Oy Vey, Black Friday.
Nov. 24th, 2006 03:50 pmToday is basically my day of lounging, since I'm avoiding going out for shopping or otherwise. It was already preplanned due to it being Black Friday, and after watching several news segments this morning of people rushing into stores and malls as they opened, crowding and overflowing the aisles for those special sales, I was glad to not have ventured out today. Of course more power to those who were adventurous and risked going out on this Black Friday; you all have the bravery and guts, for I personally cannot stand the crowds and insanity.
It's time for a fandom meme, taken from
snowfire:
Let's admit it: sometimes fandom is a scary place. Often, actually. All the time. And sometimes don't you just look at fandom's most popular opinions and go "-the fuck?" Now's the time to come clean with your unpopular opinions. It's good for the soul. Here's how it works:
1.) Post this up on your journal.
2.) Your friends will comment with some of your fandoms.
3.) In a new post (or in comments) respond back with one or two of your unpopular opinions for that fandom. (Ex: I love Lana! I don't care about previous seasons of Doctor Who! Teddy Dunn is teh_best actor evar!)
4.) Tag some friends.
I'm not tagging people; anyone is free to do this meme if they choose to. Now come on, my lovely peeps, give me one of my favorite fandoms to give my unpopular opinions about, any at all.

Date: 2006-11-25 03:32 am (UTC)2. On the flipside, I don't necessarily care for Logan Echolls. I thought there were cute moments during season one, especially between the secretive growing relationship between him and Veronica, but in season two things started going downhill for my liking of both the pairing and for Logan in general. To be honest, I just don't see the big deal about him in the first place. I also think that Rob Thomas is making it centered all around them, when the show originally was about the mysteries and Veronica solving those mysteries with her snark and sleuthing.
3. Mac needs more screentime. Also, I'm kind of that person that likes seeing rarepairings, so I tend to like Dick/Mac.
4. Even though I'll always love Veronica Mars, I think Veronica is losing some of her spunk that she had from the first season. I don't know whether it's the writing or whatever, but I'd rather have character development without having Veronica completely discard the cautiousness and sensibility she once had. I know she's trying to be normal as opposed to when we first saw her being ostracized, but I knew there was a change especially during the second season. This is why, out of all the seasons, the first is my most preferred and favorite.

Date: 2006-11-25 02:34 am (UTC)Heroes:
1. Claire is my hero, especially after the episode "Homecoming". I've read people's comments over her character from the beginning and they thought she would have no character growth --- guess what? She has proved them wrong. I like the fact that even after all she's been through, she has Zach who she trusts with her secret and who can console her whenever she's feeling down. I liked that Claire punched Jackie, and that she and Peter finally met face-to-face. So yes, Claire is made up of SO MUCH AWESOME.
2. In the beginning, it was Claire and Niki's storylines that immediately triggered my liking for the show. That has not changed as it has progressed. The mystery over Niki's split personality, called Jessica, continues to intrigue me, along with Micah's mysterious power.
3. The Peter and Simone relationship I do not like, at all.
4. I like the "save the cheerleader, save the world" tagline, no matter how cheesy it sounds. For Heroes, it's just awesome. And it can have several meanings, it's straightforward yet vague.
Criminal Minds:
1. I miss Elle. I know she did a bad thing, but still I do miss having her on the show. They really need to ditch this newbie chick and leave things as they are. I think they can survive with the team they have without adding a new person into the mix.
2. Garcia and Morgan's frequent playful flirting = absolute cuteness.
3. JJ should handle a gun more often, because that scene the other week? That was SO freaking amazing, and she looked so fierce with that glare.
4. Hotchner should smile more. Just saying!

Date: 2006-11-25 02:03 am (UTC)2. Inara is practically another favorite character of mine, and I'm baffled as to why she gets the short end of the stick in fandom (like Book, for example). She's sophisicated, intelligent, carries a lot of weight considering the occupation she has, and while she's on Serenity for her own personal reasons I think she has shown great potential of being useful to Mal and the crew besides being a liason to cliental. Plus, she's ridiculously gorgeous and has an awesome wardrobe, like whoa.
3. Badger is love. The end. :)

Date: 2006-11-25 03:13 am (UTC)1. I liked Dawn's character since the beginning. I never could fathom why others didn't, since her childish and whiny behavior was normal and appropriate for someone her age. She was not only a teenager, but the younger sister of the Slayer who always got praise for saving the world plus finding out she wasn't real at all, just a Key. So you would expect bitterness. I actually identified and emphasized with her on certain levels. Also, her maturing as the seasons went on really showed the growth of character development and I liked seeing that.
2. The fourth and sixth seasons I didn't really favor much. They had good episodes here and there and some vital things happening that I liked, but overall I think it could've done a little better with the overall plotlines (e.g. the Initiative, the depressive-angsty state Buffy was in, etc.)
3. I have this love/hate thing with the Spike/Buffy relationship. It's hard to describe, but they had moments where I thought they were cute but moments where it wasn't so cute. In the end, I'm still a Angel/Buffy person at heart (with some Faith/Buffy on the side, of course).
4. I could've liked Kennedy, if only she didn't get involved with Willow.
Angel:
1. After all the seasons, the one character I'll ever truly miss is Doyle. I liked that in the final season, Cordelia appeared and rewatched the tape with Doyle on it, sort of reliving those Golden Days of Angel Investigations and how they used to be.
2. Connor may have been emo!angsty, but I thought it suited him. I honestly don't know why.
3. I will always love the character of Cordelia, no matter what version she appears in (even though I prefer the earlier seasons to the later ones). Her character growth showed much development after teaming up with Angel, and I only wish she hadn't died because she could've provided lots of things to them. Though in "You're Welcome" it was a touching thing. But I don't like the Angel/Cordelia pairing thing, as I will always be for Xander/Cordelia in canon.
4. Fred I liked, but Illyria rocked hardcore.

Date: 2006-11-25 07:17 am (UTC)Since you are mostly responsible for getting me into the fandom, let's here about your unpopular views on it: House.

Date: 2006-11-25 07:28 pm (UTC)Hmm, unpopular opinions about House. There really isn't a lot to tell the truth, and I'm not sure if they're unpopular, but here it goes:
1. I don't want House to be inside a romantic relationship with anybody. Fandom has this thing of hooking him up with whomever as long as he's with someone who can "change his perspective" or what-have-you. Sure, I like having certain pairings with him (House/Wilson, House/Cuddy for example) but that's only in the subtext of the show and fanon wishing. In canon he may have romantic interests or even be flirtatious, but because he's so flawed that there's no hope that anything including romance with another will ever last long enough for him to be absolutely happy. This is why I strongly oppose the House/Cameron pairing, not only due to my personal feelings about the Cameron, but because from others in fandom I continuously keep hearing that she could change his ways of behavior because of her sense of morality and humility that House doesn't seem to have most of the time.
2. For my own personal hoping and wishing, I like the possibilities of a House and Cuddy relationship, which kind of contradicts what I just stated above. I have this belief that Wilson and Cuddy are the only two people who can seriously understand, not to mention tolerate, House's intentions and his way of thinking. If romance is a have-to for House on the show, for whatever reason, I would like it to be between Cuddy than anyone else.
3. Unlike others I really liked Stacy, and I wished she'd stayed just a while longer. Maybe not for the triangle between House and her husband, but as the stable ground for our favorite snarky doctor.

Date: 2006-11-25 07:40 pm (UTC)1. I'm not a fan of the Wincest. I can understand the whys and reactions from fandom being that they're the only two main characters of the entire show, but I never really got that vibe between Sam and Dean so I don't cross that line. I only see their relationship as a brotherly and sibling love, nothing more.
