No spoilers! No spoilers, not allowed!
Jun. 13th, 2009 11:57 amOkay, there seems to be spoilers for the fifth season of Supernatural circulating already. While impressive it came out this soon, this leaves me very apprehensive and distressed since I remain spoilerfree, and fandom sometimes has zero consideration for us folks who want to remain in the dark. So I'll say this only once once: If ANYONE spoils me for anything, whether it's a rumored spoiler or confirmed, whether it's with emoticons or vague descriptions or even your own little reactions to it, I will most certainly cut a fucking bitch. Seriously. This is a no-brainer, people. I want to enjoy my fandom without someone harshing my squee, and being unintentionally (or purposefully as some fans seem to be just so fucking kind at wanting to share such info without thinking) spoiled for something of the new season is one of those downsides. If I want to look at furthering info regarding spoilers I'd do research myself, otherwise coming from someone else is a huge hell to the no.
In addition, the brilliant and wonderful
ibroketuesday created a fantabulous community,
spn_onthewagon, for spoilerphobics who, like me, wanna remain unspoiled.
So, spoilerfree people, where you be at? We must stick together through these rough times, yo.

Date: 2009-06-13 08:22 pm (UTC)I have no idea what the spoiler is and don't wanna know, obviously. I'm just speaking of the overall situation of spoilers, since this happens all the time in fandom, more frequent during hiatuses and spoilers are being leaked left and right. I've only got wind of this like, last night after work so, I'm just making the PSA thing here and now for everyone to see.

Date: 2009-06-13 08:29 pm (UTC)I understand your rage here, it's odd that after all these years people won't learn to put spoilers under the cuts. Good luck on remaining unspoiled! It's hard work ;)

Date: 2009-06-13 10:06 pm (UTC)Such as, I know you are a Castiel fan, so if you are freaking out about an episode in advance and talk about Misha in stills from that episode or say something about religion, I pretty much know what that episode is going to either be about or touch upon and what characters it's going to include, which for me is still spoilery even if I haven't been told exact details or read your post. I've given up the notion that you will have the same idea of what's spoilery as I do, or share the same time frame as to keeping under a cut what's blatantly spoilery as the season's going on. It's too much to expect, and I know we all have our own sort of posting habits and levels of participation in fandom. I want to enjoy my fandom, too, but I can only go "Argh! This is spoilery!" at people so many times before I start to feel like a bitch.
Needless to say, I don't follow the SPN fandom newsletter because I've gotten spoiled by it 894375 times -- it's the spoileringest thing EVER in the world, I don't follow links to interviews or read them, I don't watch con footage, I don't read episode reactions or meta -- I don't even post episode reactions anymore, at least hardly ever. Obviously I am as spoiler free as humanly possible, but that remains true during the whole season and not just during hiatuses.
(Also, this comment sounds like a direct confrontation over how you post. It's not! It's just, I feel like I've gone "Argh! Spoilery!" at you a couple of times before, so I wonder if we have different policies on what "spoilery" is.)

Date: 2009-06-13 10:41 pm (UTC)It's completely understandable, sweetie. I think everyone has different definitions and policies for what they consider something to be spoilery or not. There are certain fandoms I don't mind reading spoilers for, other ones where I stay generally away from anything regarding the plot for the entire season or for an episode or a multi-episode arc or something, but like reading everything else. Other times though, I like avoiding anything altogether. Sometimes I even avoiding interviews with mild spoilers of upcoming episodes (unless someone de-spoilers it, that is), and other times I can't help if it involves a character I love, or even don't love. Or perhaps it's because of that that I avoid them. But even with that I like getting my meta on with it, y'know? It depends on what it is, really.
I don't know, I have a hard time trying to understand my own "what is a spoiler/what isn't" at times. I mean, I don't think watching the previews for the next episode are spoilerish, to me, but to others it is. So, yeah, idk. It's all based on the individual and I think we should all be consider about that (even if in the past I may have been guilty of committing such crimes....)
And yeah, even if someone places something behind a tag their state of mood in the entry or even just emoticons or their tags can give just a hint away, and sometimes can create some anxiety for those who don't want to know anything. So that I can understand.

Date: 2009-06-13 10:44 pm (UTC)This is why we needs to be together, to support each other during such a hiatus. How long until S5 again?!

Date: 2009-06-13 11:28 pm (UTC)Yeah, I just about felt like blowing something up when someone in a comm that shall remain unnamed posted the S5 spoiler AND IT WASN'T UNDER A CUT. I flipped the fuck out. I hate spoilers with all the fiery passion of ten thousand hellbeasts, so yes, I am totally with you on this. If somebody spoils me, you better believe I'll be ready and willing to cut a bitch.

Date: 2009-06-13 11:38 pm (UTC)There will be those kinds of people that will post a spoiler without thinking, whether they're doing it in the heat of the moment from excitement or whatever, but people have to understand that these are considered spoilers for a reason.
