This is where things get interesting.
Jul. 19th, 2010 02:01 pmMore Legend of the Seeker news: from this post here gives details about how to contact STARZ, since it seems the more people expressing their demands about wanting the show the more probable it'll become a surefire deal. Still not getting my hopes up just yet, but from the sound of things this definitely looks promising especially from the report the poster gave about talking to someone from the network there was so optimism there. *still crossing fingers*
In other news, M. Night Shyamalan continues to be a douchebag. Also, this is the first I've heard of him possibly having been close to directing the Harry Potter movies. I shudder to imagine how that would have turned out...
I still haven't read any spoilers whatsoever and I'd like to keep it that way so please don't tell me anything, but judging from people's reactions to what has been released I think I might take a break from Supernatural for a while? I don't know. I've just not been incredibly enthusiastic about anything with the sixth season, the fact that they even have a sixth season leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. This is what I dreaded would happen, actually. I want to be reassured that this is just an over-exaggeration, that it's not as bad as it seems to be, but I can't help but feel I'm going to be in disappointment and rage with whatever is being planned for it, and mostly because of Sera Gamble but that's another rant altogether. They really should have ended it properly with the Apocalypse, because right now I'm just kind of over the Sam and Dean melodramatics. I'd take an angel mythology spin-off over hearing the same-old Winchester angsty manpain anyday, to be brutally honest with you.
I'm not leaving fandom or anything, this is just how I'm feeling lately. It might change, it might not, only time will tell. I'm still sticking around, especially in the Dean/Castiel and Castiel/Misha Collins parts of fandom because, how can I not? I love you guys, sfm. ♥
This is half the reason why I've been going to other fandoms more recently, to kind of get my mind away from possible trainwreckage and onto new shiny toys. Which, btw,
himhilien? Totally am downloading all of Avatar: The Last Airbender right now. I planned on doing that anyway since I am really liking the series, though since we no longer have OnDemand I can no longer see the random bubble trivia pop-ups. So I has a sad. :(

'If I wanted to have repetitive angst between brothers and their issues I would watch an endless soap opera, which I feel like Supernatural has turned into because they keep repeating the same shit over and over again.'
One of the reasons Dawn O gave for renewing Supernatural was because of all the fans it gained in season 4 and I have to wonder how many of those fans will stick around for the never ending brotherly angst. I'm guessing not many.

That's my guess, as well. Considering many have migrated from the Winchesters to supporting characters because they always keep Sam and Dean in that same standstill with their ~issues~ kind of speaks for itself, even though I know there are those in fandom that want the show to be all about SAMNDEAN (aka no Castiel, no Bobby, no other characters at all). The announcement of a new season really is messing with the show's storytelling, as it's evident with the nonexistent fulfillment of the apocalyptic storyline.

'I don't want Supernatural to follow that same path. D: D:'
Me neither. I'm a little worried that once the new fans leave, Supernatural will just plod along on the strength
of their main fanbase; I've heard Smallville did that for years and the only reason Smallville didn't get a season 11 was because Tom Wellington didn't want to do it anymore. I would hate to see Supernatural have five more seasons of MOTW/brotherly angst episodes.

Tell me about it.

It's also a bad sign when your actors kind of want to leave the show because of how ridiculous the writing has become, like I've heard about some actors on Smallville and other shows that have gone on too long. I know that Jared and Jensen were contractually obligated for six seasons despite Kripke having only planned for five, which could explain having a sixth season. But I don't know. There's been talk about extending the show to more seasons which I'm like, DO NOT WANT. D: I had loved the show, but quality is way better than quantity.

Oh good I thought I was the only one. Every time I see someone say they want Supernatural to go on forever I think, 'Why? They already burned through the big storyarch that the show had been building up to since it started' but than I remember some people just watch for the hot.

I'm kind of hoping Jensen and Jared decide they don't want to do the show after season six, but considering they both just got married they might keep doing for the steady paycheck (not that I would blame them in this economy).

Date: 2010-07-21 05:56 pm (UTC)Some people do, some just don't care even if they claim it's their favorite show. I'm like, so wouldn't you care if they started treating your favorite show like crap? If the writing sucks or if they mistreat the characters and their arcs and the overall plot? Not surprisingly, some just wouldn't care as long as the show continues on. It must be nice to appreciate the hot and not the story, eh?

Yeah, especially for actors anything is better than nothing. Though with them I would think they would have a chance to work on other things, given the kind of exposure they've had with SPN. But you never know.

True. I would love to see Jensen do more voice work. From the clips I've seen he did a great job with Red Hood.

Date: 2010-07-22 07:56 pm (UTC)Oh yes, I've seen those clips too and I really love that kind of opportunity as well. Another thing I'd love for him to pursue is him taking a stab at becoming a director (he is directing an episode this new season, after all). That's an entirely new ballgame but I think it would be fun to see him switch it up.

I think that's the only episode I'm really looking forward to next season. I hope that since it will probably be Dean-light that Cas is in it; I'd love to see him interact with Sam for a change.

I would also like to see more interaction with Sam and Castiel. Their scenes are too few and I think it would give us more about how they view each other now, since they were so estranged in the beginning.
What's interesting is that when it was announced people were fretting over it, which I'm like really? It was rumored last season that Jensen was to direct the 100th episode, but for whatever reason that didn't take. So why are people worried about how Jensen is going to do? I just don't get it, but whatever. I'm interested in seeing his style and what he does, since we know he's expressed his interest in directing.

Date: 2010-07-24 01:34 pm (UTC)Yeah, I just want to see how their relationship would be different from their respective relationships with Dean.
'What's interesting is that when it was announced people were fretting over it, which I'm like really?'
I know. The only thing I'm worried about is who will be writing that episode. I REALLY hope it's not Dabb & Loflin; they've proven to me time and time again that they just don't 'get' ANY of the characters.

Date: 2010-07-24 09:49 pm (UTC)Exactly. I keep getting reminded about what was said during "I Believe The Children Are Our Future", that whole animosity between them and what Castiel said later about Sam being his friend. Not that I wasn't happy he said it, because I do want them to be okay with each other, but we needed something more to show that Castiel was alright with Sam and vice versa. Another thing they should have shown, that building of trust between the two. I mean, we can speculate and fanwank all we want to, but there wasn't much there to really grasp on what happened in between, you know?

I get the feeling that certain writers on the show just don't understand the characters/story at all, and there's episodes that really show it too. I makes me wish that there could be someone from fandom to write the episodes, someone not entirely biased and is neutral but understands the show as a whole and the characters, esp their relationships with other characters.
It's kind of sad seeing more fans understanding the show than the writers do. Which isn't uncommon, unfortunately.

Date: 2010-07-25 03:06 pm (UTC)I know. Cas' 'because Sam is my friend' line kind of came out of nowhere mostly because Cas interacts so much with Dean but so very little with Sam.

I would love that!

Date: 2010-07-25 08:06 pm (UTC)Because if there's anything I like seeing it's how Castiel approaches other humans besides Dean, being so socially awkward and all. ;)

Date: 2010-07-26 02:05 pm (UTC)When I first heard they were going to have a demon named Crowley on the show I had hoped he would have had a least one scene with Cas so they could do the whole Crowley/Aziraphale demon/angel parallel, but sadly they didn't interact at all. Don't get me started on how strange that was; if anyone would have had a problem with the Winchesters working with a demon, you'd think it would be Cas.
'I really wanted more about how Castiel interacts with other people, with Sam and Bobby, I also wanted to see more with him and the Harvelles and how they managed to get him to drink shots with them.'
Me to.
