This is where things get interesting.
Jul. 19th, 2010 02:01 pmMore Legend of the Seeker news: from this post here gives details about how to contact STARZ, since it seems the more people expressing their demands about wanting the show the more probable it'll become a surefire deal. Still not getting my hopes up just yet, but from the sound of things this definitely looks promising especially from the report the poster gave about talking to someone from the network there was so optimism there. *still crossing fingers*
In other news, M. Night Shyamalan continues to be a douchebag. Also, this is the first I've heard of him possibly having been close to directing the Harry Potter movies. I shudder to imagine how that would have turned out...
I still haven't read any spoilers whatsoever and I'd like to keep it that way so please don't tell me anything, but judging from people's reactions to what has been released I think I might take a break from Supernatural for a while? I don't know. I've just not been incredibly enthusiastic about anything with the sixth season, the fact that they even have a sixth season leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. This is what I dreaded would happen, actually. I want to be reassured that this is just an over-exaggeration, that it's not as bad as it seems to be, but I can't help but feel I'm going to be in disappointment and rage with whatever is being planned for it, and mostly because of Sera Gamble but that's another rant altogether. They really should have ended it properly with the Apocalypse, because right now I'm just kind of over the Sam and Dean melodramatics. I'd take an angel mythology spin-off over hearing the same-old Winchester angsty manpain anyday, to be brutally honest with you.
I'm not leaving fandom or anything, this is just how I'm feeling lately. It might change, it might not, only time will tell. I'm still sticking around, especially in the Dean/Castiel and Castiel/Misha Collins parts of fandom because, how can I not? I love you guys, sfm. ♥
This is half the reason why I've been going to other fandoms more recently, to kind of get my mind away from possible trainwreckage and onto new shiny toys. Which, btw,
himhilien? Totally am downloading all of Avatar: The Last Airbender right now. I planned on doing that anyway since I am really liking the series, though since we no longer have OnDemand I can no longer see the random bubble trivia pop-ups. So I has a sad. :(

Date: 2010-07-21 05:30 pm (UTC)That would make sense, although I sort of counted the episodes this last season and there seems to be more filler eps in the fourth season than in the fifth season. Or at least had episodes that dealt with the overall plot in some way, some more than others. I mostly think it was the overall structure of them handling the outcome rather than the types of episodes, honestly, which wasn't as well-done as S4 had it. Even though they really need to space out the fillers throughout rather than having them all clumped together (and air directly after a hiatus break, which they often do time and again which isn't that great of a comeback, imo).
As for the fans wanting just Sam and Dean hunting monsters every week, I've always chalked some of that up to the fanbase being rather young (the CW has the youngest demographic on all the major networks in general) and not really caring about storytelling and caring more about how hot the characters are.
Oh believe me, I've run across those kinds of fans before who only care if a.) Supernatural lasts forever and ever because it is their favorite show and don't want to see it go and b.) Jared and Jensen stay on because they are like, omg so totally hawt! Which kind of gives the impression some of the fanbase only care about the show for the boys not less about the storytelling. In fact, I had gotten into an argument with a fan here on LJ who stated upfront that she didn't even care about the story, just as long as Sam and Dean continue doing what they're doing.
Which again, gives the impression that only shallow fangirls watch the show, just for the pretty (and that separates them from those who watch shows like Gossip Girl, how?) For me, that is not the reason I started watching the show at all. There might be pretty, but there needs to be substance involved with the story/plot/mythology in order for me to keep watching.

Date: 2010-07-21 06:08 pm (UTC)Same here. I might have started watching the show for Cas but that really had less to do with how hot he was and more to do with his kick ass entrance and he's the kind of character I find interesting. The fact that Misha has great chemistry with Jensen didn't hurt; those two could read the phone book to each other and I'd watch.

Oh, I've run into those fans more time than I care to count. I know there are fans like that in pretty much every fandom but they seem awfully vocal in this one.

Haha... tell me about it.

If I wanted to watch a show just for the pretty I'd watch pretty much anything else on the CW. There's a reason Supernatural is the only CW show I watch.

Date: 2010-07-21 06:41 pm (UTC)Oh, definitely. It's because of the angel storyline added into the main mythology that peaked my interest in the show again. Because hello, badass motherfucking angels being all smitey and badass on this show? It was about time they added that element! Though, I am very into theological parts of mythology so my excitement level for having Castiel and the other angels really sky-rocketed. Plus it also helped not just with Dean and Castiel's chemistry with each other, but also seeing the gradual development of Castiel's character over the course of the fourth season.

They're definitely a bit more vocal, which I think it has to do with Jared and Jensen being the only main characters on the show until most recently, which would attract more women audiences, apparently. Hence why they mainly go for them and not anything else.

This actually makes me miss the good 'ole days before CW was created. You know, the WB had some pretty solid shows back in the day. I think Supernatural is kind of the replacement of what Buffy the Vampire Slayer did for the WB network, adding that paranormal element to their general tween/teen/reality shows or whatever else they have.

I know. I still miss Angel the Series; I find it funny that that show was canceled when it had about five million viewers and Down O would KILL for those kind of numbers now.

Date: 2010-07-22 07:58 pm (UTC)Yeah, which would explain why she's kind of stretching and keeping Supernatural around despite it all. All about the money and the viewers, who cares about the story as long as more people watch your network!

Date: 2010-07-22 08:55 pm (UTC)Well, she has said before that she just doesn't 'get' Supernatural and it REALLY shows. If she runs Supernatural into the ground, at least I'll finally know how the Victoria Mars fans felt.

Date: 2010-07-22 09:20 pm (UTC)I hear you. I do wonder why Kripke decided to do that. He's talked forever about his five-year plan so to have him stretch it out for another season (at least) seems a little weird. Who knows maybe he really needed the money and didn't want to put all those people out of work.
