main frustration for me is that they seem to update the site without really notifying us about what they're adding as new features. Wouldn't it be better if they were to ask people whether they wanted this feature in the first place, or anything else they try to update with? It seems rather inconsiderate.
